One of the first and most prominent names that come to our mind when we think about American History is that of George Washington. He was the leader of the first successful revolution against a colonial empire. This book discusses in detail how he became an international symbol of liberation and nationalism. There is no wonder why David Fischer defined Washington's character as the one with "integrity, self-discipline, courage, absolute honesty, resolve and decision, but also forbearance, decency, and respect for others."
Gee, I had forgotten a lot of the facts about George. I'm glad I took the time to read this! He did so much for us and only with the college of hard knocks to back him. We need more men like him if we're going to get out of the mess we are in right now. I really enjoyed reading this and I hope you will to. Highly recommended.
This small book is an interesting and brief introduction to George Washington. Just lightly touching on the 'French and Indian War', the 'War of Independence' and the origin of the Democratic and Republican divide, this read has literary been "history in an hour".
I thought I would like a biography for the short attention span but I really thought it moved too fast. Just like this review, its over as soon as it started.
