Evil has descended on the students of Edgewood University in the form of a shadowy killer. Pieces of the victims are missing. A masterpiece is forming. Detective John Whitlock of the New Haven Police Department, struggling to gather the hideous pieces of this morbid puzzle, will confront a madman and his designs that no mortal eyes should ever behold. Fragments!
Brian G Berry is new to the world of writing. He writes everything from 1980s inspired horror, SCIFI/Action-horror, to the strange. His biggest influences are the writers of the weird including Lovecraft, Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, to the pulp horror authors of the golden age 70s/80s- and a splattering of others. Author of The Pail, A Bloody Christmas, Splatter Fiend Series, Slasherback Series, Campfire Tales Beneath a Pallid Moon, Accursed Ground, Blood Lanes, The Night Mutilator, Thanksgiving Day Massacre, and his newest: SNOW SHARK.
A mysterious killer starts killing young women on Edgewood Campus. Is there a connection between them? What about that arts student whose sculpture was destroyed by several female fellow students as it was very provocative in a sexual way? What about the janitor? Brian Berry comes up with every slasher cliche imaginable but the blend is excellent. Strong, eerie and violent. His main character is a true boogey man and the hardboiled cop very remarkable. Old school horror at its best. Highly recommended!
Fragments is a homage to ‘80s slasher films like Pieces! 🔪💀 That film in particular was in mind when Brian G. Berry wrote this horror novella. This is around 150 pages of fast-paced, gory action! A solid 4 star slasher here. I had to correct a few typos in the KU ebook copy I was reading (by submitting the errors to Amazon!) but they didn’t pull me out of the story too much. It definitely has some of the most viscerally gory scenes that will play out in your mind as you read - as much you might not want to visualise them 😅
The students of Edgewood University are being prayed upon by two different evil predators. One has a taste for women’s bodies, the other has a taste for blood and revenge. One by one, a friendship group are turning up dead, murdered in increasingly more sick and twisted ways. Who is this mysterious killer and who will end up coming out of this alive as the police are closing in on him?
Brian Berrys love letter to slasher movies of the 80s mainly the amazing "Pieces" from 1982 a film I adore.
I love Brian's books from his downright ridiculous "Cow Shark" to his action filled books like "Death Commando" and his brilliantly fun novelizations of SRS low budget horror movies.
Fragments maybe for me be the best book he has written that I have read. It's the most gruesome (that's definitely saying something) and has the largest body count for sure.
It's that 80s slasher movie vibe down to perfection. From the grizzled, chain smoking, hard drinking Detective who will stop at nothing to solve the case, the unknown killer stalking students at a college campus and the sex, nudity and obligatory shower scenes in the forefront. It's what you watch slasher movies for and this is what this novel delivers.
Brian has outdone himself in terms of the descriptive violence, gore and mayhem in this one. The body's keep dropping and the blood does not stop. I've always said David Irons is the King when it comes to writing slasher novels but Fragments may just be as good as anything David has written. If you are even remotely a fan of 80s horror or slasher movies this is a must read.
In 1981, at Edgewood University, tragedy strikes in the form of a serial killer, the victims, all female students. This is not just any regular killing either, for the bodies are severely mutilated - entrails pulled out, skinned, decapitated... Detective John Whitlock thinks that, due to the deeply gruesome manner of kills, that this might be personal, perhaps fueled by jealousy or revenge, but he has no real leads or clues. Meanwhile, bodies pile up around campus, the bodies missing pieces. "The pieces... yeah, removed with intent. But what purpose? A collector?" One night, 19 year old Molly shows up to her friend's house, and ends up running straight into the killer, but as he's almost upon her, a security guard making his rounds shows up, scaring him off. However, she does get a good look at the killer's face, realizing all the victims had a tie to the killer, and not only that, but so does she. Will Molly survive this semester, or end up in pieces? ------------------ I wish more authors would take notes. I want to read ALL the horror movies novelizations. I'm literally obsessed with them - especially the cheesy, old horror movies. So, needless to say, I loved this! This authors books are always quick, fun and easy reads, and I swear he's a machine not a man because he churns them out like there's no tomorrow. Do yourself a favor and give one a try.
Ooooo this is a good one! It's Berry, so you already know it's gonna be fast, nasty, mean, and fun. Of course there's some nods f to the movie Pieces (a favorite of mine), but this isn't a rehash (reslash?). Absolutely savage. If you look at the cover and still think you might want to read this; fucking do it. You're gonna love it!
Molly is a college student who has aspirations of becoming an Olympic swimmer. At her college there has been a bunch of murders by the hands of a caped madman. One by one, and her friends are disappearing. This was a great 80’s style slasher story that I greatly enjoyed.
This is the ultimate slasher novel. Brian Berry writes a Pieces inspired slasher, and it was incredible. A slasher that is sleazy and gory. An absolute masterpiece.
When ya come back to write the review and notice fat thumb accidentally presses 4 stars 🤪 No thumb it’s 5! This will have to be up there as one of my fave Berry books yet. The character building and story line kept me hooked from start to finish.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was action packed from the get go. No messing just lots of blood and gore followed up with strong detective work. A university were young students are hunted and massacred to the extreme. But detective Whitlock is on the case. Only thing is can he get the intruder before anymore are massacred or will it all be too much for him. Some really strong characters my favourite being Whitlock with his strong will at doing everything he can. I didn't like the arts professor. More interested in meeting friends than the safety of students. I got angry myself at that woman, and it's only fiction. Just goes to show you the strength of the characters and story. Recommended!
This read like a horror movie, and I enjoyed it very much.
The story was fast-paced, and had a mystery to be solved: beautiful young women were being chopped up, certain “parts” of their bodies were taken away by the killer. Why those specific parts? Why these young women? As we were led closer to the identity of the killer, a bigger plan that tied everything together was revealed.
This is possibly the greatest slasher I have ever read. The way berry mixes astonishing poetic descriptions alongside the gut-wrenching descriptions of gore makes for an astonishing story. There were plenty kill scenes, all of them fantastically gory. The characters were well-written. Only down side was that it ended. Brian, you’re the fucking GOAT
Homages to the glory days of vhs 80's are in vogue in recent years and this is one of the very best. I got heavy Pieces vibes from the cover alone and the work inside definitely didn't disappoint. Just bloody good fun and will be checking out the authors other work
Brian G. Berry continues to kill it with this series. (Quite Literally). These are always such a gory, slashing, good time. This one in particular was super creative with some of the artistic liberties that happened within the pages.
Brutal. Surprise twist at the end. Non-stop action. I've read several Brian Berry novels. I see his writing getting better as he writes more. Looking forward to reading g more of his work. I can't find Bones The Clown: Ascension. Was it published under a different title.
This book is definitely a slasher book! That is the only way you can describe it! A lot of blood a gore! Sort of like a slasher horror movie ! If you read it get the visional!
A nasty, grim massacre that only intensifies as the body count rises. The death scenes are depraved and messy. This is bloodletting at its gurgling, geyser spraying finest.
A serial killer on the loose, in this 80s horror story. Story was very violent and gory but also typical 80s horror. I would give an example but don't want to leave spoilers. I loved it though!
