Always a Bridesmaid

Rate this book

Cynical single gal Larissa has been to too many weddings. Nonetheless, when her friend Malena asks her to be a bridesmaid, she’s a good sport, despite the floor-length aqua satin nightmare she’s made to wear.

Larissa has given up on the idea of ever walking down the aisle herself. These days, her idea of a perfect Saturday night is more likely to involve wine and on-demand movies than high heels and a push-up bra.

Enter Mark, the bride’s sexy single brother who sees something special in Larissa. Mark, the one man who has Larissa considering breaking her “no wedding hookups” rule. But will they share a night of fun or something more? With plenty of champagne and the blissful romance of a wedding, true love might just blossom.

At first I thought this short story might be some kind of tie-in to the rom com, "The Wedding Confession." Both involve a veterinarian who lives in a different city semi-hooking up with an office worker at a wedding where the FMC is a snarky bridesmaid wearing a hideous dress. But, no, different authors, different character names. I liked the beginning of this one but the immediate transformation from meet-cute to "we're soul mates I want a serious relationship with you" was just too much.

How to fall in love at a wedding must have tingling all over, same taste in beer not necessary, don’t have to live in same town and one of you have to truly believe in love forever.
For a short book it has all the right ingredients and was witty.
Enjoy

Always a Bridesmaid

Always a Bridesmaid was a fun and enjoyable read, making it a great choice to close out my reading year. Light, charming, and easy to get into, it delivered exactly what I was looking for in a feel-good romance. A satisfying last book of the year!

Short story about two people who meet at a wedding (bridesmaid and brother of the bride). Will it be a quick hookup or something more?

Nope. Pass on this one. I appreciate it’s a novella but it shouldn’t be. There is no chemistry, character development, or real plot.

Skip it.

After standing up in six weddings over two years, Jack is done. Until his best friend Trey calls with good news ~ and informs Jack that he'll be a best man once again. Jack can't say no to Trey, and readies himself for the usual traditions. While being very happy for his friends, Jack is also a bit sad that he is alone and wants the same kind of happiness for himself. Trey and his fiance Sherrie are determined to keep their wedding small, so there will be only one person on each side for the bridal party. Jack is in for quite a surprise when he meets Morgan who will be standing up on the bride's side.

I really enjoyed this story of a guy who is always a groomsman and never a groom. Or at least that's the way it has always looked for Jack. This is a witty and enjoyable story with great characters and a wonderful setting. Based in Chicago, there are several details within the story that will delight anyone familiar with this glorious city. Aiden and Morgan are comfortable together from the minute they meet but there's one major obstacle standing in their way, distance. Over the course of a few days they get to know one another quite well and the attraction is there from the get go. This story is really just the beginning for them, and I really hope we get to see more of these characters in the future. There is a quick two sentence HEA ending, but I personally think there's a lot more for these characters to say. This is definitely a wonderful story that I enjoyed quite a bit.

Jack has been in a 756 weddings (more or less) and can't find love himself. He agrees one more time for his best friend Trey. They are kind of vague about the maid of honor Morgan. Turns out the maid of honor is a guy and cute and gay. They have a real connection but live in completely different parts of the country but they decide to give it a try. A nice little story and you could feel the attraction between the two guys.

A fun short read. This would be a great little novella to read on the beach or even if you just need a break from work.
