Rate this book
A dangerous experiment turned Sam Wilson into a winged super-soldier. His transformation also had an unexpected side an erotic sensitivity more intense than he could have ever imagined. As Sam struggles to make a difference on the front lines, and to come to terms with his new form, he also finds himself torn between two men. Can Sam confess his feelings to his best friend and long-time crush – or will he fall under the spell of the brilliant but twisted scientist who wants to explore everything Sam’s new body can do? Sam Wilson is a soldier who wants to be useful, and when an option comes up to volunteer for a super-human experiment, he jumps on that. Next thing Sam knows, he's got a pair of wings and they're having an effect on his social life he wasn't expecting.

Give him the ability to fly? Check. Give him the ability to aid his team in ways he couldn't before? Check.

Wings extraordinarily sensitive and the slightest touch gets him aroused to the point of begging?

Also check.

Sam's major conflict in the book revolves around an unrequited crush on his best friend Jon (who innocently keeps touching his wings in all the right ways), and the good Doctor (who touches them all in the right ways on purpose). What's a super soldier to do?

Take advantage and have lots of sex, seems to be the answer.

Confession time: this is probably my first brush with erotica, which I had to remind myself on occasion. (And certainly not a bad book for my first brush with the genre.)

Normally with standard romance novels, it's around 70-30 plot to sex ratio, but with this book it's more like a solid 50-50 if you don't count flirting and cute things in between. Perfectly normal for erotica, but still a little head-tilting for someone not used to it. I can name at least two times where a sex-related scene would pop up and my response was "Wait, again!?"

Keep in mind though, that's not a detriment to the book. It's erotica, which means that's expected by regular readers of the genre, and I'm only mentioning it in case you're like me, and are trying out something new.

But I'm not sure why I'm still talking about that, when we can get back to the other half the book: Sam and his Wing Problems. Or rather, his Wingman problems.

There's a lot of good stuff in here from Sam's transformation, to how it affects his relationships and his job. Having issues with his weapon's training after wings was a nice touch, and of course the wings could hurt as easily as feel good.

Sam connected well with his two major co-stars, the catty Doctor, and of course the lovable pup Jon. These two love interests foiled each other well, and were quite the tease and conflict for Sam's emotions.

It was enjoyable, and everyone had real chemistry with each other.

The book also had some humor to it, which I always enjoy. My particular favorite moment, would have to be between the Doctor and Sam about mid-way through:

"So, Doc--It seems like my balance is still off."
"I'm not surprised. It's a common side effect of hearing loss."
Sam had panicked slightly. "I got hearing loss?"
"Oh, don't you?" Doctor had angrily scrawled a last note on the clipboard and snapped his pen closed. "Then I have to assume that you heard me tell you not to leave Science Division!"

I laughed. It was just such a smart and catty remark--and it sums up the more likable side of a character who tends to lean toward the creepy side of things.

Speaking, if I had one hold up with the book, it was probably the ending. It leaves off at a good spot, and the right place for a 'happy' ending--but it left me wondering about Doctor. Ah well, I guess there's always room for a sequel.

Overall: It was a good book. Nice short read with a bit of everything: Romance, science, great cast, and even some real action there at the end.

Check it out if you're up for some wing action.
