Clementine Creek #4.5

Christmas in Kiwi Country

Rate this book
Having a heart attack was the best thing that could have happened to me. With my new lease on life, I prioritized reconnecting with my daughter. But I wasn’t in her small, Tennessee town for five minutes before getting swept up in a blonde bombshell with sass for days. Wooing Gwen Slate after being a bachelor for twenty years was easy. Opening myself to love and being loved in return? That was something else entirely. I didn’t know life could be like this - filled with love and respect and fun . But I know a good thing when I see it and I’m not going to let Gwen get away. Christmas in New Zealand seems like the perfect way to show her we’re meant to be forever. A beautiful setting, a beautiful woman and one chance to ask the question that will change our lives forever.

I was privileged to received this ARC and oh look, it’s another Alexandra Hale book that gave me all the happy squee feels!

It made me so happy to see into the relationship between Isla’s dad Cullen and Gwen. Cullen is so smooth and one hot daddy. The attraction they have for each other is serious couples goals. To see them being older than most romance books couples but still be in the excited “honeymoon” phase of their relationship where they can’t keep their hands off each is still adorable and so good to see especially after they both went through a divorce.

I love that this novella was written because it continues to build up the world of Clementine Creek and let’s us learn more about the people who live in it. I am always looking forward to seeing what Alexandra writes next!!

“𝑆𝑡𝑎𝑦 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑚𝑒.” 𝐺𝑤𝑒𝑛’𝑠 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑠 𝑝𝑢𝑙𝑙 𝑚𝑒 𝑏𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡, ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑒𝑦𝑒𝑠 𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑔𝑎𝑧𝑒 𝑢𝑝 𝑎𝑡 𝑚𝑒. “𝑈𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑙 𝑚𝑦 𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡ℎ.”

Cullen and Gwen were both left behind by the other parent of their respective children. They spent their days dedicated to being both parents in one way or another. Now it’s time they heal and get their happily ever after.

Honestly, this story was everything they deserved and more. Cullen is just the sweetest human being who means well in every aspect of life despite his previous shortcomings as a father. And Gwen, is this pillar of strength Cullen needs to move on from his past, to be happy, and not let an evil wench have a hold on him any longer.

Gwen’s personality alone is like one big warm hug. But the two of them together are just so comforting and heartwarming that, even though it makes you tear up, you will want to read them over and over again.

While this book is spicy, I did enjoy the way these particular scenes were written kind of at a step back compared to the rest of the series. I loved that for two reasons:
1) I think it would have deterred from the plot otherwise.
2) Throughout the series the reader grows to love them as parental figures. We don’t really need graphic details about their shenanigans.
3) It was classy and matched them perfectly.

So if you need a little holiday spirit in your life, I’d absolutely recommend picking up this quick novella. (available on KU, too!)

I loved this third novella in the Clementine Creek series, focused on Cullen (Isla's father) and Gwen (Cheyenne's mother). Getting to read the love story of two adults of the 'older' generation in the story (parents of adult children) was really sweet and I loved this second chance for them. I really appreciate that the Author is answering all the questions re supporting characters through the use of novellas a every one has added so much depth to the overall story.

I am SO excited to read Sorren & Rhea's story 😍 I have been waiting patiently and now can't wait to see how their love plays out.

When a health crisis forces him to reevaluate his priorities, Cullen Andrews realizes that he's let too much of his life pass him by while he buried himself in work. He decides to retire and move to the small town of Clementine Creek, Tennessee to be closer to his daughter Isla and her soon-to-be husband, Hank. His main concern is repairing his relationship with his daughter, but when he meets local boutique owner Gwen Slate, he can't help being immediately smitten. A year later, Cullen plans to take girlfriend Gwen on her dream trip to New Zealand, where they'll celebrate Christmas together, just the two of them. He also hopes to ask her a very special question while they're there...

I don't know how she does it, but Alexandra Hale's stories just keep getting better! I adored this charming novella, which was the perfect quick afternoon read for Christmas in July or anytime. Cullen and Gwen were a wonderful couple; I particularly appreciated how open and honest they were with each other, as well as the way Gwen helped Cullen work through the baggage of his past. I finished their story with a huge smile on my face and know I will be reading it again soon.

I highly recommend "Christmas in Kiwi Country" for all contemporary romance fans and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Loved this surprise extension to the series, and how Alexandra Hale showed just how wonderful love could be when you find it later on - and how it's so much better in many wonderful ways. Cullen and Gwen had the love of a lifetime and I loved how we got an extra story about Hank and Isla too. 5 lipstick moment stars!

What a great novella! Later in life couple. I loved to follow how they were able to build their relationship foundation and support each and help them with parts of their past that was holding them back. This was a great sweet story with no breakups. If your looking for a fun read with some travel this is a great easy read.

Arc Review: Christmas In Kiwi Country

By: Alexandra Hale

5⭐️

Alexandra Hale does it again!!! This novella is everything from sweet, some spice, and the perfect Happily Ever After!! This was such a fun surprise to go back to Clementine Creek that we all adore, and fall in love with another couple, but an older couple Cullen and Gwen!

Gwen and Cullen are definitely the couple you want to be when you grow up. It’s a beautiful thing when you can fall in love with that special someone later in life.

I want to go to New Zealand because of this book it sounds breathtaking and magical!

We can never forget about the group text messages…they are still my favorite! Hilarious and will never get old!

Thank you so much Alexandra for the Arc of Christmas In Kiwi Country

4.5⭐️

This novella was like a warm hug, I just loved everything about it.

This follows Cullen and Gwen. Cullen is Isla’s father (from book 2) and Gwen is the mother of Cheyenne (friend of the Thayer women). Cullen meets Gwen when he moves to Clementine Creek to repair his relationship with his daughter. The story begins with Cullen and Gwen meeting and then moves a year ahead to their established relationship. It ends with Cullen taking Gwen on her dream vacation to New Zealand.

What I loved about this book:
*I loved that Cullen and Gwen were mature characters, they both had awful past marriages and didn’t think they would find love again, their love story was just so sweet. I believed the love story from the beginning.
*This book was spicy too! Alexandra always brings the spice and this book is no different!
*I loved that Cullen really was trying to reconcile the man he used to be to the man he was becoming in retirement, and how Gwen understood that and gave him the space to become the man he was meant to be. It is such a great accomplishment by Alexandra to be able to tell that part of the story well in a novella.
*I loved loved loved seeing Isla and Hank, there book has been my favorite in this series so anytime I get a bit more of their story I am happy! Seeing Hank take care of his pregnant wife just made me swoon.
*The group text messages! The girls and the guys of Clementine Creek have text chains and they make me smile so big. Even in a short book like this one, we still get a glimpse of all of the previous characters.
*Ms. Thelma! She is a side character in these books, but she is feisty and even though she is mentioned in this book because of a gift she gives Gwen and not much else, it leaves an impression. I want to be Ms. Thelma when I grow up!

If you need a little Christmas in July then you need to pick up this one! This sweet novella is out today!!!!

And if you haven’t already, you need to read the whole Clementine Creek series, it’s sweet and spicy with all the swoon!

Clementine Creek coming in clutch.

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Christmas on Kiwi Country, by Alexandra Hale (@authoralexandrahale ) is the sweetest novella. I love that it is a little unexpected because our main couple this time is older.

Cullen (Isla’s dad) and Gwen (Cheyenne’s mom) are full of children, untraditional families, and a whole lot of love. They are the couple you see and can’t help but smile. They are the couple you hope to be when you’re older. They are the couple you want you’re parents to be/ get that happy sad you wish your parents were.

Bonus, they go to New Zealand! I don’t know if it’s me, but Nee Zealand just seems magical, peaceful, and like it’s got it’s shit together.

The best part of reading this book for me was that I was able to focus some and remember a lot. I’ve recently had a hard time reading at all and when I do I have to start over again and again and I’ve still retained nothing. So, Alexandra Hale, I’m talking directly to you when I say, thank you from the entirety of my heart and black hole soul, thank you for being the writer and person you are. The magic of the whole Clementine Creek series has kept me going and given me hope when I thought I had none left. The characters, the world, you words, and the pieces of you in each and every book has saved me at my worst and made me smile at my best. In the stylings of

I absolutely adored this! I already love the Clementine Creek series but to have one set in my home country was a fun twist I wasn’t expecting.

It was a rather strange experience for me as I live in Auckland, used to live outside of Paihia, and have visited a few of the places mentioned in their trip! I’m always nervous reading how an American portrays my country but Alexandra hit the mark perfectly! Even down to the correct terms of sausage sizzle, chilly bins, sauce and soft drinks! That scene had me absolutely giggling as I read it and made me have food fomo 😂

I loved getting to know more about Gwen and Cullen, especially when he was likened to Sam Elliot! 🥵 They seemed to really compliment each other and Gwen was such a soothing character to read. I loved how emotional Cullen got over his family, old and new, and it just made the story so enjoyable!

If you’ve read my other reviews for this series, you’ve probably seen how much I LOVE the group text threads! It’s a piece of the series I always look forward and never fails to have me laughing out loud over their ridiculous banter. I’m so glad that Cullen and Gwen were included in the chats 😂

Overall this was a sweet and fun novella that gave me plenty to giggle over and dropped just enough of a bomb at the end to make me wonder what the heck will happen next book! I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who loves small town romance, found family, and fun banter because it’s got all of that in spades!

After a life-changing heart attack, Cullen follows his daughter’s footsteps to the small Tennessee town of Clementine Creek, determined to reconnect and embrace his second chance at life. What he doesn’t expect is to be swept off his feet almost instantly by Gwen Slate, the gorgeous and sassy owner of the local clothing boutique. Their attraction is undeniable, and after decades of living as solo parents, it’s both heartwarming and refreshing to see two people find love later in life.

Gwen and Cullen’s romance is remarkably sweet with just the right dash of spice. Cullen is an unapologetic flirt who knows exactly what he wants—and isn’t afraid to say it. The way he speaks to Gwen is charming, confident, and utterly romantic, and I found myself grinning every time he opened his mouth.

One of the standout elements of this novella is how Alexandra Hale weaves New Zealand into the story. As a fellow New Zealander, she uses Māori terms and captures the essence of the country with genuine affection. From the landscape to the houses and even the people, everything felt authentic and lovingly portrayed. Her deep appreciation for our culture and home shines through on every page.

This is a short, uplifting, and feel-good read that blends small-town charm, later-in-life romance, and a beautiful holiday setting. It was exactly the warmhearted escape I needed, and it reminded me why I enjoy returning to Alexandra Hale’s books.

Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (0-5) I bump up for public places. 🤭

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 I’m absolutely smitten with the whole Clementine Creek series. It’s small-town Tennessee and all the country boys and girls are oh so loving. They work hard, play harder, and treat each other right.
🤩 HEAs all around—interconnected standalones. This one is a more mature couple, parents of two previous MCs: Gwen is Cheyenne’s Mom (from Loving it Country—the free newsletter novella found here https://dl.bookfunnel.com/oz8tva0fyk or in the author’s IG profile links). Cullen is Isla’s Dad (from Making it Country).
🤩 Gwen and Cullen are sweet and oh so hot!!
🤩 All the feels, even in a novella. I even had tears from so much family (real and found) love and care. The text chats always steal the show for some comedic relief!!
🤩 Such a great combination of time in Clementine Creek and time on a New Zealand adventure.
🤩 These beautiful characters are each getting another shot at love. Swipe for favorite highlights as teasers.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 I sensed a promise of a mile high club type scene and didn’t get one, just saying. 😜

"Cullen savors me like an expensive bottle of brandy. His palate is refined, and it shows in the way he builds me up higher than I ever knew was possible."

When Alexandra announced that this little novella was about Cullen and Gwen I was so excited. I have loved the little snippets of them her readers have gotten so far and a novella focusing solely on them....count me in!!!!!

These two could not be more opposite and perfect for each other at the same time. Cullen can be his new self around Gwen, she doesn't need his money...it doesn't matter to her. What she gets from him is his time. She is there with him as he is rebuilding his relationship with his daughter, Isla.

Watching the love between these two just continue to build was simply beautiful. Finding love later in life after both of them were burned previously shows that good things come to those who wait. There were so many touching and emotional parts of this story for me. There is one particular part that is 100% real life for so many people and Alexandra legit had me in tears at 4am when I read it. Every single word used at that part of the book was beautifully written in her usual style...flawless and heartfelt.

I do have to say she threw a nice little surprise in there at the end that I was not expecting ONE BIT and now....we wait for Sorren's story!

Christmas in Kiwi Country by Alexandra Hale is a heartwarming novella that brings joy, love, and a touch of spice to the holiday season. This story follows Cullen, a charming and smooth-talking man who, after a life-changing heart attack, finds himself reconnecting with his daughter in the small town of Wintervale. There, he meets Gwen, a strong and sassy woman who challenges him in all the right ways. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their journey from initial attraction to deep love is both touching and steamy.

What makes this novella stand out is its portrayal of mature love. Cullen and Gwen, both having experienced the pain of past relationships, find solace and passion in each other. Their dynamic is refreshing and real, showing that love can blossom at any age. The setting of Wintervale adds to the charm, with its cozy atmosphere and close-knit community.

Alexandra Hale masterfully blends humor, emotion, and heat in this story. The writing is engaging, the characters are well-developed, and the romance is swoon-worthy. Whether you're a fan of the Clementine Creek series or new to Alexandra Hale's work, this novella is a delightful read that will leave you with a smile on your face and warmth in your heart.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a festive, feel-good romance with depth and spice!

I am obsessed with these novellas in this series. Christmas in Kiwi Country is a Clementine Creek novella. We have met both of these wonderful characters in previous books and I was excited to read their story.

Cullen is Islas dad and has recently had a heart attack. He is now reevaluating his life. He wants to make the changes necessary to get close with his daughter again. After moving to Clementine creek he is doing just that. He meets his daughters friends mom Gwen their chemistry is instant.

I love that this is a later in life love, we get so few of these and I always find them so wholesome and sweet. I absolutely loved Cullen. He was gentlemanly and such a sweetheart. It was clear that he was really an amazing man just fighting through past traumas.

Gwen is one character I was excited to see more of. She has been through a similar terrible ex situation and she really just spread her love all over that town. She is the exact person that Cullen needed then and his perfect match.

The group chats are one of my favorites in this series and I love that Alexandra included them in this as well.

While this could be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading the others first.

Overall a great read and I am now I am desperately waiting for Sorren.

This was such a sweet, feel good read. If you need a book to just make you smile, no drama, no third act, this is your book. Alexandra was sure to give us more of the characters we love, the banter we all appreciate, and the family dynamic that makes us laugh and melts our hearts.

Cullen and Gwen meet after Cullen moves to Clementine Creek to be closer to his daughter, Isla. He had a heart attack which was the wake-up call he needed that gave him and his daughter a second chance to strengthen their relationship. Gwen is a single mom who owns her own business in town. We get to see bits and pieces of them in previous books in the Clementine Creek Series but it’s nice to learn more about them personally.

Gwen gives Cullen the confidence to forgive himself for his past and move forward. Both Gwen and Cullen learn to appreciate what they have with each other and be thankful for this chance at love later in life.

Alexandra gives us a little mystery to segue into Sorren’s book. I can’t wait!

🎄Christmas in Kiwi Country 🎄
By: @authoralexandrahale

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We headed back to Clementine Creek for the sweetest, most swoon worth Holiday Novella. Plus, this one had the added bonus of traveling to New Zealand.

This novella followed Cullen (Isla’s father) and Gwen (Cheyenne’s mama). These two were so sweet and had been alone for years as they focused on raising their children following broken marriages and dreams. I loved that they not only found love, but helped each other realize that they were worthy of love. This is a great story that shows that no matter how old you are, it’s never too late to start over!

I really enjoyed this one as it reminded me of my Mother-in-Law who has recently remarried and seems so happy now!

We are nearing the end of the Clementine Creek era. 😩 This one drops tomorrow! Read it to be ready for Sorren’s book (the last one in this series) in September.

These books are like coming home! This is a series that I always look forward to when a new book is coming out, because Clementine Creek never disappoints!! This book was Gwen and Cullen’s story. Gwen is Cheyenne’s mom and Cullen is Isla’s dad. Cullen had a heart attack and decided he needed to make some life changes and moved to Clementine to be closers to Isla.

Well, while he has been in Clementine Cullen met Gwen through Isla and they had an instant connection. These two are cutest! He is such a gentleman and Gwen is able to bring out the best in him! Cullen is a family man and you could see how much he loves his family. It is always fun to learn about more of the characters that see little blips of.

I like how the characters are intertwined within each book. We got to see more of Hank and Isla in this book!

I can’t wait to see what Alexandra has in store for us next!!

I have loved Clementine Creek since I first discovered this small town late last year & this book was no exception. We get to see inside the love life of Cullen, the father of Isla from book 1.

Cullen & Gwen both tried to find love earlier in life and even though it did not last, they both got the gift of a daughter out of it. Now they have found love later in life & it is such a great story. Cullen is an absolutely sweetheart who wants to take Gwen on her dream vacation to New Zealand for Christmas.

We also get a bit of an extra story around Hank & Isla too! Such a great Christmas in July novella.

Honestly I think I needed it a lot more than I realized until I was reading it. Sometimes you need those books that just make you smile and this was it. Cullen has decided he needs a change in his life. After a scare he makes the decision to move closer to his daughter Isla and just enjoy everything. Upon getting to Clementine Creek he meets Gwen and these two have a beautiful relationship that truly starts as friends and then to so much more. Gwen has only ever had her daughter, Cheyenne but having lived in Clementine Creek her friends have become family and that includes the Thayer family. As she enjoys the beauty that comes with spending time with Cullen they learn the joys of getting a second chance at love.

A beautiful story that wraps you in a hug the whole time you read it.

What I love about AH is that she can write about any couple and does them justice. I really enjoy the atmosphere and the town that AH has created. It is so sweet and fun to see the other characters pop in and interact in the background of the story.

CULLEN AND GWEN. These two were everything. Sweet and the spice, good lord. A cute fun novella in the ever wonderful, growing Clementine Creek Series. Check out this sweet novella for a Christmas in July fix on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited!

This was a sweet & steamy holiday, later in life romance novella I didn’t know I needed!
Cullen and Gwen are a great couple navigating life after divorce and his heart attack. Cullen is rethinking his life and moves to the small town of Clementine Creek to be closer to his daughter. He ends up falling for his daughter’s friend’s mother (Gwen), and the story moves ahead to a year later showing them going on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New Zealand. Not much drama or angst, which was a refreshing change. Lots of fun family banter and I loved how the author took us on the romantic NZ adventure with these two. Now I want to go there!
If you need an escape, this is a quick read that will totally remove you from reality and leave you feeling good!

What a cute quick novella, it was so light and fun. I loved how sweet the couple was and actually enjoyed this older matured version of a couple. They are so adorable together and the scenes with their family and friends are a delight. Cullen’s nickname for read is just dreamy and the reason behind was even cuter. I liked how they made each other happy and blended well with their own families coming together as one. It’s so great that they found their one true love after all they’ve both been through. I love the authors small town books it’s so much fun to read and I laughed so much especially during their group chats. Oh and that ending wow I’m waiting for the next book to know more.

This novella is part of the Clementine Creek series, focusing on secondary characters Cullen and Gwen (parent of Isla and Clementine, respectively). I always appreciate learning more about a series, and how everything ties in.

While Cullen has some pretty big guilt about how he parented Isla (or didn't), Gwen has a small business in town and is just the kind of woman Cullen didn't know he needed. She definitely needs Cullen's romantic heart!! It was easy to connect with the emotions here, and I enjoyed the heartfelt exchanges between them.

I recommend reading this one to deepen your understanding and connection to all things Clementine Creek! It's quick, easy to read, and I can't wait to read more from this talented author.

This novella is a perfect addition to the Clementine Creek Series!

It features Cullen and Gwen, our favorite older couple experiencing their new love together.

This read focuses on two characters that have lived vastly different lives and overcome their own hardships. Together, they learn acceptance, forgiveness and love for both themselves and each other.

The author gives them a life with dreams fulfilled, with sweet love, and sensual loving! The author also gives the reader a small indication that the next book in the series is sure to be an exciting one!

A definite gem of an addition to this wonderful series.

I first met Cullen by reference in Say Yule Stay, so it was a lot of fun to circle back and actually meet him properly!

Second chance romances always make me so soft because who doesn't like to see someone finally get their happy ending after horrible relationship pasts? Gwen and Cullen were so sweet together and fit together so well.

Some parts of the story did seem to stall a little or felt a bit repetitive. There were a couple times that I felt like I was reading something very similar to something else earlier I the story, and it made the book feel longer than it actually was.

Christmas in Kiwi Country was still a great, happy read and perfect for cozy, found family vibes!

Alexandra just keeps on giving me all kinds of feels with the Clementine Creek series.
I loved how you took a chance on writing about a couple that is older and divorced, showing that you can find your one true love later.
Watching Gwen and Cullen take it slow and fall in love was heartwarming.
And of course it couldn’t be Clementine Creek without everyone else.
Circling back to Isla and Hank and their pregnancy and babies, and how it was bringing Isla closer to father.
I can’t get enough of this series.

Thank you Alexandra for trusting me with this arc for my honest review.

I was honoured to receive an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review

I really loved this book. This book was a refreshing read. The characters were 'older' they both had their own baggage and grown children. This is a lovely story of finding love again later in life and discovering new friends and how to take it easier. As an older couple they showed their emotions in different ways so instead of constantly saying 'I LOVE YOU' they did little things for each other and to these characters they were known as lipstick 💄 💋moments.

Definitely would recommend this lovely book.

These novellas about the side characters stories have been fantastic.

Gwyn and Cullen are looking for happiness later in life. Both have different backgrounds that brought them together in Clementine Creek. You read their story about when they first met, then it picks up in Chapter 1 a year later. You get to see Isla, Cheyenne and their husbands as well throughout the book. The family texts always make me giggle just because of the dynamic.

Christmas in Kiwi Country, is a fantastic read and i highly recommend you reading this.
