Frankenstein

Rate this book

Dr. Frankenstein learns the secret to giving life to inanimate matter. To test his theories, he collects bones from the tombs to construct a "human" being, and then gives it life. The creature, endowed with supernatural size and strength, is revolting to look at, and frightens all who see it. Lonely and miserable, it comes to hate its creator. This tale of terror has been a world favorite since it was first published in 1818. Mary Shelley's original novel is not only a masterwork of horror, but it's also considered to be one of the earliest science fiction stories ever written. Beautifully illustrated, this classic, comic graphic novel captures the imagination of readers of all ages.

The main less of this story is science should stop playing around with certain things or else they will raise major problems. In this case a scientist (who works alone) creates a monster instead of a regular functional human being. The monster wants him to make another monster, a woman, for him and the scientist refuses, setting in motion a years-long battle between the two, the monster vowing r revenge on the scientist, killing his new wife on the night they are married.

There's a young child that gets murdered an an innocent woman gets hung for the crime. Again, another aspect of the lesson not to try to make artificial life.

Frankenstein is a monster and people flee from it which reinforces the idea that looks equal worthiness.

The scientist tries to run away from the monster and I think that's the that you can never totally escape the evil that you do to others.

I think its a pretty good, moralistic story.

This is a more than decent adaptation though still short of capturing the philosophical nuances and emotional complexities of the dark and tragic Mary Shelley classic. But the graphics do capture Dr. Frankenstein's torment, his flight, anguish and meltdown, as also the torture his creation is undergoing. A powerful graphic novel that evokes horror and amazement - some highly memorable images.

So... every adaptation of this story is completely incorrect...

Cause he just decided to create life for shits and giggles and was then astonished to learn there would be consequences...

And the creature is the most eloquent 1 year old ever.

Okay.

Impressive!

Terrific rendition of a classic. I'm impressed by the literary style AND all the extras included, both background and The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.
