THE NOTORIOUS LADY NORWOODEvelyn, Lady Norwood, the young wife of the wealthy and handsome Lord James Norwood, was one of society's most dazzling beauties -- and on her way to becoming the most scandalous. For despite her perfect marriage and ideal mate, she had joined a circle of bluebloods conspicuous for high living and loose morals -- a circle headed by the elegant, unprincipled Jonathan Dancer, who did not mask his desire to be more than Evelyn's friend. No one, and especially not her increasingly hostile husband, suspected the secret that drew Evelyn ever closer to the brink of folly and ruin as she staked her good name and love itself on the most dangerous gamble a proper but impetuous young lady could take....
This heroine was worse than PMS, a migraine and a sore throat all combined. I read until the part where the imbecile heroine lost her memory and I just couldn't be bothered to soldier on, despite the obvious fact that this is a trainwreck of massive proportions.
The heroine was a poor country girl who's married to a rich Earl ( the H ) and when he brings her to London for the season, she starts to associate with a bad crowd and embarrasses herself - bringing disrepute to the H's reputation.
No regency era alpha male H is gonna tolerate this kinda scandal, especially when he'd been such an awesome and sweet husband to this moronic douchebitch, who's just concerned about showing off her wardrobe, jewels, new title and having the worst rake in the Ton chase after her.
The H's a decent, upstanding husband who's concerned about his duties in the House of Lords. He doesn't have the time or the inclination to chase after mistresses and he definitely didn't deserve a hoyden of a wife who wasn't willing to abide by the proprieties.
This heroine reminded me of the married OW, in other regencies who are always cheating on their husbands. She didn't actually cheat on her husband, but she accepted gifts from the OM ( a known rake ), attended the opera with him and was oblivious to the scandalous wagging tongues in the Ton.
The book is very well written and I'm sure some readers will enjoy the trainwrecky angst and OTT tropes, but I just can't continue reading if I totally hate the heroine, by the third chapter.
The writing was good, but the story was a little out there. An amnesia storyline is hard to pull off. The FMC was somewhat irritating. She almost always made a bad decision, but I really loved the MMC and wish the author has spent more time on him.
