David Martyn Lloyd-Jones was a Welsh Protestant minister, preacher and medical doctor who was influential in the Reformed wing of the British evangelical movement in the 20th century. For almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London. Lloyd-Jones was strongly opposed to Liberal Christianity, which had become a part of many Christian denominations; he regarded it as aberrant. He disagreed with the broad church approach and encouraged evangelical Christians (particularly Anglicans) to leave their existing denominations. He believed that true Christian fellowship was possible only amongst those who shared common convictions regarding the nature of the faith.
I consider this the best book every written on marriage, family, and work relationships. Martyn Lloyd-Jones is a master expositor. There is no better foundation to build your relationships upon than the teachings of God's Word. The doctor brings these to life in a powerful fashion in Life in the Spirit.
This is a book I recommend to anyone who dares call themselves followers of Christ. In times like these, a book like this one can push us back to a deeper understanding of the Scriptures, and to a reckoning and renewal of our relationship with the Most High. To say the least, it was both refreshing and shocking. This is one of the, if not the, greatest Christian books that was ever written.
But now will come the tough part. Living in the Spirit. Actions speak louder than words. And indeed they do.
During the read, I have listened to a whole range of worship music, but especially to Bethel Music. One of the songs that stuck in my mind and I truly enjoyed during the read was Heroes by Amanda Cook. (Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJkW7...)
As for the book, all I can say in the end is that it's a true masterpiece!
Vintage MLJ. Not much else can be said. Radically God centred in all things yet clearly full of love for God and His people. Outstanding expositions. The more I read of him the more I appreciate Him, but more importantly am led to Christ and to love Him more fully. How friends of mine have never read even the MLJ biography or his sermons is totally beyond me. A spiritual giant. Very highly recommended! Praise the Lord!
