Kade Boehme is the epitome of dorkdom, only watching TV when Rachel Maddow or one of his sports teams is on. Most of his free time is spent dancing, arguing politics or with his nose in a book. He is also a hardcore Britney Spears fangirl and has an addiction to glitter.

It was after writing a short story about boys who loved each other for a less than reputable adult website that he found his true calling, and hopefully a bit more class. He hopes to write about all the romance that he personally finds himself allergic to but that others can fall in love with. He maintains that life is real and the stories should be, as well.

I loved every bit of this book. The heart break, the feelings of betrayal, every tear shed and the raw love shared between them. I only wished for a longer ending. I felt that the book needed an epilogue and it was missing it. I was left with some questions, but still surprisingly satisfied with what I received.

Mates a definite read! I will be on the look out for more from this fabulous author xx

Seemed fitting...

Kade Boehme did it again- another great story. I've had this book for a little while now and hadn't read it because I've never really been into mafia/gangster books. After having read four other books by him and loving them, I figured why not. In this story we have Gianni and Logan. Gianni, whom has grown up in a life of crime and sees no way out. Then we have Logan, Texas boy who's moved to the big city for a change of pace.

 photo imagejpg1_zpsc6c49ca3.jpg

I really loved the way he set up the story. I can't remember reading another author who started things the way he did. I would tell you what I'm talking about but I can't- you gotta find out for yourself :). As usual Kade Boehme makes us fall in love with his characters. One thing I appreciate about his stories is belief in second chances and that there is always I hope. I have found that to be underlying theme in his books. Anyhoo, as I mentioned before another home run from this author and the book nerd in me is super excited that he's got numerous projects in the works. 4.5 Stars!

3.6 Stars - NY ganster romance with a thrilling topic

First of all; there's probably a lot to say about this book, but I loved the plot and the MC's. This story is both heartbreaking exciting with thrilling suspense but also very tender and romantic. Maybe a kind of melodrama now and then, but I really enjoyed the story itself.

What perhaps is a little sad, is that this book would have needed a further round with the tough red pen, a helpful editor and a little better structure so you don't have to guess who said what, etc. ~ But since I'm a kind and humble lady (yes really...), I forgive all the shortcomings and concentrate on what appealed to me.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Gangster Country is about Gianni Rodriguez the younger brother to Miguel Rodriguez leader for Los Cuervos a criminal gang in NY. Gianni is his brothers second arm... but also, secretly, gay.
“Just know, I chose you, okay?...”

The story begins a year after Gianni first met the good looking social worker and the priest's ranch son from Texas, Logan Marshall at a party. Logan is both beautiful on the inside and outside and Gianni can not resist him. In the greatest secrecy, they keep on meeting in a extra apartment Gianna gained in Manhattan. Logan has no idea what Gianni does the rest of the time ... and that's probably a big luck.
 photo image_zps3800fa17.jpg

..., Gianni was a monster. Logan was only supposed to be in Gianni's mind when they were safe from the world in their place.’

A gorgeous brown eyed NY gangster and a sweet ranch boy aka social worker - it can not but be interesting. This topic was made for drama and harsh revelations. Gianni did horrible things every day and there are no excuses for violence, drug sales, threats, etc. I really felt for both of these men, and I was naturally both upset and angry by how "horrible" actually Gianni also could be. But never against Logan... he really cared about him.

When everything finally fell, it was hard and roughly and I almost had a stomach ache. ...But as the romantics we are, we hope, of course, on a grand beautiful HEA. How it could be possible in this romance is of course partly the charm and also the most incredible with Gangster Country. ~ That's not realism writing we want, or how, but fantastic romantic heroism and glorious, grand final. ...like a lovely romantic thriller movie.

This metropolitan atmosphere, the slightly different hero, Gianni (I always like, or actually love, the bad ones that turn out to have a heart), and the intense glow between the men, still made this somewhat unforgettable... for the moment anyway.
“Because you're good. and the world needs good like you, angel.” Gianni's jaw thicked then he finished, “I need your good in the world.”

Although I, as I said, saw some flaws, this story caught me completely. It was so very emotionally gripping, intense, sentimental romantic and it happened after all, a lot of unexpected stuff too.

This is not a long book (135 pages) and it would be even that much better with a little more content, a developed story and some trimming. But still... a good read. I'm pleased.
...and on my good and generously mood today, hence 4 stars.

I LIKE - good enough!

My sweet friend Mona recommended me this interesting gangster romance. Thanks, my friend!

2.5 lukewarm stars

The book doesn't follow the typical m/m relationship curve: meet, clash or crush, tension, angst, relationship development, conflict, resolution, possibly a HEA.

In the prequel (first chapter), Logan and Gianni meet at a Manhattan party. Gianni, a gang member from the wrong side of town, feels out of his element. He originally hits on Logan's twink roommate but quickly abandons that idea when he catches a glimpse of Logan, a social worker and preacher's son from Texas. Logan, however, doesn't much care for Gianni's attitude and walks away from him (not very far, though).

The next chapter begins "one year later": Logan and Gianni have been together for a year as sort-of-boyfriends/fuck-buddies. Gianni doesn't want to commit because Logan doesn't know the whole truth about his job or life. Logan suspects there's more to Gianni than meets the eye but doesn't want to let Gianni go. It was never entirely clear to me how Logan can be so, well, oblivious; as such, he seems to suspect all's not right in la-la land but puts up with Gianni's evasiveness. Why, I couldn't understand. We're told Gianni is thoughtful, but he's also, um, a killer, so that was a bit hard to swallow.

However, when Gianni's involvement with a drug dealer threatens to hurt Logan (who was at the wrong place at the wrong time), things explode. Suddenly, Gianni has to choose: his gang and family or his lover?

That sounds exciting, no? But it's not plotted tightly enough to be all that interesting. The juxtaposition between the men is too black and white. Logan is a social worker and all good; even the total acceptance of his sexuality by his religious parents goes without a hitch (they're god people, but they're hippies!). Logan glows; he helps people and walks on water. Meanwhile, Gianni glowers. He's had a shit life, was wrapped up in gang activity before he knew better, etc.

The stereotypes abound. The crime/gang stuff was fairly central to the plot here, but it was nothing new. The sex scenes were scarce and abstract, and didn't offer particular tension.

Also, there were many typos and spelling errors. At one point, one MC wraps his arms around the other MC's "waste." *face palm* The typos seriously got in the way of my reading enjoyment.

Yes, there's resolution and a HEA. I liked the ending, but it wasn't quite enough to fully redeem the book for me.

How to review this book? Kade asked me to tell him I "how badly I hated it". Okay… I hated that I was sucked in at the start. I hated that I felt so in touch with the characters that I could hear them in the room. I hated that I couldn't "put the book down" even though I did because I had a few appointments and I am a responsible person. But then I came back to it and stayed up all night reading. So I hate that I am tired and groggy and cried so hard before I went to bed. I hate that I couldn't see half the time because of those tears. I hate that he writes emotions SO WELL that my neck and shoulders FELT Gianni's tension. I hate Kade.

Okay. I lie a lot. I am sarcastic and all of the above should be taken as the opposite. I love Kade.

And this book was amazing. The tension was in the room with me. The authenticity of the characters and settings and the circumstances made me wonder if Kade was in a gang in NY recently. It was very believable. But this is not for the faint of heart. This had some extremely real and brutal moments that made me wince, cry, and get a little sick. Is this the best book Kade has ever written? IDK, I have only read 2. But I would say he has raised his personal bar. This is a wonderful book. highly recommended.

Gangster Country didn't work for me. I thought the story was boring and I found some of the inconsistency's annoying. Gianna is supposed to be a big bad guy but Wendy and his brother spoke about him like he was an idiot. Logan was way to good of a southern boy for me and I found it unbelievable that he would hook up with Gianna for a year, several times a week and ask no personal questions. So tell me how are they in love? The ending was also ridiculous and sappy. Sorry Kade but I enjoyed some of your other books better.

Spoiler Ahead This was a really good book that I didn't think I would like this much. Logan Marshall moves to New York to be a social worker where he feels he's needed most. Logan is from a small town in Texas where is father is a rancher and a preacher and his mother his a school teacher who taught health. His parents were very open minded and didn't have any problems with him being gay. So when he goes to a party with his two roommates he meets Gianni Rodriguez a gang member from Brooklyn who is leading a double life because he knows that his family will never accept him for being gay. I did have a problem when the book skipped ahead to one year later after these two hooked up. Gianni never tells Logan what he does he is second in command of Los Cuervos with his brother being head honcho Gianni tries to keep Logan from the real world that he lives in so he keeps telling himself that it's only sex when he feels so much more. I was really pulling for these two to get their happy ever after. When Logan is ordered to investigate a report at the home of a local drug dealer things don't go as planned and he fines himself on the dealers hit list and Gianni is ordered to do the hit. Logan is shocked and devastated when Gianni puts a gun to his head and he learn the truth about his lover although he knew deep down that Gianni was a gangster but he wasn't afraid of him until he learned that he was a killer. This was a really good book Gianni did everything he could to save Logan's life because he realized that he loved him so he goes against everything he holds dear to him. This was a really good book these two had a lot of hot chemistry. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more of his work.

Kade Boehme’s new book Gangster Country is a very well written and well rounded story. I found myself pulled along by this book, both enjoying and annoyed by the main characters. It definitely took me through a range of emotions with some great lines that made me smile, curse, gasp and cry. There are so many good things about the book that I don’t even know where to start with my review.

The openly gay southern farm boy Logan Marshall moves to New York to be a social worker. In a bar he meets Gianni Rodriguez, and they both feel the immediate attraction. What's supposed to be a meaningless one night stand grows to much more. Logan has no idea though that Gianni isn't exactly boyfriend material.

A year later they are still 'fuck buddies' and meet nearly every night at the apartment which Gianni has rented for this very reason. He can’t risk getting himself into a committed relationship with Logan and he can't tell him who he really is, because he thinks of himself as a sinner and lost cause. He is Gianni Alfonso Rodriguez, the second in command in Los Cuervos, his older brother’s gang. They are drug runners, pimps and killers. Gianni is the dark to Logan’s light.
Gianni’s face never changed, but he stared for a second at a point behind Logan before looking back at Logan and letting the façade crack for an instant. “Because you’re good. And the world needs good like you, angel.” Gianni’s jaw ticked then he finished, “I need your good in the world.”

When Gianni’s brother Miguel orders a hit on the social worker, Logan is thrown into the world Gianni has tried so hard to keep him out of. Gianni has to decide if Logan is worth risking his family and everything he has worked for.

At some point Gianni gave me the creeps and I would have done anything, just anything, to take Logan by the hand and pull him out of New York. Then….. and I have no idea how Kade did that seemingly impossible thing… I couldn’t help but fall in love with Gianni, even when I didn’t want to. I cried hot tears with him and begged Logan to forgive him and just love him.
I’m not stupid. I’m going in this with eyes wide open. But I think there’s so much more light in you than the dark you’ve let run your life.”… Gianni couldn’t help himself when Logan’s voice broke on those last few words. He moved and did the only thing Gianni knew he ever could do right in this world. He wrapped his arms around Logan and he took care of him.

The secondary characters are well done too. Gabriel, OMG poor, cute Gabriel, his fate made me so sad. Miguel, whom I hated with all my heart and Wendy, Gianni’s only hope. Logan’s family, every child should have such loving, accepting parents. Keith Hennessy, first a pain in the ass and then a supporting friend.

I just love Kade's gripping writing style. The story sucked me in from the start and I couldn't stop reading. The depth of emotions just captured me. I felt the nail-biting tension. I hung on Kade's every word. The book made me smile, gasp and cry with the guys. Fortunately I read it on a quiet, winter Sunday and no one dared to bother me. :)

Highly recommended to anyone who expects more from a story than a cute romance and hot sex. Be warned, it's not for the faint of heart! It’s action-packed and violent. Do you want more than porn without much plot? Go and read it! This book is truly amazing.

Shortie review. 4.5 stars and well on a par with Don't Trust the Cut for me. Loved Logan especially, and Gianni, well let's just say he grew on me. Not giving anything away, and for a review that echoes my thoughts on the author AND the book, I would suggest you look at Tina Marie's.... wonderful as always. Many thanks again Kade, and keep 'em coming!!

Really loved this one. I have a thing for bad boys. And when I say that, I mean men who haven't really done everything on the up and up but still they have a big heart in there. That was definitely Gianni and he owned my heart. So glad I read it.

Review written for Hearts on Fire Reviews.

This solid story grabs your attention early on, keeps you on edge and guessing until the end.

Logan is such a sweetheart and all-around good guy. He moved away from home in Texas to NYC to make a difference with his career in social work. He meets Gianni, by chance through mutual friends, and they hit it off. Even though Logan can tell Gianni is bad news in some way, and Gianni knows he should keep things short with Logan, neither are willing to make that happen. Logan continues to turn a blind eye to the possibilities surrounding Gianni, and likewise, Gianni keeps allowing them to get more involved.

They are total opposites, but just seem right together. You don’t want to like Gianni, knowing all that he is holding back and keeping from Logan, but it doesn’t take long before you want to forgive him right alongside Logan. Things seem to be going so well for them, until Gianni decides he needs to step back for both of their sakes. Unfortunately, things are taken out of their hands when Logan’s job collides with Gianni’s other life in a very drastic way, and Logan is forced to see the other Gianni.

Gianni must then make some tough decisions that go against everything he has believed up to this point in his life. Loyalty and duty family and the gang come to heads with his doing what is right and his feelings for Logan. Throughout this story, I was grumbling and urging Gianni to do certain things or make certain choices, but by the end, I was cheering him on.

I really enjoyed this and loved the way it was written. However, there were certain areas throughout that I really wished were more detailed. At various times, it felt as though things were almost skimmed over, and I would have liked to have seen a little more depth here and there. My only other issue was the frequent editing mistakes. More than once, there were names switched or incorrect words used which took me out of the story.

However, setting those issues aside, this was a really good book that gives you emotion and romance with some hot sex, the dark edge of the gang issues, mystery and some sweet reuniting and recovery. I definitely recommend checking this author’s work, as he has quickly made his way to my must-read-soon list.

So, Kade Boehme has been one of my favorite authors for a while now. I have read all of his books and I like all of them, some of them I absolutely love. One thing I have always loved about his books is that there isn't any insta-love. The MCs in his novels have to work very hard for their HEAs. I feel that is the way it should be. Anything worth having is worth working hard for.

In this newest book Logan and Gianni have to work through what seems to be impossible odds. These two men couldn't be anymore different if they tried.

Logan is an Ivy League educated farm boy from Texas. His father is a preacher, yet he still loves and supports Logan. Even though he is very close to his parents he moves to New York to work for DCF and he feels he really makes a difference.

Gianni is a high school dropout that is second only to his brother in one of the street gangs in New York. Gianni sells drugs, dishes out punishment and eliminates people all on the orders of his brother. He has no room in his life for emotions. He can never come out, not to the gang or to his family. He would lose everything, including his life.

What Gianni doesn't expect is to meet Logan. What is supposed to be a one night stand grows and thrives for over a year. Gianni tries to keep some sort of distance between himself and Logan, but he seems destined to fail. They have both gone way beyond casual sex, they are both in love, they just won't admit it to themselves or each other.

When the inevitable happens and their two very different lives collide Gianni has to make a choice between what he has always known and the man he loves. This decision will change both of their lives in many different ways. There will be no going back. There will have to be concessions made by both of these men if they want even a small chance at normal.

In my opinion this is the best book Kade Boehme has written so far. His writing style is very clear and I always feel like I know the MCs personally. Gianni is the type of character that you really should hate. He is that type of guy you wouldn't want your son or daughter to bring home, and yet I have nothing but love for him. By the end of the book I was rooting for him! How does that happen? It happens through GREAT writing.

I highly recommend this book and I dare you not to like it!!! If I could I would give it 10 stars!

I went on a Kade-binge over the weekend and this was the last one I read. I'm glad I ended with this, because it was different.

I'm seeing this book get a lot of negative/mediocre reviews and for the some of the same reasons. "How did Logan not really know his "boyfriend" of a year?" The thing is is that Until you've been in the situation I'm not sure anyone can say what they would or wouldn't do. I tend to get personal when it comes to books vs. my real life, but I can't in this case. Let me just say that you see what you want and you really don't ask questions. If you ask questions it becomes real.

I loved Logan's Gi. The one very few people knew. I loved his whole "I know how he takes his coffee and what Chinese place to order from." I loved Logan's real reactions to things happening.

Fuck it, I just want more. I'm not done with Gi and Logan. I might be okay with Gabe, but right now I'm mad.

PLEASE say there's more in the works. GAH! See, this is why I want more.

4 HEARTBREAKING STARS

I have to say I really enjoyed this story, I was disappointed it ended so quickly, I would have loved to see what happened after the end, I'd even be happy with an outtake.

Logan Marshall is a social worker from Texas that moves to New York where he felt he was needed. Logan's always had it good, his parents love him, he loves his work and is good at it, he has friends that care and a tight sexy body that never lets him be alone, only problem, he doesnt want one-night stands but someone to love.

Gianni Rodriguez grew up in Brooklyn. He cant help but be attracted to Logan, he is fascinated that someone like him exists. He is second in command of the Los Cuervos gang, it's all he's ever know since his brother dragged him into it, it's all he's ever known. Gianni's life would be in serious jeopardy if anyone ever knew the truth. That's why his growing attachment for Logan is a bad thing.

When Logan's work collides with Gianni's world, Gianni has to decide if Logan is worth risking everything, even his family-- Should he risk it? Even if Logan doesnt want anything to do with him after he finds out the truth?

I loved this, it was realistic and sad and heartbreaking and sexy. I thought Logan was the light that Gi needed in his life for his way to redemption, but ill never get over how it ended, I wanted more! Even one little extra chapter!

“𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥.” 𝐆𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢’𝐬 𝐣𝐚𝐰 𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝, “𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝.”

This is a book that I have read after a long time bcs of my exams. So, my judgement might be a little clouded😅.

Logan is literally the good boy. The kid parents will look and and turn to you and tell 'why can't you be more like that?'. Hence making it a little unrealistic. It's hard for me to relate to characters like that, because I am definitely not that good. I mean, it's kind of hard to believe that someone would call their parents every fucking day. Also, the fact that his mom kind of tried to guilt him for leaving for New York didn't sit well with me. Overbearing parents are not cute. I'd know.

Gianni is a criminal. That's most of his character shown in his pov. Most of the character traits of him are actually given by Logan. So I really don't know how to describe him except that he is bad and he is sweet. He really loved Logan.

“𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥.”

The story in itself was rushed and felt like the author skipped a lot of things. How they even ended up together or how Gianni got out or anything. Nothing was clear. It had so many plot holes, I thought my phone had a hole in it. 🕳️

Still, they were good together. I couldn't help but feel a little happy for these two guys even though I really didn't connect with them. It's like one of those young couple you see having a good time while you were walking by and you r like well... They'll probably break up but I hope they make it... That kind of feeling.

“𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰, 𝐈 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐨𝐤𝐚𝐲? 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐈 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭.”

Two very different men from two very different backgrounds…

Logan Marshall is a social worker whose job has taken him to New York where he feels he’s needed the most. This country boy who grew up in a Texas ranch has got it easy with his hippie parents who have no qualms about him being gay.

description

Then he meets Gianni Rodriguez.

description

Gianni grew up in Brooklyn and is part of the Los Cuervos gang as his brother’s right hand and the doer of its dirty deeds. When he met Logan at a party, what started out as a simple arrangement to fool around became something Gianni didn’t expect to blossom. They are after all just friends with benefits. Right? Right?

When Logan’s work got tangled up with Gianni’s secret life, the latter has to decide whether to risk everything he’s ever known including his family or risk losing the only man he ever loved. Could Logan be Gianni’s salvation in the harsh and cruel gangster country?

What I really enjoyed most about the book is the pacing of the story. At the beginning, (like literally after the prologue) I was at a loss because it was just a wee bit fast then the whole story developed and the next thing I know I was at the last page already. I thought about it and I figured that it’s for the best that I didn’t have to read a lot of killings, drug dealings and all to get the gist on Gianni’s background. I thought there should’ve been more about Logan but obviously, his entanglement with Gianni is what made his character interesting.

Gianni pulled away from Logan and started banging his chest so hard it was bound to bruise. Maybe if he hit it hard enough, his heart would stop aching like it did.

I was a bit saddened by the way Gianni’s family reacted at the end especially his Mami. I guess it’s a part of the story that we’ll get to read about in its sequel [yup, there’s a sequel coming up this year according to the author]

I also loved the characters of Gabriel and Hennessey. I’m hoping that Kade would do something about these two secondary characters. Much more for Gabriel’s sake because that beautiful, broken boy needed something to lift him up.

Overall, I thought the whole thing was solid. There’s more healing to be done for both Logan and Gianni and although Gianni has made a lot of wrong choices in life, everyone deserved their second chances and I can’t wait to read its sequel for that and of course, Gianni needs to avenge Wendy!!! Oops. Yup, I guess I’m big on sweet revenge when my character gets beaten up! He needs to stand up more for what he lost and almost missed out on not having Logan in his life.

This book deserves five star rating from me because I’m a sucker for such characters and with true love beating all the odds… *wink*

The concern on Gianni’s face was why Logan had never feared Gianni. He had such a soft heart for a guy who looked like he’d just done a stint in Statesville. Gianni’s body was hard in all the right places and he had too many tattoos for Logan to even take inventory of each one. But that face was the face of a model, pretty and kind, with brown eyes that were wide open with affection when it was just the two of them. Logan had seen them grow hard in fear, and they were even scarier in anger. But those eyes never shone with anything but deep caring when Logan looked into them, no matter how the man tried to school his face into passive indifference.

My favorite Kade Boehme book.

Terrific story about two men on opposite sides of the law. This was my first book by Kade Boehme but it definitely won't be the last. Logan and Gianni were very well developed characters. It was a shame that Gianni had to hide his family ties and live in the closet. I don't think that Logan could have handled the truth about Gianni's mob connections earlier in their relationship. A well written, fast paced story that had me glued to the pages right up until the end. Highly recommended.

First off...Kade, I love you!! Okay, now about the book. God what a ride. The fact that farm boy Logan managed to actually survive and excel at his job in New York with such a hard job...just wow. And Gianni, ah, Gianni, the worst kind of bad boy with a big heart. Loved this story but would really have loved to see their first encounter on page. I bet it was hot! :)

You can tell this isn't the polished writing that Boehme puts out now. It was quite unrealistic, and my favorite part happened off-page, the relationship building.

totally unbelievable and unrealistic.
the characters lacked of depth and they were extremely black or white, no inbetween.
if you can get past of this, it’s an okay read to fill a couple of hours

2.75 stars This was aiight. It follows a different format, since Logan and Gianni meet in the Prologue and then chapter 1 begins one year later after they have been boyfriends/fuck-buddies/falling-in-love-but-no-one-wants-to-admit-it.

Logan says he "had a feeling Gianni wasn't on the up-and-up", but after a year of not knowing what someone does for work even though you sleep at their apartment almost every night and they go to work every morning... it's more than a "feeling." It's fucking obvious. But I could suspend belief for that. I enjoyed their time together and enjoyed the plot overall.

In regards to Gianni, I didn't quite buy him as a gang member, let alone Miguel's right hand man. He didn't seem involved enough. Miguel never seemed to ask his opinion. Also, small detail, their last name is Rodriguez because the father is a Hispanic immigrant, yet Gianni has an Italian first name because their mother is Italian. I find it odd that Miguel doesn't have an Italian first name also. Whatever.

I did think the family was a bit inconsistent. His mom fawns over him, yet later behavior is contrasting I would have liked a follow-up with that, actually, I would have like an Epilogue for several reasons.

Namely, to clarify the ending. I liked the way things worked out, but I felt we needed some wrap-up. Maybe the Epilogue could be another year later just to show that they've all healed from their ordeals , I mean, Logan must have some effen PTSD after all the shit he saw! But after that first night they kinda blow over it.

Errors:

Gianni's nickname for Logan is Angel... yet when talking of his old hookup and now meth addict, Gabriel, his says "Maybe it was the desperation he saw in Angel's eyes." Huh?!

Calling Wendy's husband Erik, when his name is Elijah.

Mixing up the MAIN CHARACTERS names!

Logan to Gabriel: "What do you say we go get a couple beers and watch some TV" he's a recovering addict you fucking IDIOT!

Logan: "I don't understand anything about where you come from." Really? Cuz I'm pretty sure you have a degree in Social Work, everyone raves about how wonderful you are, and you work in Spanish Harlem. So I would think you'd see a lot of kids who are growing up the way Gianni did, or are from gang homes. No?

I believe this is the first Kade Boehme book I've read and I have to say I did really enjoy the writing. The characters are engaging and the world is clearly detailed and enriching. That being said the story falls a little short for me being on the slightly unbelievable side. Admittedly if you let that little wrinkle go you'll probably enjoy this story more.

Logan and Gianni as a couple are once wrong step away from exploding as a couple, but you really could feel that they were inexplicably drawn to each other. I liked that we got the intro to how these two met before jumping a year into the future. This story is all about the effects of these two finally getting to see who the other really is...ok so really Logan getting to see who Gianni really is, but that's ok. The people they are as a couple is the heart of who each man is, but the external day to day of Gianni's world has the potential to complete destroy the relationship he and Logan share.

The reality of the world that Gianni grew up in and lives each day isn't the unrealistic part of this. You sympathize with his plight, because it's easy to see how he ended up living in the world he does and following the rules that are expected of him. Logan is the only bright spot in his life and yet just being with Logan puts him in danger and makes him face the reality of his choices.

So where do things go downhill...well it's the actual conflagration that occurs for me. Ok not the event per se so much as how the aftermath plays out. This isn't really a happily ever after scenario in real life, though I do appreciate the author giving these two characters theirs anyway. I'll take it in my fiction. :D

Over-the-top, highly unrealistic, but ultimately, a fair amount of fun.

Logan Marshall is a do-gooder who has fallen in love with Gianni Rodriguez, a banger. Except Gianni has somehow managed, for the space of a year, to conceal the fact that he sells drugs and engages in other far-from-savory activities when he and Logan part at the beginning of each day. It's a slightly odd set-up; I know I'd be more than a little bit annoyed if the man I loved was super cagey, not just about introducing me to his friends and family, but also about what he did for cash. Logan wasn't stupid; he had his suspicions. But he was in love, so he let it all slide.

Until, of course, we hit the high-octane portion of the novel, when Logan's world and Gianni's world met in a head-on collision, and Gianni was forced to make some pretty intense choices that made him to accept what was pretty clear to the reader from the first chapter -- the intensity of his feelings in the situation. So the tension here built around the question of whether and how he was going to be able to extricate himself from the criminal mess that characterized his life.

The story, in general, was a light, fun read. But it had problems. As I suggested, the set-up was fairly implausible, so you have to suspend a lot of disbelief.

This is one of those books that you pick up just because you feel like reading about bad boys falling in love. If you don't expect much, and if you just go with it and have fun, you'll probably dig the ride. I did!
