Pie Town #2

Welcome Back to Pie Town

“Lynne Hinton writes about the most important things—family, friends, and faith—with grace, wit, and a keen insight.”
—Silas House, author of Clay’s Quilt

“Reading Hinton’s light, quickly moving prose feels like sitting down to catch up with an old friend over coffee.”
—New Mexico Magazine

Lynne Hinton of Friendship Cake fame delighted readers everywhere when she invited them to experience the simple joys and small triumphs of the endearing residents of Pie Town—a tiny New Mexico community once renowned for its unsurpassable baked desserts. And now, Welcome Back to Pie Town for a second slice of small-town life, as sweet and tasty as the first. The recently rejuvenated Pie Town is a tiny speck of heaven on earth for most of its inhabitants, but not for one recently returned veteran of the war in Afghanistan, who now feels ill at ease and out of place—and it will take the love of a good woman and the support of the whole town to truly bring him back home again. As an extra added treat, Welcome Back to Pie Town features recipes from the novel…for mouth-watering pies, of course.

This is a continuation of the story began in Pie Town. All the characters are back and in different places in their lives. There’s a match to be made by two older people; young love is tested; and a priest’s faith is put to good use. I could live in Pie Town.

Start with Pie Town before reading Welcome Back to Pie Town. Read everything by Lynne Hinton. It will be a labor of love and enjoyment. There are pie recipes, too.

This is the sequel to the original Pie Town book. It carries over all of the characters from the original book, but focuses particularly on Raymond Twinhorse. He has returned from Afghanistan after being injured and tries to continue the relationship with Trina Lockhart. Father Morris really develops as a character. The community really begins to unite.
A reading guide/discussion is included at the back of the book.

A perfect ending for the Pie Town books! It felt like I lived in Pie Town and personally knee the characters in the book. I loved it! - The book also opened me up to the possibility of becoming a social worker for veterans and military personnel. It's a path that I want to highly considered, now that I have my BSW. - AMAZING BOOK!

The Unbroken Circle of Faith and Hope

The story begins and ends with a blessing, like the crust and top of a pie. It's the filling (the heart of the story) that gives this book its zest.
A story of faith, family and loyalty in the community that keeps you reading.

I enjoyed this book especially the ending. I live in the Southwest so it was fun to read about the places I’ve been. I had some good pie in Pie Town. Orvis was my favorite character. He had me laughing.

Inspirational story of how Pie Town bands together to support a returning hero with PTSD. Much growth of all the characters development from the first book in the series. This would make a great television series!

Welcome Back to Pie Town continues the Pie Town series with stories of the residents that intermingle with each other. All of them are about very ordinary people that come through for each other in very extraordinary ways. The major plot line revolves around an FBI agent who bungles a drug bust and then latches on to the next local incident to try to redeem himself. The next incident happens to be a returned Afghanistan vet who gets drunk and ends up being thrown out of a bar. The next day the owner of the bar discovers that he is missing all of the cash from the drawer and blames it on the vet. Somehow the FBI agent also throws in that the vet is dealing drugs. While all of the stories and characters in the book are enjoyable, the actions of the FBI agent are the hardest to read. He places the father of the fugitive in jail and is able to keep him there without actually charging him by using the powers that have been granted to law enforcement as a reaction to terrorism.

I changed my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars because this is a great read if you consider the genre. It is intended to be "light fiction", and Lynne Hinton has done an excellent job.

I just love reading about the variety of characters who reside in Pie Town, New Mexico. I am looking forwarding to reading the next book in the series. These folks feel like old friends.

I do not live in New Mexico, but wish that I did. I have visited the state several times and love its great natural beauty. Consequently, I very much enjoy Hinton's lovely descriptions of the area.

Sequel to Pie Town... another quick read on my lazy, 3-day weekend.

When Raymond Twinhorse's undiagnosed PTSD gets out of control with his girlfriend, Trina, Raymond goes into hiding. A drunken night of sorrow spent at the bar gets twisted into an armed robbery charge and the FBI snooping around Pie Town. While the residents of Pie Town rally around Raymond, Trina's past comes knocking on her door one day...
