Poet, sailor and expert on a kind of duck, George Devis is visiting his sister and her country singer boyfriend on their refugee project in famine-struck Ethiopia. As he leaves for England with their two small sons, armed bandits attack the settlement and the couple are murdered. As Devis digs beneath the surface of events, he discovers that there is more to the murders than random violence. He has found a chain of hypocrisy and dirty dealing that stretches all the way across the Atlantic into the holiday homes and boatyards of Maine....

Clawhammer is a great read. Well written, manageable cast of characters who hold surprises for the reader, well developed settings, and a plot that holds a surprise in every chapter. Across between a mystery and an adventure thriller, the book manages to hold the reader's interest throughout the book: a page turner late into the night.
