Harry Frazer used to be a diver. Now he works as a lawyer, but he finds the work too smooth and too cold. He is sailing off the West Coast of Scotland, where the sea is not smooth, and nor is the land, or the people he meets. Particularly the people in the ship that looms out of the dark in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. There is a collision and a rescue. And Harry finds that by saving someone from drowning he has wrecked the machinery of a big international comspiracy - and put himself and the people he loves in deadly danger.
