An account of the ordeal of Katie Beers describes how the ten-year-old girl was taken to the home of family friend John Esposito and imprisoned in a macabre underground cell he had built
Arthur Herzog III (April 6, 1927 – May 25, 2010) was an American novelist, non-fiction writer, and journalist, well known for his works of science fiction and true crime books. He was the son of songwriter Arthur Herzog, Jr..
His novels The Swarm and Orca have been made into films. His science fiction novel IQ 83 is being made into a film by Dreamworks.
Herzog was also the author of non-fiction books: The Church Trap is a critique of Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish church organization and institutions particularly in the U.S; 17 Days: The Katie Beers Story, is about the kidnapping and child sexual abuse of Katie Beers.
Not sure what the point of writing this book was. The author did it in such a way that it was very confusing, especially at first with all the people introduced. And in the end there was no resolution. What is the point of a true crime novel if there are no answers at the end? I've made myself a note not to read anymore true crime by this author.
I read / listened to this book in audio format via audible.com. I always choose audios over books as the narrators tend to breathe life into the stories. Audiobooks also allow us to read our favorite books and still get things donem work, walk, chores and long road trips!
This is a story about Katie Beers, a young girl who disappeared two days before her tenth birthday! This book tells us about her search and family history, along with the scary statistics from the FBI about kidnappings and pedophiles. Written more like a novel which is more interesting, rather than a non fiction, this book does a good job at information.
The author, Arthur Herzog III does a great job at writing this book in such a way to hold our interests. The plot is good, the suspense if fantastic! The narrator, Alex Hyde-White does a pretty good job delivering this book to us, although I did find several places in the narration where it repeated itself (like he started over again). Narration is a very difficult job and therefore I don't take any marks off for it. After all, we are all human and it wasn't too noticeable. This is still a 5 star read! Good job guys!
I give 17 days: The Katie Beers Story a clear full star rating. The author put tons of work into writing this amazing, jaw-dropping book. Though it has several long facts and details, it is worth a read.
