I did not realize Vanished was the second in a series. Based on the reviews of the first book I probably would have never made it to this one had I read it first. Abby has a lot of issues she has to deal with. She walks out one night after feeling like the walls are closing in on her. She thinks the guy who had kidnapped her and kept her for years, raping and torturing her, was back and was after her. She couldn't let him get her.

Eric was...a jerk. Sure he seems like he might love his wife, but he doesn't care about her well being enough to actually try and see it from her point of view and give her what she needs to get better. So apparently he finds her in the water pregnant having escaped her captors. He doesn't get her help for the psychological trauma she went through. Somehow they meet and fall in love right away and get married. They haven't been together that long, and she went through years of horrible abuse and somehow she thinks that will never catch up with her? She will never have an issue with that?

So when Abby disappears Eric is on the other side of the world and he flies right home. We are not shown much of him trying to find her or anything. It just suddenly skips to the day he finds her again. He is understandably upset, but he never once tries to see everything from his wife's point of view. She is terrified and trying to get help so she can be whole once again, and she cannot do that if she goes home with Eric. Eric doesn't make it easy on her, or even try and see if he can see her again or anything. Really he doesn't understand how she could have left so he just says screw her. So she has issues, so she doesn't think she is capable of taking care of her kids right now, so screw her. So she went through something horrific for years not that long ago. So he never got her help dealing with it. So what. Screw her, I am moving on. It is like right away he start to bring a replacement in for Abby because he needs someone to take care of his kids. He seems like a real catch...everyone seems to like him for some reason, but he is just a huge jerk to me. He seems to think his wife should just cook and clean and take care of the kids and be fine even when she isn't. He seems a little domineering and I didn't like him at all. I wasn't sure why they both loved each other. I didn't see the connection.

So then everything gets wrapped up nicely suddenly. It is like Abby is fine enough all of a sudden. It doesn't seem to be that much of an issue then. Everything is good. It was a little too easy. Everything was a little too easy. We never really saw the difficulties with any of these things. We didn't really even see the difficulties Abby faced and how she dealt with them. We just come in at the end of the process where she is good enough to try and move on.

I don't want to give any spoilers, just want to say that after I finished reading 'Saved', I had to start this sequel. Then I had to read it in one sitting, other than to get more Kleenex. This book touches a little more on human trafficking, though it was written very tastefully. Again, I'd recommend these two books to all my friends!

Every emotional book

I read this book in one sitting cause I couldn't put it down. The emotion keeps you at the edge of your seat. The heroine did have me worried for a second but even then I couldn't help but to relate.

I enjoyed this series it showed great depth it a truly horrific thing that happens a lot more then discussed. How this person survived a hell and met someone, thinking all would be right in the world only to realize she was suffering quietly and afraid to speak out. I also thought it was great that each person interacting with her failed to realize the pain and nightmare she continued to live through alone. Her husband was so black and white he never could understand from her point of view. The only thing that pissed me off with the 3 book series was the husband not trying to understand then walking away and immediately taking up with another because he struggled. what did he think she had been going through, why was your struggle any worse then hers. I did like that by then end of the series he realized that not only had she survived by that she was a strong person to survive what she did and to come out on the other side a strong woman for it. He was able to understand what she had gone through what she struggled with, not just him but his friends realized what hell she had suffered and that she was stronger then they even imagined. for all the ups and down I felt this book really told it how it was and the struggles and hardships that are faced with someone trying to battle demons, who's suffering can be hidden and how to find the strength to seek help and remove yourself from the situation to keep others safe until you find your way, how others can't understand those struggles never having lived them.

PTSD - how much does the lay person really know? How visible and recognizable are the signs to the average person?

Two years after Eric rescues Abby from a sex trafficker, everything seems fine. At first. It's when their baby boy is born that Eric notices something seems a bit off. Then he tells Abby that instead of shipping out in 3 months, he's shipping out in a week.

Abby hasn't told Eric about the nightmares. That she doesn't sleep very much when he's not there. That she only feels safe when he's there. She doesn't tell him that she feels isolated and that there's no one she feels she can ask for help - that she's been told that military wives don't tell their husbands that anything is wrong at home so they don't worry about something they can't do anything about thousands of miles away. Not even when Eric's best friend and his wife live right next door.

After Eric deploys, Abby starts having blackouts and thinks she sees her abuser in a busy shopping mall. One night she disappears from her home....

Poor Abby didn't only have PTSD, she had Post Partum Depression thrown in for good measure! Just how much to you want to throw a one poor young woman?! The questions become does she finally get the real help she needs? What about her family? Her marriage? I cried and I cheered - it was worth it!

As a domestic violence survivor, I was able to relate quite well to Abby and found ‘Vanished’ to be gripping, disturbing and very realistic. People associate PTSD with returned soldiers, not realizing that women who have been severely abused over a period of time also suffer from this nightmarish mental illness. Lorhainne Eckhart has captured the symptoms and attempted recovery of Abby’s mind quite well. I flinched each time Abby had seen her ex nearby, with Lorhainne Eckhart’s writing style bringing every chapter to life in such detail. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an illness which is rarely talked about, yet this novel brings it to light and discusses it in detail, showing the inner turmoil and thoughts of both Eric and Abby alternatively. Some post-traumatic battles never end, and I recommend ‘Vanished’ to all readers aged 15 years and over, in the hopes that PTSD and the journey inside the mind of a battered woman can be better understood.

A graphic account of dealing with PTSD.

In the first book of this series, "Saved" , Abby was kidnapped and sold into slavery. This book is the story of her trying to cope with that traumatic experience. She is a military wife and mother of two children. Her husband has been deployed adding more stress to her life which causes it to unravel.

OMG!!! Loved this book. Book #2 in this "Saved" series was absolutely wonderful. It brings to life the very real issues of military families and PTSD (with a twist). I just want to hug Mary Margaret for "saving the day". I could feel the plight of the characters... I cried several times.

Abby and Eric have a son now and Drive is off to sea again. Abby thinks someone is following her and then she vanishes. Can Eric find her or will she be gone for good? You will cry and lean that PDS is not for soldier only. Great summer read.

Traumatic! informative and romantic. A must read.

Eric is an amazing man. I believe he made three mistakes (1)He did not ensure Abby got counselling when they came off the ship. (2) Keeping pertinent information from her doctor. (3) He did not follow his gut when it told him something was wrong after their son was born. Abby has been through a daunting experience that would left her suffering from PTSD and I believe the birth of her son triggered her and made it worse. Abby is not blameless though. She had help and opportunity, but she didn't tell anyone how she was feeling. If she did, she would have gotten the professional help she needed. This story is fiction but there is a lot we can learn from it. I wouldn't judge Eric too harshly for accepting help from another woman to take care of his children. He was drowning after Abby left and was just trying to move forward the best way he can.
I cannot say enough how brilliant a writer Lorhainne Eckhart is, her books just turns you inside out every time.

I started reading this book first instead of Saved so I then went and read saved which you need to do as it explains a lot of what goes on in this story.

Ms. Eckhart takes two delicate subjects of sex trafficking and PTSD and deals with them in a non-confrontational and sympathetic manner. PTSD is very much a military and non-military issue and can affect anyone who has experienced trauma.

I found the storyline to be well written, entertaining with lots of suspense.

The first book, Saved was a love story. This story is darker and not so feel good romance. A great read. The story does end on a bit of a cliff hanger.

This series is a must read & I can’t wait for the next book!

I received an author’s copy and have left an honest review

Maybe spoilers?
Well. This book is a lesson to me to wait until the end of the book to write a review. Multiple points of the story I was absolutely upset. I was thinking about a one star review... You really do have to wade through and wait for the “redemption” part of this book (over 75% of the way through). I’ve been trying to figure out what to include here from my various thoughts on this book. Honestly, I was disappointed in many of the actions of all the characters (except the sweet little darings). This was a difficult book. I don’t think I’d really classify it as a romance. There were tough things and wrong things. I came out of this book all unsettled and angry and down and completely drained. It wasn’t relaxing.

GOOD BOOK, WORTH THE READ

I enjoyed book 2 of this series. It was quite a bit shorter than book 1 but definitely worth the read.
Ms. Eckhart takes a delicate subject (sex trafficing) & deals with this in a non-confrontational & sympathetic manner. How can we help the victims begin to lead a normal life after this hellish ordeal? How can the victim reduce her fear & hatred for the abusers? The hatred the victim feels is as much of a killer as the abuse itself.
I’ll be reading book 3 “Captured” next.

Vanished (Saved #2) was another great read by Lorhainne Eckhart. Abby ha married the man of her dreams. He not only rescued her, but he is the father of her child. Although things should be going perfect for her, she starts to relive her nightmare from when she was taken. One night she disappears and leaves her children alone in the dead of the night. Her husband is on a military shift halfway around the world. The search begins when Eric arrives home. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

A moving and difficult story - struggling to leave the past behind and without proper mental assistance - Abby has a melt down that put everyone and everything at risk. Only her love for her children and the help of her husband is able to keep her sane and bring her back. A very relatable story that most unfortunately might have happened to many women throughout the world. It also helps to bring attention to the need of mental health care for those who suffered traumas. Entertaining!

This was an interesting premise & I thought I was going to enjoy this.

I did like that this attempted to tackle mental illness and also touched on domestic violence issues as well. They are 2 topics that are relevant right now.

Unfortunately, this legitimately upset me. Eric, the husband, is a selfish, rude asshole. Through the character, mental illness is treated as an inconvenience to others and something that Abby should feel sorry for. This simply reinforces the negative stigma that surrounds mental illness right now. This was written in a way that I felt I was supposed to feel sorry for Eric. I didn't. I hated him. Everything from his lack of empathy to the fact that he referred to them as "his children" rather than "their children" or "our children" EVERY time (sans 1 time at the end) makes him even worse. Mary Margaret was just as bad, yet, she's supposed to be seen as a savior of some sort. I love books with unlikeable characters. Characters who are flawed and real make for for some of the most interesting books, but I don't think these characters were meant to be unlikeable & their unlikeability didn't enhance or move along the story.

I thought the narrator captured Abby's voice perfectly.

OMG. This is worse than Saved. Eric becomes even more dense than he was in the first book. And that's saying a lot. If one can write characters that are less than one dimensional, this author has achieved that dubious honor.

The only spoiler I have is -don't waste your time.

To be clear, I rated this story based on the writing and the basic concept of the story. I didn't like the story itself and ended up reading the first bit then the last several chapters.

The writing was excellent. This is the second part of a duo. The first part, Saved, really needs to be read before this one. Most of the characterization came from the first part and really this story didn't need to be written at all except for the fact it has a message to deliver and it is an important one. After traumatic events such as what Abby endured, help is needed to come to terms with it, professional help. It is shows the measure of strength to understand and follow through on that.

I could not read much of this story due to where I am at. I do not do well reading about someones descent and walk through mental anguish. There is more but I will leave you to discover this on your own. I liked the final resolution it was very well portrayed.

If you have read Saved, I would recommend this story based on the above review but not for anyone under 18+ and mature. This is due to the mature nature of the subjects involved.
