This was one interesting book. It was about a man who was a con artist his whole life and was also into the BDSM lifestyle. He became active in the online community of many BDSM websites. It was there that he would respond to ads some women would place about looking for a “master”. This was one aspect of this whole bizzare story that I founds very strange.

First of all, I had not heard much about BDSM before. It is a very bizzare lifestyle to have if you ask me. To each his own though so long as it is done willingly and no harm is inflicted I guess. Many of the women this man would meet chose to be his “slave” and were befriended by him for as long as 2 years before he would murder them and stuff them in barrels that were later found on his farm.

None of the women deserved what happened to them. Sadly though, a valuable lesson can be learned from this case. That lesson is for women everywhere to be careful when placing these online ads or responding to any of the ads themselves. This is especially true when responding to job ads. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Sadly, this is a lesson the women in this book will never get the opportunity to learn.

John Robinson is a disgusting puke. He lured many women online to his house for a "job".. or aka as they knew it, BDSM relationship. None told their families why they were moving to Kansas City, but that a man online was rich and promised them a job. These women would eventually be found dead by Robinson on several of his properties. A sick, sadistic man, Robinson is a true predator.

I like True Crime, and this certainly wasn't the worst I've read. I'm shocked at how easily these young women allowed themselves to trust a stranger, I guess the internet removes barriers that we might normally keep in place much longer. I'm quite firmly opposed to the death penality, but every once in a while there comes a human being where I feel myself wavering, and John Robinson was one of them. The callous cruelty with which he treated helpless women, his willingness to financially profit from their death for many years after while their families were searching desperately for them, makes me believe that he is completely incapable of thinking about anyone else except himself.

I read this book because one of my best friends from high school was Suzette Trouten, the last woman we know he murdered. Suzette would have been 45 this month and she should be married with children and possibly grandchildren instead of ashes. This killer treated these women like they were garbage; when he was done with them he just killed them instead of telling them to get lost. He doesn't deserve to still be breathing. Suzette and I hadn't seen much of each other in the years leading up to her death, but we had reconnected right before she left for Kansas. The book gave me some insight into the lifestyle she was living, which ultimately led to her death. She was too trusting for a world full of predators.
