Danika’s Journey is an easy reading young adult fiction that is based on solid Christian principals. There is a strong emphasis on salvation, respect, obedience, modesty, purity, and mending tattered relationships. The use of scripture throughout the book makes this book ideal for teaching young ladies how scripture applies to a person’s daily life. I especially enjoyed the spunk of the main character, which gave the book a light hearted approach to some issues, while still portraying a solid moral foundation.
Danika’s Journey focuses on a teenage girl who goes to live with her aunt and uncle after tragedy strikes. The story deals with growing into adulthood in the Plain community. This is especially difficult for Danika, who had grown up on the beach in California.
This is the second book I have read in the Amish Girls Series, and I appreciate the solid applicable Biblical principles displayed in Ms Spredemanns books. I look forward to the remainder of this series.
My special thanks to the author for providing a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions stated within this review are mine, and no further compensation has been made to obtain a positive review.

I recently finished this book and was not quite certain the age group it was written for. Probably not for my specific, older age, or for the 10-12 year old age bracket so am thinking the mid teens.

I mention this because I was intrigued by the subject matter, being very open and honest about some of the trials that exist in today's world.

In this book, v. 1, there are 4 stories which revolve about an individual Amish girl and her personal experience or trial.

In the first story, Joanna's Struggle, Joanna is at a public event and turns up missing. As you read, you read the feelings of those looking for her, Joanna herself and the thoughts and experience of the perpetrator. Listening to the news, we see events like this more often than we would like to hear about. How Joanna deals with the situation is a growing experience and a look at Amish traditional values.
In the next story, Danika Morales loses her parents and goes to live with her mother's Amish brother, not knowing anything about "being Amish". This story develops with the character in the previous story as do the remaining two stories in the book. In this way you can see their character development as they grow older. Danika is totally surprised about the "old-fashioned" life style she is now expected to live, having grown up till age 11 in California and living in a modern life-style. How will she adapt or will she be able to make the adjustment?

The third story is called Chloe's Revelation. Chloe faces some issues that are probably not so uncommon amongst teens. Facing pressures that are not easy to deal with. Chloe finds that forgiveness is the key.

The final story is Susanna's surprise. And the surprise is one that changes her family and could give them great anger yet how will this family deal with the child that was taken from them without their knowledge?

These stories were well written and can give emotional support to those who have felt trials in life, whether it be illness or other trials. Very good reading for the younger aged. And for us older folks, as well!

Danika’s Journey by J.E.B. Spredemann is book 2 in the Amish Girls Series
How would you face a devastating loss that uprooted you to a entire different way of life and at an age where you should be carefree and just beginning to settle into your teen years. Well in this wonderful story you will meet Danika her character will touch your heart, and yes you will shed a tear or two. This is another wonderful addition to the series and once again I loved not only the story but the scripture at the beginning of the chapters. I look forward to the next book which is Chloe’s Revelation. I do highly recommend this book.

it's a kind of average Amish story for much of the time, the only difference being this involves a Hispanic-American girl who is orphaned & taken in by a maternal uncle whose sister, the girl's mother, left the Amish. It seemed a bit rushed to me, but light reading for when I don't feel well enough to focus on anything with much depth.

I like this book. It was an easy short story. The only thing I would have changed was more character development. If you like Amish fiction with a strong Christian message, and a book you can read in a day or less, this is for you.

I liked the Joanna book better, but this one was fine too. Oh, my but the Amish start thinking about marriage and dating at such a young age. But then again, if they get out of school in eight grade...

MY REVIEW Danika Morales has faced a great deal of loss in her young life. Her mother passed away at birth along with the baby brother she delivered. Her father then develops cancer and comes home to tell her that she must go to live with her mother's only brother in Pennsylvania when he passes away. She begs him not to die and leave her and before he even has a chance to explain more to her, he takes his last breath! She finds herself on an airplane to Pennsylvania to live with an aunt and uncle she has only seen once. The ride home in a friend of her uncle's vehicle then ends with them picking up Uncle Phillip's horse and buggy for the final leg of the journey. Danika thinks it is a treat that her uncle has arranged to surprise her but he informs her that it is their main source of transportation.
All this took place in the first pages of the book. It is a short (approx. 100 pages) work of teen fiction so but I did feel the death of her father happening before he even finished telling her that he has arranged for her to live with her uncle to be a bit contrived. Her Uncle Phillip and Aunt Naomi do not sit her down and explain about their Amish lifestyle and the Ordnung. I can not imagine taking any teenager in to live with my family without giving some explanation as to household rules and expectations. Living one day as an Englischer and the next as Amish would be a shock to anyone but particularly to someone who is unfamiliar with the Amish ways. As you can imagine, this will lead to several misunderstandings and quite a bit of trouble. I found the story to be quite interesting in spite of these issues and finished it one afternoon while riding in the car on a short outing. I think this book is one that adults will enjoy reading as well as young teens. Reading them in order is helpful in order to keep the characters in mind but I do believe that they could be read out of sequence as the author does give detailed explanations of characters and their relationships. I appreciate the use of a scripture at the beginning of each chapter which is used in some way in the chapter. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series: Chloe's Revelation.

I received a pdf version of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Series: The 2nd book in “Amish Girls” series. (Book #1, “Joanna’s Struggle”, Here!) {I’ll be reviewing the next three this week! :) }

Spiritual Content- Each Chapter starts with a Scripture, and many Scriptures are said & discussed; Prayers; Talks about God.

Negative Content- Minor cussing including: an unfinished “What the…?”.

Sexual Content- Eli (who is 15) wants to kiss Danika but she does not let him; At Church meeting, all the men give each other a kiss on the lips, it then said “The Bible says to greet one another with a holy kiss and they do it literally”; Great discussions about staying pure.

-Danika Morales, age 13
P.O.V. switches between Danika, Eli, Naomi & Philip. 130 pages

Each chapter in this book begins with a Bible verse that applies to that chapter. Chapters also have titles.
Danika loses both her mother and father and finds herself going to live with her mother's brother. She has no idea that they are Amish until she arrives. But she finds that she likes Amish life even though she does have her "challenges" in abiding by the rules.

This is a Christian book and does share how one accepts Christ as their Savior. I know when I really like a book when I highlight some sentence or paragraph that touches me.

Some of my favorite highlights: "Baptism doesn't make you a Christian; it shows you ARE a Christian." (The capitalization is mine, not the author's.)
"A wise man knows when some things are better left unsaid."

And two sentences that explain extremely well why one cannot gain heaven by "doing good works".
"If we try to make it to Heaven with our own works, that means that we've rejected God's gift."
"If you could work your way to Heaven, then Jesus would have died for no reason at all."

There were several errors in grammar & one instance that could have been a typo -- The word should have been DO instead of TO.

In addition -- rural people do not say that people live "across the street". Streets are for towns. In the country, we say "across the road." A couple of other times when the Amish in the story used words that were Englischer in nature. If the word had been used by a young person in their Rumspringa, it would have been acceptable. But as a "grown-up" I doubted it.

I do like J.E.B Spredermann books. She has a nice fluid writing style.

BTW this version of the book had a sneak peak of Book 3 in the series, "Chloe's Revelation".

Danika's Journey (Amish Girls Series - Book 2)
By: J.E.B. Spredemann

My heart went out for Danika. Young girl but been through so much. Losing her mom at a early age then her father she is forced to go live with family. From being a California girl to moving to the countryside of Pennsylvania. Never knew her family was Amish has a real lesson to learn. Her change in life is like night and day. How is she going to fit in with no electricity for her computer and phone? Most of all her kindle that has her books on it. How will she fit in? I loved the character of Danika. She sure is full of fire. I love though how she finds her faith. These books are great for young girls. I really enjoyed it also. J.E.B. Spredemann is a great writer.
A review copy of the book was provided in exchange for my honest opinion.

Danika’s Journey ( Amish Girls series - Book 2 )
by: J.E.B. Spredemann
As I was reading Danika’s Journey my heart went out to Danika, who has gone through so much loss. The lost of her father puts Danika on a journey of a change. She is forced from her home and friends in California to Amish community in Pennsylvania , and an uncle she does not know. How will Danika adjust to all the changes in her life. I felt tears and laughter as I journeyed with Danika in her journey. This is a story for young teen, but I really enjoyed it very much and I know you will too. The story and the characters are both well written. I loved the scriptures the author added at the start of each chapter. I also liked the inspirational parts through out the story. This is a story of loss, forgiveness, healing and love. I will be reading more by this new author I have found, J.E.B. Spredemann.

I enjoyed this sweet Amish novella and its wonderful characters. This wholesome book clearly reflects strong Biblical values of purity, honesty, respect to elders, obedience, conflict resolution, and more. I enjoyed this as an adult and think it would be equally enjoyable for teen/young adult readers. Danika, the main character, adapted easily to her new life in the Amish community. I know it would be more of a struggle for me to give up all my modern conveniences and technology to live this simpler life style. This is the second book I have read in this Amish Girls Series and look forward to reading more in this series and by this author.

What if your life completely changed? Could you cope with giving up everything you once knew? Danika, the main character, had to do just that. She had to adapt to her new life in the Amish community. I know it would be very hard for me to give up all my modern conveniences and technology to live this kind of a simpler life style. Danika had to change her whole lifestyle ie: the way she talked, acted and dressed. But Danika adapted quite easily.

This book clearly reflects strong Biblical values of purity, honesty, respect to elders, obedience, conflict resolution, salvation and more. We should all be so lucky to have these kinds of values in our lives.

Danika is a young girl who has had a lot of loss in her young life. With the recent passing of her father Danika is sent to live with her Uncle and Aunt who are Amish.

Danika embraces the new found life and knows the hand she has been given has been tough. But with help of her Aunt and Uncle and her new found love for Jesus she is able to move forward with her life.

Danika's Journey is a wonderful story of trust, hope, salvation, and most importantly love. I would recommend this book to teens and adults.

I received a free copy e-copy of this book for my review.

I still can't figure these books out.... tween novels that appear to be almost Amish recruiting propaganda? I bought them when my daughter was curious about Amish life and I have become oddly hooked on their little stories.

A thoughtful look at how a modern teenager might see Amish ways but still have a desire for a close family to help her make sense of the losses in her short life.
