Describes twenty-five actual cases in which doctors, surgeons, and nurses murdered their patients, exploring the psychological forces that can change a compassionate healer into a sadistic killer. Original.
All in all, not a fan of this collection. One, these stories were written for a magazine, lots of different authors with different styles all collected here in this volume. Two, these stories are written as stories, true events, but sensationalized and written for drama rather than accuracy. Now, this is just my preferrence, but as a true crime junkie I like my stories to focus more on the facts, timeline, and procedure, than a victim lamented the choices that led her to where she was. (An actual author choice, making a rape and torture victim regret getting herself in trouble). Also, I was expecting more "I am a doctor killing you in doctor-y ways" not your average bad murderers trying to get away with it and they happen to be a doctor or other medical practitioner. There were sadly too few of that kind in this collection. There were however, a rather large collection of white men killing their families for one reason or another and then crying that it was all a mistake. Or raping and killing wives and getting a slap on the wrist kind of punishment. These stories are from the 60's - 80's and women's lives still do not seem to matter as much.
Interesting book with short stories about medical professionals that commit murder. I enjoyed the shorter format and the bare bones approach to telling the facts.
