Murray pretty much repeats what she has written in her other books addressing Thomson (particularly The Last Spring, written only four years earlier), with some rephrasing.
Her narration of Thomson's life suffers from some factual errors, but it is really her flamboyant and highly subjective characterization of Thomson's psyche and paintings that I found alienating.
