Being Human: Essays on Thoughtmares, Bouncing Back, and Your True Nature

Rate this book
The basic, immutable nature of all human beings is well-being, clarity, and peace of mind. Those are your default state—what you already are in this very moment. Anytime your experience of life doesn’t reflect clarity or peace of mind—anytime you’re suffering; experiencing confusion, pain, fear, or loss; or questioning yourself or your abilities—you are deep in thought. Personal, habitual thinking is the only thing that ever holds you back from the peaceful experience of who you really are. Through a series of short but powerful essays and real-life client conversations, Being Human sets you up for your own personal insights and realizations about your true nature and how easy life can be. This is not a self-help book because you don’t need self-help. You are already well. The most you could ever “need” is to be reminded that you already have within you everything you’re looking for and to understand the principles that lead you to connect with it. Being Human is that reminder.

Loved the idea that if we don't like our thoughts, just wait and they will be replaced.

Thought the author put too much stock in observing her own young children and delighting in how perfect they were. Shoulder shrug emoji.

I can't say enough to recommend this book to everyone.

So, Everyone, please read this book.

What Amy does so beautifully is tell stories. And as you read the stories she's written you begin to see yourself in them. You begin to shift your thinking as you recognize that's all it is in your own head to begin with: too much thinking.

I love how Amy teaches the Three Principles theories without teaching them at all. She chronicles real life in the pages of her book and shows how being human is completely normal, but the best part of being human is KNOWING:

"You are well, period. Everyone on earth. Essentially. Always. There are no exceptions, caveats, conditions, or rules to remember and there is absolutely nothing you have to do -- nothing you even can do -- to make it more or less true."

This beautiful truth resonates from every page and from every story and from every anecdote. By the time you complete your storied journey of "Being Human," you will be breathing easier, remembering your own innate wellness and that all you have to do to access it is nothing.

Thank you, Amy.
