In book three of the Fierce Trilogy, Epic brings this Rubenesque coming-of-age series to a close, tying up the final crises keeping our intrepid but beleaguered reality couple, Jace and Jordi, from their fairytale ending.
Plus-sized singing sensation Jordi Hemphill is on the quest of a lifetime. Set adrift in the previous book, Unstoppable, she must fill new, gaping holes in her family tree. It begins as an escape, but it ends up the ultimate confrontation of the demons that continue to haunt her from her abusive past. Worse, she still struggles through current scandals, splashed on every tabloid for the world to see. As a result, her career stagnates while Jace Riga is on a rocket to super-stardom, tearing the star-crossed lovers even further apart.
Though she has filed for divorce, she is still regrettably tied to Eddie, her weaselly husband in name only. He gleefully proceeds with his plan to woo and ultimately con Jordi's estranged friend, Shelby Goddard, to tap into her family's wealth. He moves to Tennessee to cozy up to her domineering father, Coy, who has just announced his run for the Senate. Together he and Eddie get closer and closer to a seat of power, while Shelby continues to languish in ill health and depression. Jordi debates on whether she can make the sacrifice needed to save her friend, but it could pound the final hammer into her career and end her own dreams of super-stardom for good.
It doesn't help that a fellow musician, Griffin Slade, drives her insecurities even further down the tubes. This unapologetic ladies man feeds into all of Jordi's insecurities as they are thrust together in project after project. His aloof demeanor only underscores all the rest of her esteem issues, all of which threaten to drive her back to her one true comfort: food.
Jace remains stubbornly steadfast, trying to save Jordi from her self-destructive behavior. But this final lesson Jordi has to learn alone. She can no longer depend on Jace, her family, or the world giving her the validation she has been denied for so long. She must dig deep, work hard, and let go - or else she'll lose everything she's fought so hard to achieve.
In the end, only Jordi can save Jordi. This is her journey of self-discovery, and at long last, self-acceptance.
Ginger Voight is a screenwriter and bestselling author with over twenty published titles in fiction and nonfiction. She covers everything from travel to politics in nonfiction, as well as romance, paranormal, and dark, “ripped from the headlines” topics like Dirty Little Secrets.
Ginger discovered her love for writing in sixth grade, courtesy of a Halloween assignment. From then on, writing became a place of solace, reflection, and security. This was never more true than when she found herself homeless in L.A. at the age of nineteen. There, she wrote her first novel, longhand on notebook paper, while living out of her car.
In 1995, after she lost her nine-day-old son, she worked through her grief by writing the story that would eventually become The Fullerton Family Saga.
In 2011, she embarked on a new journey—to publish romance novels starring heroines who look more like the average American woman. These "Rubenesque" romances have developed a following thanks to her bestselling Groupie series. Other titles, such as the highly-rated New Adult series, Fierce, tap into the "reality-TV" preoccupation in American entertainment, which gives her contemporary stories a current, pop culture edge.
Known for writing gut-twisting angst, Ginger isn’t afraid to push the envelope with characters who are perfectly imperfect. Whether rich, poor, sweet, selfish, gay, straight, plus-size or svelte, her characters are beautifully flawed and three-dimensional. They populate her lavish fictional landscapes and teach us more about the real world in which we live simply through their interactions with each other. Ginger’s goal with every book is to give the reader a little bit more than they were expecting, told through stories they'll never forget.
Ginger, you had me in tears at the dedication of this book. I'm making it my new mantra. :) Epic is a great ending to Jordi's story - although I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of these characters.
Epic is the culmination of all Jordi's been through thus far, plus a few additional hurdles fate has put in her path. We watch as Jordi looks for her birth mother, tries to fit all the pieces of herself together, and ultimately grows into the fierce young woman we knew she could be. At times, I got a little irritated with Jordi. She has a tendency to be overly melodramatic. But then I'd remind myself, she's only 19. Also, she tears herself down repeatedly. She can rationalize her thoughts and habits, but can't seem to steer herself away from that destructive behavior. But I know this is something all girls/women do - I do it. Maybe that's why it was painful to read. One aspect where Jordi's maturity really showed was in the way she put others first. Jordi has always tried to take care of and protect those she cares more for. However, she didn't go about it in the most logical ways. In Epic, she matures enough to realize the right way to care for her loved ones.
Jace isn't as present in Epic and although I understand why - Jordi needed to learn she could stand on her own - it still made me sad. He was busy with this new album and preparing for his tour, but he is always there when he is needed most. *sigh* He is always the voice of reason with Jordi and in this way, he's very much a balancing force. And the yin to Jordi's yang.
We are introduced to some new characters in Epic, and I'm hoping for more from them. Guitarist, Griffin Slade, is instrumental in part of Jordi's emotional growth, and I admit to falling for him...just a little bit. ;) There's also Maya and Diego Palermo, who are pieces of Jordi's puzzle. It was a pleasure to see how they filled in holes in Jordi's soul. And there's a new girl-power band, Unapologetic B!tches! I do hope to see more of them.
Of course, Jordi's journey couldn't be complete without closure between herself and Shelby and Eddie. I was so proud of Jordi for accepting responsibility for her actions where Shelby was concerned - and of course, this included Eddie as well. Eddie - y'all know I think he's a narcissistic butthead. Ms. Voight gives him a fitting comeuppance, and I have to say I didn't see that coming. ;)
There is a political bent to Epic but it fit in well with the story and was done tastefully. Shelby's dad, Coy Goddard, is running for a Senate seat. I delighted in the commentary on relevant issues and the spin Ms. Voight put on this element of Jordi's story.
I did feel like things tied up a little too quickly at the end. I would have appreciated being witness to the resolutions Jordi arrived at rather than being told they happened.
I think I liked Jordi's story even more than that in the Groupie trilogy. I think the reason is that I identify and relate to Jordi in a way I didn't with Andy. I also think Jordi grew more over the course of the series. And I reveled in seeing all Jordi's dreams come to fruition.
**I received an eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.**
OMG! Words can't describe this book or series for me. I didn't know anything about this author until I read a recommendation from a blog, and then I stumbled upon a sale and got the books almost free! I dove right in and couldn't put any of the books down. This last book though....Epic was truly an epic completion to a trilogy that took stereotypes and made you second guess how you, yourself, has dealt with stereotypes. It also dared you to look at celebrities in a new light.
Jace, Griffin, Vanni, and the other supporting players in these books refused to let the lying media trying to make them look bad. Jordi, on the other hand, had to battle her inner demons and insecurities to get to her own peaceful acceptance of who she was rather than who the paparazzi decided she should be. I will admit that the pity party for Jordi did annoy me a little bit in this last book. I soooo wanted her to just be done with the insecurities. Although I personally understood that little voice in her head because I have one much like it...I just wanted her to listen to all these people around her. It took a lot for Jordi to finally see the light and just be....Jordi. When it came, you couldn't help but smile.
My only criticism about this book was that it didn't really feel finished...the ending felt rushed (i.e., dealing with Sonny, Mays's will after she passed away, etc). Also, I missed Jordi and Jace's relationship and felt it was more glossed over in this book. While he continued to be her hero, his POV was missing for me especially toward the end of the book. I love epilogues and really feel that this book and series would have benefited from one. I think we needed just a little bit more at the end...but maybe this means we will get more Jace and Jordi in the near future.
I did not fall in love with this book... I really tried too, but I just got tired of the pitty party.. ! I still love you Ginger and your writing is impeccable.. !!
I loved how Jordi used the titles of the series in the last couple of chapters to describe her life and how the 2 years had played out. I loved this story from the beginning to the end as it followed that girl who didn't fit into the box society expects all young girls to fit into. I will continue to raise my girl to love her flaws and love how she is different and how you don't have to fit in their box, you have to think outside the box!
Start with Groupie series and just keeping reading. It won't be hard because from the first chapter you are pulled into another's life and the turbulence of celebrity life. As the reader you will experience all the emotions of each character. Epic!
I’ve been waiting for the conclusion to the Fierce Trilogy as I wanted Jordi to feel complete, be loved, come to terms with her body and eventually have peace. I didn’t have to wait long as Ginger writes like a whippet, almost at the speed of light. The Fierce Trilogy is a spin off from The Groupie /Rockstar/Mogul trilogy and I highly recommend you read that first to get the full benefit and reading experience I did. Throughout the journey you will see the same characters turn up from other books who you will grow to love. It’s not 100% necessary to do so but I certainly would do if I had my time again.
In this huge conclusion Ginger guides us through Jordi’s journey with her Fierce and real family, we get every detail possible. This is what I love about her writing, her attention to detail is second to none. Three pages in and I was already in her world. She has the ability to transport you into her books and I was immediately back living in the world of showbiz, not the glamorous side but the torturous side where the media is hounding and targeting Jordi, following her every move and trying to destroy her because she doesn’t fit in and comply to the media ideal. Jordi is only 19years old. She has the voice of an angel, a heart of gold and the man of her dreams. Yes Jace is a hot ex army veteran who adores her but she still can’t grasp it. Jordi hates her body, feels worthless and can’t understand why Jace is in love with her and her beautiful curves. She’s had help in changing her eating habits but often binges when she’s stressed. Been there worn the t`shirt, I related to that so well. She has little confidence and doesn’t realise that there are people /men out there who actually admire her for who she is, at times I wanted to hug her and beg her to have some confidence and there were times I wanted to kick her up the backside and say get a grip, stop feeling so sorry for yourself and move on, hold your head up high look at what you’ve achieved, be ‘Fierce’ like you are on stage!!
I absolutely loved that we saw characters from Ginger’s other novels, how clever it was to bring her plus sized chat show hosts, famous voluptuous authors and designers altogether as one. It was pure genius how she involved them in the Epic story, what a pleasure to meet Sabrina Parsens and Vance Gale again, these were in a previous novel called San Francisco Serenade. We also meet new characters in this book, Griffin is an enigma, he was a complete mystery and I couldn’t for the life of me figure him out, there’s also a cool new girl rock band who if I’m right the lead singer could easily have her own book.. Here’s hoping. There’s a young man called Diego who at 16 years old has already lived a life that wasn’t at all charmed and perfect. I’d love to hear more from him. I think I know Ginger well enough and I imagine she’s laying the foundations for the future with these characters.
I’m not giving you any spoilers and I’m not relaying the story to you. All I’m going to give you is that Jordi’s past wasn’t as it seemed and this sent her on an emotional mystery tour. This is what the conclusion to the trilogy is based on. Her ex is still up to his old tricks and there’s some surprises in store where he is concerned! Every turn of a page seemed to have another reveal and it really kept me invested. I was happy with the ending, and even though I did get a quiver on and tears in my eyes it was so worth it. Ginger is able to pinpoint every possible emotion a larger lady feels, the self doubt, the worthlessness, the idea you can never compete with ‘normal sized women’ and she is flawless when doing so. In both of her trilogies you get the full packet, you get the HOT Rockstars, HOT Army veterans, HOT Gay Guys, mad stalkers, crazy ex’s, passion, never ending love, ANGST in abundance. If you haven’t read these you have it all out there waiting for you. What ya waiting for?
In The Groupie Trilogy you have the whole Rock star vibe and angst going on, it was a roller coaster ride and it wasn’t pretty at times, my kind of read. 5stars
The Fierce Trilogy has its share of angst too and lots of it, it deals with abuse, both physical and sexual but EPIC is more about accepting . It completed the series beautifully. 4.5 stars
This series was another one of those that have been on my TBR forever. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to take advantage of the promo last weekend and downloaded all three of these books for free. I would have to say that I would’ve paid every single penny for these books because the entire series was phenomenal especially the final book – Epic.
You would think that after all the issues that Jordi had to endure in the first two books that she would immediately get to her HEA but that isn’t so. In this book she had to deal with so much more. Besides her continued battle with her weight and low self-esteem she also had to deal with the falling out between her and her soon to be ex-husband, Eddie. While he was never within close proximity in this story he still managed to affect her brutally even from a distance.
One of the good things that she was able to accomplish with her fame and fortune was the opportunity to find her biological mother. However, that didn’t come without issues of its own. She had been warned by those that cared for her not to be all that trusting but in her heart she knew as soon as she met Maya that she was different. She felt a closeness to this woman who welcomed her into her arms. Although she did receive a warm welcome from her mother, it was not easy to convince her brother Diego that her intentions were honorable.
At first this was what Diego thought that her intentions were. He thought that she was using them as a ploy to improve her tarnished reputation and since she refused to comment on all the bad press that she was receiving the press crucifies her again saying she was hooking up with an under aged boy. They keep saying that “any press was good press” but in Jordi’s situation when every single move she made was viciously dissecting it further altered her self-confidence.
“You’re the brightest light I’ve ever seen. You should shine for the whole world to see.”
As all the stressors keep piling up it starts affecting her work as well. No matter what happened though she always had the right people around her encouraging her along the way. Some of her friendships did suffer throughout her journey but she also managed to gain so many more. One of which is Griffin. He was difficult to accept in the beginning but by the end of the book I couldn’t get enough of this man and I’m honestly hoping that the author writes another spin-off that features him.
He wasn’t the only one that stood out for me. Of course there was the characters of the Groupie Series such as Graham and Vanni. I found it heartwarming how they both were able to influence someone like Jordi and the rest of the contestants of Fierce.
In Vanni’s case, we witness how he really changed from how we first encountered him. Obviously Andy had a major hand in that transformation and it was great seeing that their relationship remained strong throughout the years.
There were so many elements to enjoyed about this book. I thought the writing was superb. I loved the characters and the plot. I appreciated that fact that it not only dealt with issues of the heart but it also addressed real life problems such as overcoming abuse and low self-esteem.
I loved how driven our heroine was. It seemed that no matter what came her way she was able to face things head-on. For me, the entire series was inspirational. It drove into my psyche that as long as you had the right people around you and were motivated enough that you could conquer anything.
OMG!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THESE BOOKS (Fierce, Unstoppable, and Epic) from the dedication to the final chapter. Gignger Voight did an amazing job writing such a human story of selfdicovery and selfsteem. It's impossible not to love every character, especially Jordi, Jace, and Shelby.
To be completely honest, when I started to read Fierce I wasn't really into the book, but after chapter one I was completely hooked by the amazing, touching, and beautiful story, that I couldn't stop reading. The story stole my heart since the very first word.
One can truly feel related to Jordi's story in so many levels. Her journey towards a happy life was hard, with so many ups and downs since she had to learn to accept herself and to overcome difficult situations ar such young age.
I felt so identified to the story because above all I believe in teh message the author wanted to give which is that dreams come true if you truly love, and believe in yourself.
The story touched me so hard because as Jordi I also turned to food to find relief when the path in my life became hard and rough. I didn't struggle with rape or not being loved by my mother, but as Jordi, I had my own demons to fight.
These books teach us that we are never alone, that we are capable of overcoming any challenge, that if we truly believe in ourselves then we can dream big because we can achieve more than that; we can't love or be loved if we don't love ourselves first because then we are never truly happy, we always feel empty and we keep believing the negative things others think about us.
Each character is perfectly written according to their role in the book. You love the ones that you are suposed to love and hate the ones that should be hated. But the one, that stole my heart and made me wish for someone like him was Jace. He always saw the truly beauty in Jordi, both physically and emotionally. He was always supportive and caring, and never doubted of his love for Jordi, even when she kept pushing him away.
So, I want to end this, with one of my favorite quotes of this trilogy: "why fit in, when you were born to stand out?". Never be afraid to be different because that's what makes us unique.
PS. If there are any grammar, spelling or punctuation mistakes, please forgive me, English is my L2.
OMG! Simple words can't describe this book or series. I didn't know anything about this author until I read a recommendation from a blog, and I'm now really digging her work.
Epic was truly an epic completion to a trilogy that smashed stereotypes and dared you to look at celebrities in a new light. While I've really never bothered with gossip rags or TV sites that relentlessly pursue performers while reporting utter drivel and lies, there is a lucrative industry out there that vilifies those who are famous.
Jace, Griffin, Vanni, and the other supporting players refused to be held hostage by a lying media hell-bent on twisting and turning to make them look bad. Jordi, on the other hand, had to battle her inner demons and insecurities to get to her own peaceful acceptance of who she was rather than who the paparazzi decided she should be.
My only criticism about this book was that it didn't really feel finished. Sonny had come out saying that he would have control of Diego due to Maya's will. This wasn't discussed after Maya passed. Also, much of Jordi and Jace's relationship was glossed over in this book. While he continued to be her hero, during her final showdown with Sonny and all that transpired, his POV was not to be found. I love epilogues and really feel that this book and series would have benefitted from one. As a reader, I love that little extra that lets me hang onto the characters I've come to love a little longer and get a glimpse how their lives turned out.
While I enjoyed Jordi's journey into stardom and the challenges she faced, I couldn't give this 5 stars. Truthfully, I am leaning more toward 3 stars and here's my reason, editing. I read a great deal and I can overlook a grammar, spelling or other error here and there, but this series has quite a few of them. After a while they begin to take something away from the overall experience.
Anyway - the story is worth reading. I love an underdog tale and Jordi is a good heroine. By the end of book 3, Jordi has overcome her hangups about her weight and she is on the road to getting more healthy. Jordi struggles with other demons, but thanks to the love and support from her friends and family, she is healing. The hero, Jace, is a terrific character that you cannot help but fall in love with. An American hero who lost a leg during his tour in the armed services, he goes on to discover his talents as a singer and wins an American Idol-like show called Fierce, where he and Jordi first meet. Other terrific characters are Griffin - a fellow musical artist, Jordi's younger brother Diego, Vanni - the rock star/Fierce judge. Even Jordi's first love, Eddie Nix is an interesting character that you love to hate.
Check this series out - it's pretty good - but be prepared to encounter a few typos/missed words, etc.
In this the third and final book in the series, Ginger Voight leaves no question unanswered. Jordi has been through hell and back in this series and as a reader my heartstrings have been yanked around on an emotional rollercoaster. In this book, after locating her birth mother Maya, Jordi wants to help her and her half brother out of where they are living. The one complication is Sonny, Maya's boyfriend. Maya is extremely ill and this gives Jordi one more thing on a very full plate to deal with. Also she finally decides it's time to help Shelby after she hears that her ex husband Eddie has gotten his claws in firmly with her and her family. So she shows Shelby the tape of how Eddie plans to use her......this leads to another near fatal heart attack. In the end though, all loose ends are tied up and Jordi gets her happily ever after.
Very fitting conclusion to a great series! What I like about Ginger Voight, besides her excellent story-telling skills, is that she manages to keep the same tone all the way through the books and does not drag the tale out for longer than necessary. If you've read any of her other books, you will enjoy it as well. Now, have to admit that there were moments when I wanted to slap Jordi silly for her seemingly weak attitude and I did wonder, a lot, why Jace didn't buy a gun and put some characters out of my misery. However, all in all, well worth my money, and yours. It was.....epic.
This final book in the trilogy was my least favorite. There were several under developed subplots that were sacrificed for the overall plot. This was at the detriment of the main plot. One such subplot was Jordi's relationship with Vanni. Through out the series Jordi talked about how special the relationship was between them, but it was not conveyed through out the story.
The relationship remained strong between Jace and Jordi. This was a great relationship for both of them. They are a positive couple who support each other. They remind me of my husband and I.
4 STARS This was a great conclusion to the Fierce Trilogy. It seems like it took forever, but Jordi has learned life lessons the hard way. She has fed the media machine with scandal, burned bridges that will never be crossed again, and consumed herself with self-loathing defense mechanisms all before her 20th birthday. Through all of these things she has found true friends, family, and a true home. What a crazy journey.
I absolutely loved this whole series. It was great to see books written a out a plus size girl because not all of us are toothpick skinny. Jordi showed all of her emotions right or wrong.Absolutely hated Eddie, probably because I've had someone like him in my life too. Someone who only wants you when it benefits them. Have is a REAL man who showed his love unconditionally. Absolutely a must read!!
This has been one of the most heart warming, emotional, human & ensuring stories I have ever read. I think every person should read these 3 books & learn from them. I have added these 3 books to my all time favourites. I take my hat off to Ginger, this story is for every girl out there, to love the skin your in & embrace it. I just finished the last book & I miss it soo much already. I can't recommend this series enough, get it now.
How did Ginger Voight capture how the majority of us feel about our own worth? Our own bodies? our own sexuality? This story was amazing. A great story of love, passion and acceptance. Jordi is a wonderful heroine, flaws and all. Read this book and the first two in the series in order. you will not regret it!!
After reading all 3 books I am impressed with how much Jordi grew. Having struggled with my weight all my life I was able to relate to her inner demons. However there were multiple moments when I wanted to strangle her for not believing in her self and those around her. The series was very well written and I enjoyed every minute of it!
I would give this book more than 5 stars if I was able. This series of books was truly wonderful in that all of the characters were flawed and imperfect by society's standards and it just made me love them more. If you haven't experienced Ginger Voight then these books are a definite must read!!!!
This book let the trilogy down for me.I was expecting more of Eddie and his manipulation but it went down another path which was Jordi meeting her real mother/brother.She also annoyed me as she was so depressing and didn't appreciate what she had.I don't know why Jace put up with her.I was really bored with the story and skimmed the last few chapters.
Epic is the perfect conclusion to the Fierce series! Jordi and Jace continue to be bombarded by the paparazzi as the most intimate moments of their personal life is put on display.
Jordi finally faces her past so she can face her future head on but at what cost? This 3rd book of the Fierce was a riveting finale and deserved 5 epic stars!!
another amazing trilogy by ginger voight. the fierce trilogy left me so emotionally raw im going to need a book break. I felt everyone of jordies insecurities with her weight because im living through that now. thank you mrs voight for bringing Andy and Jordie into our lives.
Excellent, so many twists in the storyline but very good series. Happy with the outcome but would like to see one more book with what the future held/holds for Diego, Jordi and Jace. As well as the others.
A fantastic conclusion to the "Fierce series!"Shows no matter who you are and what your going through.....hold your head high and believe in yourself! Your greatest critic is mostly yourself. Live your life and be "FIERCE!"
The characters in this story flowed so well, developed just like they should have and the story was great. I couldn't put it down nor could I get enough. I didn't want the book to end but I couldn't stop reading.
At last he got what he had coming, I'm still thinking a hit man would have been better lol, we had tears by the end, and what an ending really enjoyed this series, Will have to look into Ginger's other book's.
So, I did read all three books before I am writing this, I must say you need to read all three books. It is a wonderful story of a girl turning into a women and becoming her own person. ABSOLUTELY wonderful story and it is a must read.
Really enjoyed this story. Wanted at times to shake Jordi and kill Eddie but thats the reason we read books isnt it. So much angst and betrayal but low self esteem and worrying what people think and see when they look at you is all part of that trap.
