Midori Hunter has it all, including a midnight black Aston Martin Vanquish S parked in the driveway of the mini-mansion she shares with her husband, Dr. Ray Hunter. On the outside looking in, one would think Midori is happy, but it's another story when you don't marry for love, but rather for financial gain.
Tired of her cheating husband and fed up with being lonely, Midori takes a liking to Jaydah B., the sassy, sometimes cranky bestselling author who has drama of her own that she hasn't quite figured out how to deal with. They appear to be a match made in heaven, but when the lies that both women have told threaten to be exposed, who decides who stays and who goes? Midori and Jaydah have a lot on the line, and both could lose everything they've worked for. That's why their love affair has to remain their little secret.
Anna J. started writing as a child, creating short stories in her creative writing classes. This later turned into writing poetry in high school. In her early twenties she entered a short story contest, and her first work of fiction "Stories To Excite You: Menage Quad" was published. Always an avid reader, Anna J. saw a void in the industry. The types of books she wanted to read hadn't been written yet. With that in mind, she penned her first book "My Woman His Wife", published in 2004, which quickly became an Essence Magazine best seller. Anna J went on to pen 12 novels. She also participated in 9 short story compilations, and self-published 9 works of fiction. Anna J. Is currently at work on future releases.
This was fine. I knew upon picking it up that it was going to be full of drama and mess, and I was just going to sit back and enjoy it. But I also expected there to be a romance at the centre, and there wasn't. Not really? Lots of steam, sure, but I wasn't really feeling any romance. Also, I mean, when I picked up a book that has infidelity as one of its main plot lines, I wasn't expecting all the characters to be stellar human beings, but god, I didn't like any of them. Everyone, from Midori to Jaydah to Ray, is a hypocrite and a liar and a cheat. The trainwreck-ness of it all was a little entertaining, but after a bit, I just got tired. Especially with Jaydah, after she crossed the line in a major way. But I did enjoy how this was like a time capsule back to 2007; a lot of the songs and people mentioned gave me huge nostalgia. And it was certainly just as sexy as promised.
Listened to the audiobook as read by Mishi LaChapelle, and it was great. This is definitely the kind of book that deserved to be read via audio, and not just because I don't think I'd have finished it physically. I like that the narrator went the extra mile in adding sighs and laughs, etc, and made it feel like a full performance. Again, all in all, this was fine. I was just disappointed by the lack of romance. And tbh, even if there was a romance, I'm not sure how much I'd have liked it, because I didn't care for any of the characters. It was also flippant about things like mental health and abuse in a way that really drove the nail in the coffin for me. Ah, well.
This book was good and I enjoyed the characters! I just felt like the main character Madori was really going in circles about her situation when the answer was there. I was like okay now this is enough. I did enjoy the book but the sex scenes I was like okay enough now to me it was overload. Other than those two things I mentioned the book is good and I do like this author.
THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME READING ONE OF ANNA J BOOKS. AND I INDEED THINK THAT SHE IS A FIRECRACKER!! SEX AND MORE SEX. IF YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR SEXUAL BETWEEN TWO WOMAN THEN YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. THE TWO WOMAN CHARACTERS MIDORI AND JAYDAH ARE VERY SEXY WOMAN. THEY BOTH KNOW WHAT THEY WANT BUT NEED TO HAVE MORE. EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD MEN IN THERE LIVES, I GUESS THOSE MEN WASN'T ENOUGH FOR THEM. YOU CAN'T PUT THE BOOK DOWN FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END. MADE YOU THINK CAN I HAVE MY CAKE AND EAT IT TOO....OH MY BAD!! THAT IS WHAT THESE TWO WOMAN WAS DOING! GOOD JOB ANNA J. CAN'T WAIT TO READ ANOTHER OF YOUR BOOKS. **** DEE JACKSON AAMBC REVIEWER
I really liked this book and will admit that it was better than I thought it would be. The drama, and the multitude of sex scenes are off the hook. This was almost straight erotica. It had some very unexpectant twists and turns and is definitely a page turner. The ending was super abrupt and horrible. I turned the last page in search of another chapter. I was sure I must have gotten a damaged book with the last few chapters missing but nope, that was THE END. I hope there is a part 2 so we can get some closure! We have NO answers.
I have to say I really love this book. There was drama from the start to finish. I just couldn't predict what was going to happen next.
First time reading anything by Anna J and have to now add her to one of my favorite authors.
Jayden was sleeping with Midori that happen to be married. They have been messing with each other for years that lead for them to have great feelings for each other.
Jayden wanted more with Midori but, she tried to make it work with her husband even though when she found out he was cheating to she still wanted to work it out with him.
Jayden decided to have Navaeh as her side chick for when Midori wasn't around. But, Naveah was a crazy women that happens to be so jealous of Midori to the point Naveah causes trouble with Midori and her husband and with Jayden.
Jayden decide to let Midori go and move on she found her a new friend name Monica and she is hoping things works out with her so she can relocate to the ATL with Monica.
How it ends makes me wonder if there will be a point 2 to this because I want to read more about what happens with Jayden, Moncia and Midori and her husband.
Great book Anna J you did your thang here. Keep up the great work.
I first read this book at an age I had no business reading it at. With that being said I thought ill give it a re-read now that I'm grown. Tired of her husband's affairs Midori begins an affair with a woman. Midori spends the majority of the book trying to determine if she wants to continue her affair. Jaydah, the love interest is in love with Midori but doesn’t want to walk away. Both characters spend the entire book giving each other the runaround. There was mild drama thrown in that had me pumped up to see how the story ends. Unfortunately, the book ends leaving readers with more questions than answers.
3.25/5 stars---First off, the audiobook version is chef's kiss! The narrator's voice is sooooooo good and her ability to distinguish between characters was surprisingly great. There was no lack of smut in here which was gladly appreciated but the lack of storyline lowered the rating for me. The two main characters did a LOT of back and forth which was a little unnecessary. But overall, it was a quick and entertaining read.
Almost Erotica! Sexy as hell. Now for the explanation of the 3 star rating. I didn't find the storyline all that compelling. I didn't want the 2 main characters to be together. I knew it was going to be an affair, but Midori wants to have her cake and eat it too, Whereas Jaydah really loved her. I certainly didn't want the husband around. SPOILER ALERT. He lays hands on Midori, and she stays. He rapes her, she stays. HELL NO. Jaydah beats the crap out of her side chick, gets arrested, and walks away. Then the idiot side chick comes back to her. HELL NO! I mean damn. All that Drama! Those women need to get their heads on straight!

I loved this- got very into it actually. I was expecting it to be great because I really like Anna J. a lot and it wasn't dissappointing in any way. Anna J. is fast becoming one of my favorite urban fiction authors. It's a must read for any urban-fiction reader!
This one was just okay for me. There was so much drama with this person sleeping with this person. A book filled with so much drama all for what? The big letdown at the end..Leaving me with plenty of questions and unsatisfied.
The sex was hot as always when it comes to Anna J. she has the right touch to leave you on fire I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it introduced the character Monica from her other titles My woman his wife. Superb well done Ms J.
There is a lot of sex in the book; however, there is love also, even if it is in denial. Midori says she is with Jaydah just for the sex but cannot walk away from her. It is hardly ever "just sex" between two women. Midori, in my opinion, has fallen in love with Jaydah but doesn't necessarily want to leave her cushiony little life with her husband despite being successful on her own. I usually do not listen to/ read books like this; however, I was bored and thought I would give it a go. I felt like the book was a little disjointed. Like the relationship between Jaydah and the model...Jaydah said she was kicking it back with her because she was not satisfied with the revenge that she and Midori gave. But she never did anything to call it quits with her, and the girl was just like, okay. Then Jaydah becomes infatuated with some other woman and is like over Midori just like that. That is not the way love works. On the other end, Midori tries to leave her husband for the hundredth time while still trying to give Jaydah the kitty. Midori was all mad and upset with her husband because he was lying, disloyal, and dishonest..chile that should have been your first last, and middle name. How will you call someone else out on their mess when you are doing the same thing? Maybe if they had been honest, to begin with, everybody could have gotten what they wanted.
I love this book, I’m about half way in. it is well written and well detailed in everyday life situations all the way down to what is on the characters minds. She truly captured the emotion of a each character. I hope my novel will be just as good.
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator/actor was awesome and I loved her. The ending... It's like the author couldn't figure out a good way to end it or just got bored with the characters...
If I could describe this book in one word, it’s : DRAAAAAAMA!! The amount of drama and secrets unfolding and toxicity make this a truly unputdownable book. For every secret that came out, I was crunching my popcorn and listening intently like, “🫢🫢 And then what?!”
This book was fits it’s own trope of “What your man won’t do, another woman will” and I’m just like YAAAASSSSS!!!
The plot basis is a little boring on its own, but it heavily made up for with the secrets, steamy sex scenes, and the twists! I thoroughly enjoyed and it makes me want to read more of the author’s books.
The multiple triangles involved in this story are perplexing to say the least. The voices that the characters hear telling them to run or stop or quite simply, you can do better are completely ignored by each and every single person hearing them. The women in this tale let you know same sex relationships carry the same pitfalls/drama as hetero couples! What were they thinking? Is any relationship work the amount of drama they go through? I'm annoyed with them all, lol but enjoyed the tale the author weaved as she infused her Philly roots all throughout. Her writing style is enjoyable and if any one of these women were able to make a decision I would have given another star :-)
Midori and Jaydah's relationship (for what is was, with Midori being married) was pretty realistic. It wasn't a fairytale. It had ups, downs etc. Jaydah thought and felt things that anyone dealing with someone who was in a relationship, and supposed to be committed to that person would feel. My only problem(s) were the Nevaeh character and Jaydah's continuing to deal with her after Nevaeh wrecked her car and got her arrested. As well as Midori's putting up with all of Rays infidelities.
I listened to this story on Audible as I drove to and from work. It's the first time I listened to this genre on Audible. It made me laugh a lot through all of the drama. I didn't know what the book was about but it was steamier than I thought. Can't listen to this story in the presence of minors. The two main characters kept the story lively but they had to make some hard decisions.
I'm hoping there will be some kind of sequel to the book because I felt the end was unfinished. This however, was a really good book. It kept me intrigued the entire time. I didn't want to put it down.
