#1  New York Times  bestselling author Johanna Lindsey’s wonderfully delightful sequel to Say You Love Me. What was to be a grand adventure for Melissa MacGregor—an escape from the wilds of her Scottish home into the whirl of the London social scene—seems to pale before the promise in the passionate gaze of Lincoln Ross Burnett. Though they exchange but a few words before parting after a chance encounter on her grandfather's lands, Melissa instantly knows this bold stranger is her destiny, while Lincoln realizes his heart has been claimed forever and he will never be complete until Melissa MacGregor is his bride. But there are serious obstacles impeding the well-smitten Viscount Cambury's pursuit of glorious sixteen of them—all big and brawny, six named Ian and all named MacFearson. The bane of Lincoln's youth, Melissa's stifling, disapproving uncles are now determined to rob him of his newfound happiness. Yet he is equally resolved to confront the peril—and to pursue his exquisite obsession all the way to London...and to the ends of the earth, if necessary.

Johanna Helen Howard was born on March 10, 1952 in Germany, where her father, Edwin Dennis Howard, a soldier in the U.S. Army was stationed. The family moved about a great deal when she was young. Her father always dreamed of retiring to Hawaii, and after he passed away in 1964 Johanna and her mother settled there to honor him.

In 1970, when she was still in school, she married Ralph Lindsey, becoming a young housewife. The marriage had three children; Alfred, Joseph and Garret, who already have made her a grandmother. After her husband's death, Johanna moved to Maine, New England, to stay near her family.

Johanna Lindsey wrote her first book, Captive Bride in 1977 "on a whim", and the book was a success. By 2006, with over 58 Million copies of her books have been sold worldwide, with translations appearing in 12 languages, Johanna Lindsey is one of the world's most popular authors of historical romance.

Johanna's books span the various eras of history, including books set in the Middle Ages, the American "Old West" and the popular Regency England-Scotland. She has even written a few sci-fi romances. By far the most popular among her books are the stories about the Malory-Anderson Family, a Regency England saga.

Johanna Lindsey died on Oct. 27, 2019 in Nashua, N.H. She was 67.

Even on a brainless level, this was bad. Mostly, I was just so bored. The tension was pitifully weak, and completely hinged on external forces.

Let me back up and give you a brief overview: Lincoln falls in love with Melissa at first sight, and visa versa. The trouble is she has 16 uncles who don't like him because of something he did when he was 10. It was largely a misunderstanding, but they think he's crazy because he wouldn't stop fighting him even when he was beaten to a bloody pulp. No one even questions how crazy it is for 16 men and boys to all gang up on a single 10-year-old boy, but anyway...they won't let their niece marry someone who might go crazy and hurt her.

The premise was weak. The characters were weak. The over-the-top love at first sight thing was weak. It was barely a romance because it was more about him gaining approval from her family than it was about the two falling in love, which they did within five minutes of first meeting one another.

There was little to actively hate. It was just so completely uninteresting.

I don't recommend.

The plot doesn't focus too much on the romance of the H/h since they fell in love at first sight. The title is quite apt. The book is about the H trying to court/pursue the heroine, but obstacles, like 16 overprotective uncles, get in the way. It was an okay read but probably not a book I would reread.

When Melissa MacGregor and Lincoln Ross Burnett met they knew they were distined to be together. When Lincoln found out Melissa was having a season in London he was quite happy with the idea because he was to be a chaperone to his cousin for the season and he was sure they would meet pretty fast at one of the venues - but it didn't quite happen that way as Melissa was being sponsored by a Duchess and was moving in different circles to Lincoln. When they did eventually manage to meet they were quite happy to see each other and start their courting, that was until Melissa's uncle Ian MacFearson remembered Lincoln as their old neighbour who he and his brother's thought was crazy the last time they met which was 19 years ago. Small minded this lot, I did think it was a bit much to hold a 10 year boy responsible for his actions 19 years ago as if they would have any bearing on Lincoln today. Linc and Meli have an instant connection and both realize they are meant to be together. They are both relieved that the marriage hunting season is over so soon for them and that they will have an easy courtship..... Melissa Mac Gregor has to come out in the London Social scene. She's tried finding a husband in her homeland of Scotland, but with 17 uncles to vet the contenders, nobody came back for a second visit. On visiting her grandfather's estate, she meets Lincoln doing a visit in the area. Lincoln is visiting his birthplace for the first time in over 10 years and goes over to the neighboring estate for a "trip down memory lane", where he meets Melissa.

I think this was actually my second time thru this story, but Johanna Lindsey writes such good ones, its hard to take a break, the 2nd time thru as well. She always makes such enjoyable Scottsmen. They are charming to follow along. It would be good to read about Kimberly's brothers and how they fair with romance and marriage. A wildly romantic read. This is a lovely book about: the true love bond.....kismet.....fate.... and overcoming your past to claim your heart's desire. That Scottish Burr Is "verra" sexy. This is such a good book. The fact that the Main Characters Are in Love from the Moment they Lay eyes on each other and know they want no other.

"The Pursuit" is the story of Melissa and Lincoln.

One of the sweetest and funniest historicals out there!

Meet Melissa MacGregor, the only daughter to Kimberly and Lachlan and the apple of their eye. She reaches majority, and one afternoon near her lake meets Lincoln Ross Burnett, and they both lose their hearts to each other.
So it is love at first sight, the parents agree, what might be the problem you ask? Well, Kimberly's mother has 17 stepbrothers- the deadly MacFearsons, they all hate Lincoln due to a childhood rivalry, and would never let him marry their beloved niece. Or will they?

This was a comedy of errors, filled with humor, emotions and oh so MUCH love. Our main couple is not necessarily mature- both are at the verge of adulthood, and very much in love. They are impulsive, yet strong. We see it especially in the way the hero deals with his mother and past, and the heroine's manipulation of her relatives. That being said, what makes this story worth reading is the antics of the crazy uncles, and the ever sweet love between Melissa and Lachlan. The uncles brawling reminded me very much of the Mallory-Andersons- which is BTW my favorite of the JL series and books- and they definitely make this book what it is- a fun read. The couple had to fight hard for their approval- but instead of running away they stayed back and faced the music. There is mild angst, some drama, a slow romance, culminating in a HEA.

I can honestly say I normally love a group of highland brothers but I didn’t love this group. They were rowdy, rude, irrational and sometimes stupid all while saying poor Lincoln was the crazy one. The audacity of these fools.

When Melissa and Lincoln have a chance meeting in the highlands their insta-love is sparked and they know they are meant to be. I’m not one for insta-love but this worked for me!

Downside, Melissa is related to a band of highland brutes (not in a good way) who think it’s their duty to “protect”her. When these 16 brothers realize Melissa is in love with a man they knew years ago and they hate him they make the young couple’s lives miserable.

A lovely ending to the Sherring Cross series. Lincoln and Melissa were a sweet couple, and their story was interesting. The book was filled with a lot of emotion.
However, I was often annoyed by her uncles constantly meddling in their lives, and later by her father, who kept them apart. Nearly half of the book had the protagonists separated, which affected the overall flow of the story.
I would have liked more romance and passion between them.

*Reread Review*
I'm going to say 4.5-5 stars just because I still like the first book in this series the best.. but this one is a very close 2nd lol. The story of this one is amazing with all the events adding up to now. I love the MMC, Lincoln, in this book. I feel like he is the perfect MMC for this story. Honestly we spend most of the story in Lincoln's POV so I feel a lot closer to him than I did the FMC, Melissa. This is actually pretty rare in a Johanna Lindsey book. I actually can't think of one other.. not to say that there isn't another but off the top of my head I can't think of one. This effected me as a reader because I honestly don't feel near as close to Melissa.

I totally went with the audio for this off Audible Escape.. only for the reason that it stars a bunch of Scots lol. I made the mistake in book 2 of not going audio when I could have which had it in the forefront of my mind when I went to read this one lol. The audio was ok, the narrator did good on the Scottish brogue.. I do wish the brogue was a little heavier maybe? Anyway it didn't disappoint really.

Melissa, our FMC, is off to London for her first season only to meet Lincoln our MMC practically on the way. The attraction is instant and looks to be one of the easiest courtships of the season, since Lincoln immediately seeks out our beloved Lachlan to stake a claim and ask permission. The only problem are the 17 uncles standing in the way. The children of the legendary McFearson just so happen to be Melissa's uncles, and they have a past with Lincoln that instantly puts him as unacceptable. Melissa won't change her mind however and Lincoln is determined to put his past behind him and run through any obstacles that are in the way to Melissa..

This story has a lot of depth with all the past catching up to all the characters. I still enjoy it after all these years!

I just didn't like this one. The Hero, Lincoln, whilst visiting his former home in Scotland, comes across the heroine, Melissa, who is with some of her family, and without knowing her at all starts thinking how to set her up in a cottage as his mistress.

He mentions her to his family in passing later that day and they immediately start planning their wedding. So he decides to go find her and propose. It's just plain silly.

Then comes all the angst of 19 years (the time he's been away from Scotland)worth of problems with his mother and Melissa's uncles, some of whom are his childhood friends until the 'big split'.

I just really didn't care what happened to any of the characters and would of been happy for them all to keep fighting to the death.

Lincoln Burnett is on a trip back to his homeland of Scotland. While on a ride, (also as an effort to avoid his mother), he encounters Melissa MacGregor by a pond. She is in the company of what Lincoln thinks is her husband and their two children. Once he finds out that the man is her uncle and the children are his, that switched his game plan to "ON". He found her a bit forward and incredibly attractive.

Melissa is equally attracted to Lincoln and since she is due to have her season in London, she is ecstatic that Lincoln will be her suitor.

But Lincoln is having some big problems getting to see her. He calls on her but is turned away at the door because he doesn't have an invitation. But his biggest problem is her sixteen uncles who are overprotective and have a history with him that isn't pleasant. They thwart his every advance and sometimes in the most sinister (and comical) of ways.

He has to find favor not only with Melissa's parents but all of these uncles, too. It seems to be an impossible task but he is tenacious. Melissa is just as frustrated as Lincoln is and just as determined. She wants to marry him.

This story has a few plot twists and surprises that kept me reading. The writing was strong; the characters and the story were endearing. I loved everything about this book. There was nothing bad about it. It's a good, clean romance of an era when romances were romances.

Read a 2nd time 1/21/2011

In the 2nd Sherring Cross - Love me Forever- Kimberly and Lachlan marry and have a daughter, Melissa. This is her story.

Lincoln Ross Burnett is hoping to face his mother and put his bitterness behind him before he marries. He is 29 and going to be his cousin Edith's chaperone for her coming out and he will do his own wife hunting as well. Only he cannot forgive his mother. She sent him away from his home when he was 10 and this is the first time in 19 years he has returned to Scotland. He has been living with in England and becomes his Uncle's heir since they only had a daughter.

Melissa MacGregor is heading to the London season with her godmother, Megan St. James. While at the pond by her grandpa's with her Uncle and cousins she meets Lincoln and there is an instant connection for both of them. The following day Lincoln goes to Lachlan and asks to court his daughter and that he plans on marrying her. He gets the blessing to do so while they are both in London. It seems like the simplest courtship. It might have been if Uncle Ian Six did not recognize Lincoln from their childhood and soon all 16 MacFearson Uncle's came to London to warn Lincoln from seeing their niece.

Between being shanghai'd, accused of being crazy, eloping, lake dragons and many more adventures their courtship is anything but easy.

This was a wildly intriguing novel. Lindsey took us for a number of spins. I couldn’t even start to guess where it was going to end at any point in time. It was suspenseful, but without the usual danger accompanying that suspense. The solid storyline definitely sparked my interest throughout and kept me on my toes.

The main characters in this novel were quite unique. I don’t think I’ve ever seen quite this approach in a historical romance. I loved getting to know them so well. Their histories added to who they are today, even if it wasn’t always in a positive manner. They were a joy to get to know.

I definitely had some issues with the uncles. They were developed as a single entity, with few of them having any bearing outside of this. For a while there it was really starting to feel like the entire premise of the story had changed to ‘we were wrong, we actually started the whole thing, but we don’t care, we’re still getting our way even though it’s none of our business.’ Needless to say, they got on my nerves (and those of most of the characters) throughout the novel. Fortunately the rest of the cast & the original (and at times quite comical) storyline outshone this.

As a whole, the various elements of this story combined into an enjoyable reading experience for me. It wasn’t my favourite of Lindsey’s novels, but it was still a good read.

I consider myself a person who can read anything from Johanna Lindsey and be absolutely happy but this book... This book was so frustratingly annoying!
The whole story was based on one crazy situation that happened 19 years ago. The characters brought it up again and again, used it as the most stupidest reason to stop relationship between Lincoln and Melissa. And when I thought the only one sane person, Lachlan, would put an end to this insanity after his arrival, I was proved otherwise, because that absurd circle started anew.

When Melissa MacGregor meets Lincoln, she knows they're meant to marry. Unfortunately, an incident in Lincoln's past has set all 16 of her uncles against him.

This wasn't a very enjoyable book. While Melissa and Lincoln are sweet together, they hardly interact. Instead, there's too much emphasis on her uncles and their feud with Lincoln. It gets to be uncomfortable to read, with so much abuse heaped on him.

I was thrilled at the thought of reading more about The Macgregor's after Love Me forever.

I truly enjoyed the previous two and was all set to enjoy this one, but I simply could not get into it. There was just not enough interaction between Melissa and Lincoln.

There is huge bad review for this novel. I did admit, all the attention seemed to be focused on her 16 uncles.
But I do loved Johanna Lindsey. This novel not her best but not her worst, either.

As soon as I finish a JL book I ask myself the same question, "why did I ley myself read that?" Just another cliché Johanna Lindsey writing. The characters were forced, the story plot dragged on and on, and more than once I skimmed the filler writing and went straight to the dialogue. 400 pages read and I am more than happy to lay this book to rest.

The Pursuit is the first Johanna Lindsey book I've read (and of course it's third in a trilogy), and it definitely surpassed expectations. I was initially wary, although I am not sure why, but I ended up having a lot of fun reading this.

The Pursuit was a light and fluffy read, with some interesting twists and turns to keep it going. The characters were cute. The story was cute. It made for a pleasant change of pace to have characters that liked each other right away, rather than ones who were at each other's throat.

I would recommend this for anyone looking for a light historical romance read. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to read another Johanna Lindsey novel.

I am really surprised but this story just didn't grab my attention. I was really disappointed because there had never been a Johanna Lindsey book I haven't loved. The relationship between the two characters just seemed to fast I mean way to fast even for a Johanna Lindsey historical romance, and the whole he may turn crazy again just didn't work for me. I am giving it 2.5 stars which is upsetting because as I said Johanna Lindsey's romances are always usually 4.0 to 4.5 star reads for me.

It felt like Johanna wanted to continue this series, but did not have much ideas for it. It really felt like the story was dragging on without much happening, and at the end she realised how many pages she has already written, and decided that she should end it, so in the end a lot of things happened, but they were all very boring. The book was overall very predictable, and there were bits where I wished the storyline would go differently such as when Lincoln was put on the boat to Chine, I whished that he would end up in China, and see how their love would last for those years, and how they would reconnect, or when she went "insane" and how long it would take for Linc to nurse her back to health. But, these didn't happen, as miracously, the captain of the ship, was his friend, and only took him to France, from where he could easily return in a few day, or when Linc only said two things to Melissa and she was healed in a second. Very unrealistic and boring. We alse lost some characters whose story could have been interesting, but Lindsey, thought otherwise.
