The Irish End Game #1-3

Rate this book
It's the first three books in the Irish End Game series that takes an average American family and puts them in the middle of a post-apocalyptic melt-down in a rural setting in Ireland. Free Falling is Book 1 and shows the family "when the bomb drops" and how they're able to learn what they need to do to survive. Book 2, Going Gone, continues their story when Sarah is brutally taken from the home she has created in Ireland and risks life, limb and much much more to return to her family. Book 3, Heading Home, tells the story of rescue finally coming--and how that turns into the biggest upheaval of all.
The Irish End Game is a thrilling page-turner that will have you stocking your pantry for the apocalypse and wondering how well you really know your neighbors.

*3.5 THE IRISH END GAMES by Susan Lewis-Kieran receives above average stars! The use of foreshadowing and cliff hangers propel the suspense. The character development is multidimensional, dynamic, and thorough. The plot is well paced and the storylines are unique: that of a post apocalyptic world where survival is predicated on cunning intelligence, strength of character, and the indomitable human spirit. A very compelling, suspenseful read! I devoured all of them!

I liked this (these) books so much I actually finished them. Post-Apocalyptic (sort of) story which also serves as a reminder of the days before computers took over our lives. It’s almost impossible to avoid living in this world but I sure can long for a simpler time. So glad my kids got to enjoy some of that too.

Just finished Rising Tides, could not put it down. Suspenseful, intriguing and just as well written as the other 4 books in this series. The characters, especially mike and Sarah, draw the reader into their adventures, can't help but care about them and hope they succeed. Lewis' ability to weave the details of the story makes you "see" the scene as you read. My only disappointment is that I have to wait until summer for book 6. Thank you, Susan for sharing your amazing imagination with us!

I honestly cannot stop reading this series, it has me on the edge of my seat at all times. I have just finished book #3 and am beginning the 4th book (Blind Sided). The author has a very unique talent in flowing the books together very nicely, making each one as enjoyable as the last. There is never a dull moment!

I loved this series. I found the first book through bookbub and downloaded it for free on my Kindle. I couldn't put it down and went back and purchased the other two in the series. Great fun read.

I sort of hated these books because I am not one for sheer murder and bullying. Book one was just readable but book two I could not read about the slave trade. Book three I hurried through just so I could get to a happier conclusion but again so much back stabbing and misery.

Volumes 1-3 of 8, this was a free ebook download. A small American family of three vacations in Ireland. On the second day of their visit an unnamed terrorist organization explodes a large dirty bomb nearby which destroys all electronics. Electricity, cars, cell phones, all come to a halt. Law and order breaks down and the family struggles against nature and roving bands of thugs for survival. They run across good people and bad people.

Well written and exciting cliff hangers despite a few cliche-type last second rescues, unique personalities and all the action that action lovers enjoy, there is even a little romance thrown in.

Evil, sadistic, vicious blood thirsty bad guys do get their just rewards but not without the good guys suffering tragic and unexpected losses themselves, even some the reader can get really attached to. But that just makes the story lines more interesting and compelling.

Irish End Games - Interesting Read

An unusual premise to a post apocalyptic world in an unordinary setting pulled me into this tale. While on vacation in Ireland, an American family is stranded when a nuclear bomb renders all modern devices useless and throws them back into a 19th century way of living. No cars, no electronics, no communication forces them to live by their wits and their strength.
Things get dangerous real fast with no laws and crooks on the loose. The author has a skill to build the tension slowly with no apparent escape from danger but the resolution is swift and decisive.
Lots of surprises in the first three books makes me inclined to continue the series which has grown to nine books. Check it out if you enjoy adventure and surprising excitement.

The storyline was enjoyable . One major gaf for me was the lack of story line taking Sarah from a conversation when her mother informs her there is a brief window of time to leave the USA and return to Ireland. Chapter ends next chapter begins with Sarah driving up to the Irish village in a hugh military truck. Large

The storyline was enjoyable. One major gaff as far as I was concerned was the leap from Sarah's mom telling her there was a small window of opportunity for her to leave the USA and go to Ireland. New chapter Sarah drives too Irish village. How did she get there? Appears a great story missed.

It’s a toss-up between 3 or 4 stars. The writing is good and the plot is fresh. The biggest flaw is the timeline. It contradicts itself over and over and over. My guess is the three books were written over a span of time and the author got confused. It wouldn’t be hard to catch with a good proofreader. I don’t plan to read further in the series because the original plot arc is more than complete. There were some improbable occurrences and situations and I think there will be more as the series is extended beyond its natural life.

I am usually a fan of this author -but this series did not make the cut for me-
The first book sets the scene for what's to come -It was original in concept -I was caught up at first in the lives of the family -but the story veered off into some weird dystopian world full of bizarre folk - like something out of a bad western/ with gypsies/ gunmen -nastiness, violence, that left me cold. I gave it up -and quit reading half way through book 2-

This is the best dystopian series I have read to date this year.
Books 1 and 2 were excellent - - the 3rd of the three books however lets it down a little as it is a bit less believable than the others.

I can't say much more without creating a spoiler, but a hint.

I am sure if one of the western world countries were to recover faster than the others they would help restore, in some way, the worst affected countries.

Other than that - an excellent read that had me continually turning the page.

Definitely 100% recommended for anyone interested in the Dystopian space, as it is a totally different scenario, from the eternal "chasing over the USA to reach a family member" type of EMP plot line (which frankly is getting a bit boring for all you budding dystopian authors!).

Interesting story about an E.M.P. that hit the UK while Sarah and David were on vacation in Ireland with their son John. I enjoy these types of stories and wonder how my family would fare in a situation like this.

Characters were great and book 3 was my favorite partly because I read it instead of listening to it. The author can write good stories but unfortunately didn’t narrate them well so the audiobooks leave something to be desired.

Got these books for free through Amazon, expecting yet another mediocre read - and to my astonishment, they are really, really good. The writing is good, story is enthralling, and I don't even think there's been a typo. It looks there are 11 books in the series so far, and I'm seriously considering buying at some of them.

I kind of fell into the first book by accident (a happy one). I was captivated from the first page and quickly devoured that and the following 2 books. Shortly to start on the 4th book in the series. Pacy, well developed characters, plot twists by the bucket load. Extremely well written and an outstandingly off grid setting. Absolutely loved all 3 books.

Could not finish it.

The "heroine" is the most selfish, spoiled, constantly annoying character. It got to where I was hoping she be would be taken out just so a more likeable character would continue the story. Could not start the second book as the preview indicated it was more of the same. Thumbs down big time.

Susan Kiernan-Lewis's The Irish End Games, Books 1–3 is a compelling post-apocalyptic series that immerses readers in a world where a devastating event forces a family to adapt to a drastically altered reality. Set in rural Ireland, the trilogy begins with Free Falling, continues with Going Gone, and concludes with Heading Home. It was a great read!!

A little too mushy for my tastes, but a good story nonetheless

The premise of this story takes place in a land of hardy, salt-of-the-earth people known to be survivors no matter what.

It definitely held my interest...except for the mushy romance parts.

Good reading. Highly recommended.

When the unthinkable happens, and an American couple are stranded overseas after a devastating attack, they must learn how to survive in an environment really foreign to them. The story of survival takes many twists and turns in this 3 volume set. A good read indeed.

Books 1-3 got me interested, but I question whether it could ever actually happen..the UK and Ireland separated from the rest of the world and left to their own devices? Hmmm...probably not. But it does make good escapist reading.

Well conceived and written tale of romance and intrigue involving an exceptional cast of characters who find themselves having to live without modern conveniences while they try to survive and rebuild.

Book 1 started so well

First book was good but by the third book the dystopian world story turned into a love story. There are many inaccuracies in the books that made it hard to read for someone who is on the Eastern side of The Atlantic

Excellent story

This story was hard to put down. It was so interesting seeing how the world could change when modern conveniences are totally gone.
