Gardening enthusiasts will be inspired by this series of garden design books from more than 50 of America's best gardeners, landscape architects, horticulturists, and nursery owners. They'll discover a wealth of information on everything from planting perennial borders and garden rooms to landscape layout and gardening in harmony with nature. Creating Beds and Borders features design concepts for mixed borders, and techniques for selecting plants, pruning perennials, and starting plants from seed.
I chose this book when I saw it was written by contributors to Fine Gardening magazine. Lots of variety in the articles: planting design, techniques, colors, tools, you name it and it's there. So it's a great overview of many things.
A great gardening book written by multiple authors in different locales and with different garden styles to give the reader a multitude of ideas in garden designs and plants. Great pictures show the different styles. The plants are named scientifically and commonly for easy identification. This book held my interest the whole time and I learned quite a bit.
This book is fairly informative with regard to the basics of creating a mixed perennial border. There are better examples from a visual perspective, though.
