Emmet Fox was a New Thought spiritual leader of the early 20th century, famous for his large Divine Science church services held in New York City during the Depression.
Emmet Fox is always my "go to" guy for practical wisdom that is timeless. I have read several of his other books and they are all stellar. This book is no exception. Examples of Fox's wisdom include, "God never hurries, why should you?" and my favorite, "If you are minding someone else's business, you are not minding your own," or the more spiritual,"Never forget that you owe no duty to any teacher, any church, any center, or anything except your own Indwelling Christ." In other words, don't pay homage and put people on that pedestal. It's all within. Fox's most famous book(I've studied it) is "The Sermon on the Mount" that is now used in AA groups everywhere. I love all his books; his simple yet profound teachings are just as valuable today as when they were written years ago! His writings help one live an inspired life. Highly recommended!
I found this book very randomly one day in a moment of complete dispair. May I repeat, it was a random find in a box given to me by my mom... in one of my darkest moments. She had never even seen it before and had no idea how it had gotten there. It is a book of little essays regarding some basic principles of getting to know your inner self and connecting with your spiritual nature. It was very helpful in my time of need and I hope that others may find is as useful as I did. I see only a few have read it on here. It was originally published 1942.
One of the greatest New Thought authors, Emmet Fox, has written many wonderful books, including Find and Use Your Inner Power. This book is not a book like most of this author's other books, however. This book is a collection of short compositions that are meant to be read one at a time so that the reader gives time to pause and reflect on the meaning. This book is thought provoking and inspiring.
This is a great little book, filled with a lot of big ideas. Inspirational and very uplifting, the author is Christ centered, with a meteaphysical twist, the author is pretty authentic with his wisdom and teachings. It is simple to read, and the lessons are all only one page long. Every bit of wisdom that leads you closer to God is worth reading.
Whatever might be going on in my life, within the pages of this book, I’ve been able to find the way through the situation. It’s a simple solution to what I’ve always managed to complicate. E.F. helped me find a way to my own spiritual path.
When people presented their problems to Dr Fox, he would often say, “Use the ‘Presence Card.'”
THE PRESENCE By Dr Emmet Fox
God is the only Presence and the only Power. God is fully present here with me, now. God is the only real Presence – all the rest is but shadow. God is perfect Good, and God is the cause only of perfect Good. God never sends sickness, trouble, accident, temptation, nor death itself; nor does He authorize these things. We bring them upon ourselves by our own wrong thinking.
I am Divine Spirit. I am the child of God. In God I live and move and have my being; so I have not fear. I am surrounded by the Peace of God and all is well. I am not afraid of people; I am not afraid of things; I am not afraid of circumstances; I am not afraid of myself; for God is with me. The Peace of God fills my soul, and I have no fear. I dwell in the Presence of God, and no fear can touch me. I am not afraid of the past; I am not afraid of the present; I am not afraid for the future; for God is with me. The Eternal God is my dwelling place and underneath are the everlasting arms. Nothing can ever touch me but the direct action of God Himself, and God is Love.
God is Life; I understand that and I express it. God is Truth; I understand that and I express it. God is Divine Love; I understand that and I express it. I send out thoughts of love and peace and healing to the whole universe: to all trees and plants and growing things, to all beasts and birds and fishes, and to every man, woman and child on earth, without any distinction. If anyone has ever injured me or done me any kind of harm, I fully and freely forgive him now, and the thing is done forever. I cast the burden of resentment upon the Christ within; and I go free.
God is Infinite Wisdom, and that Wisdom is mine. That Wisdom leads and guides me; so I shall not make mistakes. Christ in me is a lamp unto my feet. God is Infinite Life, and that Life is my supply; so I shall want for nothing. God created me and He sustains me. Divine Love has foreseen everything, and provided for everything. One Mind, One Power, One Principle. One God, One Law, One Element. Closer is He than breathing, nearer than hands and feet.
I am Divine Sprit, the Child of God, and in the presence of God I dwell forever.
Emmet Fox has become my morning meditation. Though he wrote in the 1930's, his insight into prayer as treatment continues to be fresh and effective. Amazingly enough, his insight is apparent in Eckhart tolle's work. Both identity the solution to mankind's struggles as being fully aware of the here and now and letting ones Higher Power take the lead. Both challenge us to escape the thoughts that so crowd our spiritual selves. Simple but not easy.
One of the most insightful and timeless accounts I've ever experienced (minus the hints of classism and cultural bias, from which most humans are not exempt). It's inspiring me to challenge my own being and look for more within myself.
I just randomly open this book in the morning and read a page of it every day. I love this book, it's smart and funny and it reminds me what is important...along with not to take everything too seriously
This is my fifth time reading this timeless book by the noted Dr. Fox and each time I walk away with nuggets of learning, inspiration and discovery. I have it on an annual read list and each year I expect to uncover some new thoughts and wisdom that will help me as a human and spiritual being.
A decent daily reading just to help you re-focus on where you put your thoughts and intentions. This is very spiritual - some might say borderline religious as there are quite a few references and quotes from the Bible.
I love Emmet Fox read this or one of his books every year. It always tickled me that Dr. Fox used the bible to demonstrate God's presence when he was anti-organized religion and always seemed to convey that organized religion got between truth seekers and divine guidance.
a great read, and a great go back to book for daily inspiration. even others in the household are picking up and reading it 'secretly'... what begins in the mind becomes clear an action.
One of the best spiritual books I have ever read. This book and around the year with Emmett fox are staples for me and have been for years. They are life changers.
