For a book written in the peak Satanic Panic years, aimed at an evangelical Moral Majority audience, and taking seriously the presupposition that "Satan" is a real being with evil intent and influence over the world, it's (1) actually somewhat lighthearted in its rhetoric, and (2) remarkably even-keeled when it comes to dealing with "others," e.g. New Age believers or Muslims. (The Islamic world is mentioned as a big place for "strongholds" of satanic influence, but increased Muslim immigration *isn't* really a problem because that's just more opportunity to be good Christian neighbors and show them the true religion... if only more American Christians thought that way...!)

It also gave me more perspective on how some Christians in the United States can say that Christians are "oppressed" (even an oppressed "minority") in the United States - it becomes much easier when one accepts as true a conspiracy theory of supernatural demonic powers subtly influencing things to be un-Christian. But, as the author cautions, don't become paranoid!

I can't actually recommend this book to anyone because it's such a strange worldview and very inside-baseball: it's meant for fellow Christians (and a specific subgroup of them, i.e. ones who aren't taken in by "liberal" theologies and historical-critical readings of the Bible), not for the great unwashed masses. But I'm giving it 1.5 stars rounded up because it was certainly the nicest possible way to go about conducting "spiritual warfare" against Satanic conspiracies that I could have imagined.
