Review:
The writing style flows smoothly and defines the characters very clearly through their words and actions. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. I felt like I was right there in St.Pete and I sure did enjoy my visit.
The characters are well developed and well rounded. Darwin is a hardworking fun loving woman who cares about people and animals very much. With her special “ability” she is more attuned to animals than most. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, especially when the animal has been traumatized. But she does what she can to help the animals. I enjoyed spending time with Darwin and her friends, especially Sylvia and Frankie. They are some wild women.
The mystery was well plotted and carried on well throughout the book. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider and it was not easily solved. That is how I like my mysteries.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well written cozy mystery. And if you like animals with your cozies, then this book and series is for you. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this fun series.
Darwin, a woman with some paranormal powers, owns a pet boutique in Florida. When a champion golden retriever’s person is killed in a deliberate hit and run, Darwin adopts Goldie, since the victim’s ex doesn’t want the dog. Things get complicated when there is another murder, a mystery involving a native artifact, and Darwin deciding to use her powers on her boyfriend. Three and a half stars.
I like Darwin and her sisters and friends. Will is a bit annoying with his closed mind and the possible love triangle with Zach is worse.
Darwin ends up adopting a dog who she and Will rescued from the water. Goldie's owner was killed in a hit and run and she escaped. Darwin investigates and her sister Willow comes for a visit. The villain was obvious to me long before Darwin, but still interesting.
While Will and Darwin are out on a boat for the wedding of one of his coworkers, a dog is discovered in the ocean. Will goes out on a lifeboat to get the dog which turns out to be a Golden Retriever. Darwin gets a scene from the dog that involves bright light. When they get back to shore a body is discovered that is a victim from an apparent hit and run. The Golden Retriever belonged to the victim and Darwin is pulled into the mystery once again. When they find the name of the victim and go to speak to her husband, he doesn't want the dog, Goldie, and Darwin is considered as an adopter. Darwin's sister, Willow, comes for a visit and checks out a sacred Native American site which seems to be involved in the woman's death somehow.
This is a wonderful series. I was hooked from the beginning reading each book without reading anything else.
A great read. Loved the plot and the nice twist at the end. Really didn't see that coming. Nice to see her relationship with Will is back on an even keep but will Zach give her up that easily? When Will pulls a dog out of the water she gets a vision of a black car and someone standing over the the owner's body. Then he gets called to a hit and run. Nobody connects the two until the vet treating the dog gives her the owners name. Ancient burial mounds, old relics, another murder, Will's father having a heart attack, Zach invading her dreams, a attempt to run her down, telling Will about her water powers and an unscheduled visit from her other sister are all woven into a plot of greed and love. Can they find the killer?
Hit and run, strange goings-on at a native American burial mound
Walking her dog, the woman was hit by a vehicle and her precious show dog knocked into the bay with no way to reach shore. Darwin and company rescue the dog and set out to learn what is going on.
This is a complex story, told well for the most part (despite many typos and grammatical errors) and with enough twists that you just might berate yourself for not having figured it out sooner than you did.
Highly recommended for those who like to see justice served.
I really appreciate that the book starts with the murder. It draws you right into the story. The murder investigation was pretty good as were the mystic elements. I really liked the mound and what all happened there. One of the minor explanations was just silly in my mind but the rest was good.
I liked the characters but the sister didn’t seem different enough to be someone who was mad for Darwin leaving home. She played a good role in this though. I also don’t understand why the sisters have regular names when the MC’s name is Darwin.
I love Will and the situation with him really upset me. It doesn’t matter how small or big a thing it was, doing something to someone physically when they didn’t know about it and therefore couldn’t give consent is not okay. It’s violating and not just something to move past. They needed to have a real discussion about why it wasn’t okay first because the way they left it, it came across that she was right.
Someone who heard about it talked about giving an aspirin to someone but the person asked how was it different than ecstasy. She said it was intent. That would have been a good thing to say in a discussion with him about it. She needed to see his point of view though. Mine is that it was absolutely not okay. It’s was violating in more ways than one. People need to grieve but more than that, they need to trust the person.
I think the author was trying to be supportive of Native Americans by having the victim finding an artifact to give to someone trying to get those tribal items into museums. I’m pretty sure the Natuve Americans don’t want them in museums either. Regardless, right now, we need to return those things to the First Nations themselves immediately. Having it private a little while longer is not okay. You never know what will happen to it.
I still love this series. It ended with one of those cliffhangers that’s a story arc spreading across multiple books. I’m really worried about it and want to see what happens next. I have to read the next one soon!
The reader. Stephanie Einstein, was very good. Her Texan was accent is wonderful to my yankee ears. But there’s a character who should have a foreign accent by the way she speaks English and asks if she’s saying things right but the narrator had her speaking in a typical American voice. Still, Einstein’s inflection and intonation are excellent.
This story is about Goldie, a golden retriever and her owner who is killed in a hit and run accident. It is also about Indian artifacts and a pirate treasure map. Hunting for the driver of the car that killed Goodies owner, and the discovery of the illegal digging on an Indian burial mound keeps the reader wondering what is happening to happen next. Of course, the killer is the one least expected, who is looking for the pirate treasure.
I Love This series. The mysteries are involved, the investigations take the whole book to unravel, unlike some mysteries that go nowhere and find closure quickly at the end. Plus I really like the characters. They feel like good friends of mine and like I am part of the story, hanging around with the girls. Very enjoyable read.
Things are starting to heat up with a second love interest showing up from book 2. Treasures and pirates, oh my. I am starting to have serious doubts about her detective boyfriend. Hope she develops a backbone soon. She has gifts, he is uncomfortable with them and her. Second love interest seems to be more in tune with her and doesn't have issues with her nature. I am rooting for the jinn.
I just love the books that have animals in them. The story is a great murder mystery and what intelligent dogs they have in them. Goldie is a beautiful, loving, spoiled, intelligent dog. I would recommend this book to everyone. I can't wait to read book # 3
I really enjoyed this book. Dogs paranormal and magic all blended to make an excellent read. Darwin's sister comes to visit. Will and Darwin have a disagreement but the plot was engrossing, flowed well, was well thought out and kept the reader interested. Satisfying conclusion.
I don’t know why you get 1to 4stars this story is a wow. I love a mystery an was mystified at the ending very well written and I love dog stories rather it’s a cop k9 or a simple mystery . Beware when you read it will capture your love of books and animals
These books do get better as the series moves forward. Will say the author needs to STOP repeating the same line so often .... pod in the coffee maker is really getting old. The plot is simple but a fun QUICK read if you are between more weighty books.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Fun installment of the Pet Psychic series! Darwin Winters takes in another orphaned animal in this book: a golden retriever whose mother was killed in a hit and run. Darwin gets a psychic hit from Goldie and knows this was no accident, so she hunts for the killer with some help from her boyfriend and 2 family members who surprise her with a visit. It's a cute book, interesting mystery, and an overall great cozy mystery. I alternated between the book and the audiobook and I loved the narrator, as usual.
This is a cute, light read. I agonized over the rating, because it is a solid 3.5, hence the four star rating. I loved the dog, occasionally not so much the humans, but they are developing nicely. I read this as a kindle book, and there were some annoying editing issues, such as Landon became Brandon once, and some misplaced (or unnecessary) apostrophes, but that seems the plight of many ebooks. I can recommend this one, and I will most likely read more of this series.
Another must read for fans of the series. I think it would work fine as a stand alone too. My only complaint is that there is never enough of a certain hot cop! lol. Good plot that isn't too predictable. . It is probably a rereader so the score would go up then too. I can say now that it is definitely are reread and I enjoyed it as much this time as I did 6 years ago.
2014-02-03. In this one we get to meet her sister Willow. The mystery was good although parts a little more predictable. I'm loving all the friends she's made in St Pete. Enjoyable read. Can't wait for the next installment.
