"One of the keys to being happy while homeschooling is to do it in a way that is natural for you - if you are a book girl, then pack your day full of literature, if you're crafty, then get out the glue sticks and glitter, and if your brain works better when it's sparkly... then, by golly, stick a tiara on your head and go teach something!"
Do you wish that you had the chance to sit down with a seasoned homeschooling veteran over a cup of tea and ask every question that comes to mind? Mother of seven and twelve year homeschooling veteran Rebecca Frech is the common-sense voice of experience and reassurance that you’ve been hoping to find.
Teaching in Your Tiara is a soup-to-nuts homeschooling book that walks you through the first years – deciding that home education is right for your family, choosing the right curriculum, understanding learning styles, not raising socially awkward kids, maintaining your own identity, and more.
Whether you’re the parent who’s already committed to homeschooling or you’re just dipping your toe into the pool of consideration, this book is for you! Rebecca’s logic, honesty, and humor will leave you both amused and well-informed about the realities of homeschooling and what it could mean for your family.
This book would be great for someone just starting out. I just must have misunderstood the description on Amazon, because I was under the impression that the book was more about tailoring your schooling experience to your family's personalities than a step-by-step-how-to-get-started, which is what it was. The author is fun and creative and original and so I'd totally recommend this to someone just starting out; it just wasn't what I thought it was.
A must read for anyone thinking about or considering homeschooling! Even if you've been homeschooling for a couple years, you'll get something out of this book. Rebecca is hilarious too, which makes the book even better.
I will admit the author is a very dear friend who I have known for years and I adore. She is also a very good writer and while I don't homeschool, I truly enjoyed this book. It has been a wonderful resource for other friends and I am far more understanding of the work and study involved in the process now. I would absolutely recommend this book for anyone who is interested in considering homeschooling for your child or children. Rebecca does a fantastic job breaking the whole schooling feast into manageable bites that are very easy to follow and understand.
This was a very well written book. It was honest and frank and for me as a new homeschooling mom a covered everything that I needed it too. It made me ask myself a lot of questions. It made me even more confident in my decision to homeschool. I have never opened a book and felt such a need to take notes and I took so many notes in this book. I can’t wait to discuss this at my homeschool book club.
This book is for the homeschool curious person who needs some encouragement.
It’s a “Q&A” style book which means I skimmed it/read what I wanted. But as someone who feels comfortable homeschooling and confident in what I am doing, I unfortunately didn’t glean anything. It is well written for the audience.
This book is excellent. It’s a great place to start for newer homeschoolers, and so affirming for those of us that have been at it a few years! I need a tiara. :)
This is an excellent book for those thinking of homeschooling or have been doing it for a short time. As a veteran homeschooler, I enjoyed her writing style and sense of humor and the fact that I homeschool very much like she does - she's come to many of the same conclusions I have. You don't have to wear a denim jumper - I actually didn't know the reason for that stereotype! You don't have to be perfect or totally organized. And PENCILS, yes! get 3x as many as you think you need! They totally disappear! The biggest drawback is that it should be more clear that this is for newer homeschoolers, but of course veterans can just read and nod the whole time.
This book was exactly what I was searching for. It answered my "How in the world am I actually going to do this!?!" question and made me laugh at the same time. It felt like I was sitting down with a good friend over coffee :)
This was an incredibly helpful and great read for anyone considering homeschooling! It's full off resources and practical advice on how to homeschool in a way that best suits individual families. I highly highly recommend it; I know I'll be referring back to it often!
Fun, easy to read, Catholic slanted guide in getting started on you homeschooling journey. I wish I'd had this book when I was starting out. If you're on the fence about homeschooling, this thorough guide will definitely help you decide!
a Good intro to homeschool. I liked that she was realistic about this method of education not being for everyone. she also touched on questions related to divorce and disagreement from grandparents that I've not seen addressed elsewhere.
A super easy to read, straightforward book that touches on many topics and concerns when deciding to homeschool. This book reads more like a conversation with a seasoned homeschooling mom rather than some preachy, academic type of book.
Great resources, finally a book about homeschooling that gives you a good look at many approaches to take. Will definitely be referencing this in the future.
This has been on my tbr for so long that now I've been homeschooling for near 3 years LOL. This is a book about why to homeschool and how to get started. Whoops.
