Maggie Conroy is your average city girl. She has good girlfriends, a whole lot of education and a crappy job that comes complete with the boss from hell, aka, Cruella La Bitch. Thank goodness it’s not only what you know but also who you know.
Her life turns darn near perfect when her billionaire cousin, Belmont Lord, pulls some strings, which lands her the job of her life. But there’s one problem. She knows her new boss, Vincent Adams, from high school. He’s the one that convinced her crush and his best friend, Robert Tango, to ignore her and never act on their blossoming attraction for each other.
Now the boys are successful men and business partners—and neither will rest until he possesses Maggie for himself.
Z.L. Arkadie is stepping into a new era of emotionally rich, upmarket romance that sweeps you away and thrills your heart in the best possible way. Her upcoming stories promise the kind of passion, longing, and intensity that pull you out of the everyday and into something unforgettable. For readers who crave stories that ache, soar, and stay with you—this is where it begins.
It was all one giant eye-roll. The writing was extremely choppy and really hard to follow at times. It was as if when the story went from the author's head to the page a lot of little details went missing. Everything probably made perfect sense inside her head, on paper, not so much. The characters felt flat. Like they were trying waaaay too hard to be quirky and flawed, so they could be relatable and adorable. Instead, everything felt forced and plastic. Maggie was so flaky that it got annoying really early on. And did she seriously fall in love with Vincent after 3 days of having sex? Especially when she didn't really like him very much to begin with. I'm not a big insta-love fan, so that bit knocked my opinion of this book way down. And why was Robert even in this book at all? He was painfully unnecessary. He didn't create any indecision at all , so there wasn't even a love triangle. Not really. Plus, the engagement would have been drama enough if the author had squeezed its full potential out of it. Everything was underdeveloped and half-finished, like it was a rushed story. And let's not forget that Vincent lied to Maggie just to get laid (forgetting to mention a fiancee is no small thing). And who on earth would buy the whole 'I've been in love with you for the last 12 years, even though all that happened between us was that we passed each-other in a hallway'. They hadn't even spoken to each-other! C'mon! Summing up: I didn't really like this book.
Maggie and Vincent WOW Talk about Vincent being the sappy one when all along I would think it was Maggie. Nope. The thing is that Vincent has had a crush on her since high school and yet Maggie does not even remember him. So yeah I think Vincent is lovable and a sappy guy.
I like Maggie. I think her character is written well. She's not clingy, whiny a fragile and doormat kind of female. She's all the opposite and I like her spirit where she's totally cool within being mean unless provoked. Plus I love her cousins Jack and Charlie. Yeah so happy to see Jack and Daisy all married and pregnant. As for Charlie I like him and I can't wait to read about him and Monroe.
Now overall, story is the right length doesn't drag on about the relationship. Even though Vincent was in a situation I thought was going to be teary and really pull and emotional angst towards him but no. But WOW the sex between Vincent and Maggie, yeah....HOT.
My rating for this book is a 4.50 This author has a slight twist in her writing style, that really adds to the enjoyment of the book. I liked how she kept Belmont and Daisy story going in this book, as I really like those two as a couple. This time the main character is Belmont's cousin, Maggie. Maggie is a career woman in NYC and is enjoying a love affair with a former high school classmate Vincent. Vincent just happens to be her new boss. At first, Maggie does not know Vincent is engaged. I was surprised she allowed Vincent to continue to make advances once she discovered his secret. I found the love story between Maggie and Vincent more realistic than that of Belmont and Daisy. Though, Belmont and Daisy are a more charismatic couple. I found Maggie's advise to Belmont on his wife's unexpected pregnancy very insightful. It is those type of conversations, the author does such a good job in telling. You feel like you are part of the conversation. The author included an added bonus with a love interest for Maggie's other cousin, the fun-loving, party boy, Charles.I sure hope the next book in this series will be Charlie and Monroe's story.
Not as bad as “Find Her, Keep Her” but still lacking. Daisy and Belmont return with their nauseatingly constant kissing.
Belmont secures Maggie a management position at a media corporation, where Vincent who has had a crush on Maggie since her brief stay at his high school is the president. She’s enjoying her new role and seems very intelligent and I like her professionally, however when it comes to Vince she’s too weak and accepting. They’re on a business trip in Aspen and get caught in a snow storm for a few days. The time is spent having sex and he doesn’t have the audacity to tell her that he’s engaged. She’s hurt that he didn’t tell her but still on their trip to the airport she allows him to ravish her in the backseat of the cab. WTF!!! The story continues with him trying to get out of his engagement while sexing Maggie in between
Still no relationship and lots of sex. I don’t feel the characters. They claim to love each other but there’s no emotion.
I enjoyed this book, when reading I was hoping for more information on Belmont and Daisy, I think I would have preferred a second book about these characters as I dont think they were fully explored, rather than a few sentences about them in this story. This book didnt really capture my attention like the first did.
I'm not usually one for a boss manipulating his position to get the "girl of his dreams" to work for/with him, but I've got to say that there was something about HIM, that made me fall for Vincent Adams. Perhaps it was the peeks inside his head but nonetheless Vincent Adams made me believe that guys can want and yearn for a relationship too.
I read the whole thing (on PlayBooks) even though I really didn't want to. I do not recommend this book to anyone.
This book felt all over the place and it, once or twice, read like there were time jumps but there weren't which was confusing.
I had to remind myself these were adults and not children at times because it felt overly immature.
My biggest WTF moment was when I read "he lifts up my arms and makes out with my armpits." Plural, made out with both pits? Why? My note just says "what the fuck", enough said I guess.
In quite a few places there are words missing and things misspelled, not a good thing when I'm already not enjoying a book.
I applaud the author for choosing different words, even if they're sometimes not the best fit. It takes courage to try new vocabulary. I also appreciate the limit on swearing. It shows promise in the writing to avoid it while so many use it to excess. Sadly, the characters seemed superficial to me. It was despicable of Vincent to behave as he did without telling Maggie the truth beforehand. Her acquiescence to him after knowing the truth made her weak in the face of her resolve to avoid him. There's room for growth with this author to write a more in-depth novel. It would be intriguing to know if Z.L. does.
I've been getting a bit fussy over books just lately, too much gratuitous sex, appalling grammar, etc etc. But not this one! I was grabbed from the beginning by the sassy heroine Maggie. Probably because we seem to share a line in put-downers. She reminded me of myself but in a younger, more beautiful way.
Vincent has secretly been in love with Maggie since high school and now chance gives him a way of making her notice him at last.
This a sexy, sassy, funny book that fits in the series but can be read alone.
Magnolia Conroy, Maggie works for a marketing firm as an under associate. Her boss is a nasty woman. At Jack and Daisy`s wedding Jack is disappointed that Maggie can’t join them on the reception cruise. She explains the deadline set by her demanding boss to Jack Lord. Jack asks a few questions and calls her back later with a new job at A&Rt.
The first day she sees an old high school friend Vincent Adams. Vincent always interfered with he high school crush Robert Tango. Now Vincent is making a play for Maggie.
A contemporary romance that features a brilliant girl-next-door, Maggie Conroy, and handsome entrepreneur Vincent Adams. They cross paths at her cousin Jack's wedding to Daisy, but she doesn't even notice him except to assume he is watching one of best friends.
When the pair meet at her new job, sparks ignite, but there are complications involved. Will they get together or will other people stop at nothing to destroy a budding love?
Something about the progression of their love story bothers me. Was it that she fell in love so fast after barely remembering the man whom she met 12 years ago? Was it because he didn't end his other relationship fast enough for me? Was there not enough sexy scenes? Did I not fancy the main guy myself? I'm not sure.
I do appreciate that there was a happy ending, that there was no abuse and that it was a good length for me.
If you enjoy humor, steam, tongue in cheek situations then this one is for you. I read the first book in this series because of the negative reviews and was pleasantly surprised and that led to me reading book 2 of the series and I am glad I did. What is reading romance if the premise is not far fetched and we can lose ourselves from reality for an hour or two. Grab this one and indulge your curiosity 4 Stars from me.
This is the second book in the Love in the USA series, but you don't have to read it in order. Loved Maggie and Vincent's story, and I thoroughly enjoyed Maggie kicking ass at her new job. And the little twist with her ex boss, I couldn't help but get a little "take that' ex boss. 2 characters from Book 1 story continues in book 2, which I love. Again, it's just a little bonus, and it's not needed to read this series in order. The romance between Maggie and Vincent is also hot and spicy.
I really like this author’s characters. They are fun, witty, and sassy. However, some of the descriptive words she uses during sex scenes really take me out of the story. “Poke me with his penis” is one. I just don’t know if I can read more books by this author due to this. It just takes me too much out of the story.
This book is the first time I've read anything by this author. I was happily surprised. Little machinations going on by Mr. Vince. Totally an alpha dude. Career professionals that anyone can relate to. Loved all the characters. Cruella La Bitch even got her 15 minutes of fame. Recommend this book to everyone. Now I must read another of Z.L. Senator's books!
I love Maggie, she's a really great character and I got really sucked into following what she got up to in this book. It's great that the characters from the first book make an appearance in this book, it makes things feel comfortable while moving forwards. I enjoyed seeing where this story fitted into the the whole world already set up. I can't wait to see where it goes next.
The book information says it's a Charlie story with a sprinkling of Jack/Daisy and Maggie/Vince. It really is Maggie/Vince with a sprinkle if Charlie. For me it was a rushed storyline to get the two together and turned blah. Robert is a jerk, Monroe is funny, Jack swoops in when he's needed. Not a book for me but not a bad book either.
I really really tried to at least read a couple of chapters, but I don't like the writing style of the author. It's the second book of her that I tried and it's the same with the first one. Never finished one of them. It is almost like a fifteen year old girl has written them. Change or adjust the language in The books is my advice.
Actually, this is the first work of Z.L. Arkadie I've read... I have no idea that this book was in a series, that's why I finished it first than find her, keep her. Had the chance to read this book as it was posted in google play books for FREE. Thankyou, author. It's worth the time to read your books. Congratulations!
It started off nice. Then it turned all weird. I somehow find Maggie and Vincent weird. In less than a month, they meet, fall in fuck, think it's forever. Vince breaks off his engagement and gets a mega investor all in less than a few weeks. Meanwhile Maggie doesn't mind the attention of his handsy friend, she does nothing to stop his handsyness. Weird. The writing feels disjointed.
Vincent and Maggie are going after the whole package. However, I have to say that he is unavailable for the taking. Maggie is feisty and is forever putting him in his place, which I found super funny. Like I said quirky.
A strange book, for me. I read it straight through, not unfamiliar to me, yet I really wasn't thrilled with it. Too many people playing too many games, guess I am glad not to live in the big bad city.
Really cheesy and not at all realistic (The pace was really fast and they "fell in love" way too fast. It was lust plain and simple). I'm not sure why I finished it, other than my curiosity of how it would end got the better of me.
Pretty much the same storyline as 50 Shades. Didn’t understand the main character’s appeal, did enjoy her career development but found her personality to be quite bland until the end. Still could not put the book down for some reason, I did enjoy it overall.
This story annoyed me so much! Maggie became such a pushover with no sense of self-worth and continued to let herself be used by Vincent who was engaged, indecisive and had no backbone. They fell in love so fast and it made no sense. I was expecting so much more from this.
