A woman on the run...and the man she runs into. Winner of a Romance Writers of America RITA® Award, STEP INTO MY PARLOR has it all–romance, suspense, and laugh-out-loud humor. Sensual.
What do you do when you’re in jeopardy and running for your life and your last hope lands you in Houston on a cold, windy night with only sixty-three cents to your name and a friend who doesn’t answer her phone? Anne Foxworth Jennings finds a pawnshop to hock her watch for food and a place to sleep. But instead of the safe haven she was looking for, she feels as if she’s fallen into a rabbit hole. The place is crammed full with a bizarre collection of items ranging from fine china to a riding lawn mower and from a stuffed monkey to a live, chatty myna bird. When Anne encounters the Pawn Parlor’s owner, Spider Webb, a rough-looking ex-pro football player who oozes sex-appeal designed to blister the polish on any woman’s toenails, she considers bolting. But to where? She’s at the end of her rope. And then things become dreadfully more complicated.
Is she crazy to cast her lot with Spider Webb? Can Anne trust a total stranger with her life?
Anne is on the run from her step-brother and ends up getting mugged outside Spider's pawn shop right after she pawned her watch. After weeks on the run, it was too much for Anne and she was extremely lucky that Spider is a stand up kind of guy. He takes her in, gives her a job and they of course fall for each other while waiting for her friend/lawyer to get back into town. Spider has a white knight complex and was a bit over-protective, but an all around sweet ex-football player.
would have been a five but I didn't care for the overly paranoid Anne. from the moment she met spider she trusted him enough to sleep in his home but not enough to at least tell him the whole truth. for a character so smart she sure took her time. even with the hiccup (and really it was minuscule) I would highly recommend this book to read.
Anne is on the run from her stepbrother a very evil man. She walks into a pawn shop and her life is changed forever. When she meets the pawn shop owner spider he I'd not what he seems to be. He looks like this really hot bad boy but turns out to be her knight in shinning armor. I want tell you anymore but to read this book if you get a chance. This is a very good romance book.
Spider's the kind of alpha male who isn't an overbearing, cynical jerk. Anne's character is nicely developed. The editing is clean and the prose easy to read. This book was better than I expected, a nice surprise.
This book was very entertaining. I guess the first edition had editing problems, but has been fixed with this edition. I enjoyed both characters in this light hearted romance.
