I waited too long to review this book. But I do remember enjoying this story.

Let's see?

The story is about the h losing her dowry and having to live with her brother. Her brother is about to get married and wants his sister out. He suggests marriage to his best friend who used to love his other sister. Luckily, for the brother, his friend is in love with the h.

Soon, it becomes a cat and mouse game between the MC. Eventually, they marry, but problems arise when they return. They are temporarily staying with her brother, his new wife(bitch), Aunt and Uncle, and the newly widowed melodramatic sister. Of course, calamity occurs, one resulting in two deaths.

I loved the H! The h needed to grow up. Her evil dead mother is still controlling her actions. When these two were together, it was beautiful. To bad outsiders always ruined their tranquil peace.

For Bodice-ripper fans, I highly recommend this book. It has all the fine elements of a good BR!

I wonder what ever happened to Elizabeth Hewitt?? She is, to me, a powerhouse of a writer who consistently wrote excellent Regency novels. I especially love False of Heart because the conflict that keeps the H/H from fully enjoying their union is complex and deeply rooted in the heroine's unhappy relationship with her family. The hero is written with such command of what makes a man desirable that he sticks out in my mind as such a real person.

I read all of Hewitt's books back in the 90's and only just went and re-read them all again to see if my memory of her was valid. Not too surprised to find that they still hold up as excellent reads.

If you love well written regencies that tell love stories with believable and desirable characters that you really want to see have their happy ending, read anything by Hewitt. But especially get a hold of False of Heart; the hero/heroine are smart, sexy, and their banter is amazing. It takes a little of its inspiration from Taming of the Shrew but the characters acknowledge that up front.
