I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.
I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.
I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.
Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.
I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.
Hero is a jerk. With shallow views. And double standards. And he's a jerk. BUT. Given all that. He's a loveable redeemable jerk. He snapped at the heroine for showing emotion in a MOC. Did I say he was a jerk? Well, he was a jerk. Yet he was completely lost and scared when she withdrew emotion. He was the one to give in to her and he was the one to show respect first. Even though he has double standards, even though he didn't approve her way of living (he is a jerk, just sayin’), he spelled it out that NOBODY had a right to treat her like a slut, and I pretty much forgave him for everything!
Poor little rich girl heroine has debilitating dyslexia, which she hides behind a facade of party-girl socialite. The hero is a bona fide playboy/executive/youngest son who must marry the h or lose a third of his shares in his family company. They have a history. The h tried to seduce him when she was 16 and he rejected her.
The author does a good job of describing the incredible stress of not being able to read in an increasingly technical world. The heroine is a talented artist, but doesn't feel she is "smart" enough to take classes and improve.
The hero ends up being the right man to uncover her secrets and find love in return. Just a sweet romance.
2 and a half stars rounded to 3. Promising at the beginning, but soon turned into the same overdone story of commitment-phobe H denying his feelings for poor, misunderstood, dyslexic h. Not my favourite trope this, and the characters had the same one dimensional personalities that I've come to dislike in contemporary Harlequins.
The Hs spend so much time wanting to 'live free' and continue with their playboy ways, that I find it hard to believe when they finally declare their love and willingness to commit after so many protestations- and so, I couldn't take to this H at all.
On the other hand, I thought I could like the h because at first, she was this unapologetic, spoilt, rich girl, with mercenary tendencies that set her apart from the other h's. Unfortunately, it was not to be. What I envisioned to be a story akin to "taming of the Shrew' soon turned into the usual boring damsel in distress act of countless other easily forgettable M&B novels and their hs.
This is the third and what I believe to be the final book in 'The Sabbatini Brothers' series. This book focuses on Nic, the youngest Sabbatini brother and Jade, who was his grandfather's friend's daughter. Jade's father has cut her off believing she chooses her partying ways and men over being a respectful young woman. That really isn't the case.
Jade does not have a good reputation...at all. She is known as a tart and everyone including Nic thinks she picks up men everywhere she goes to sex it up with them. Double standard that he does that very thing himself because he loves the act of sex...just not the women who give it to him, but finds it unacceptable for Jade to do the same. But we find out early on that this is just a persona she wears as a mask to cover her disability.
They end up marrying so that Nic and Jade can both collect the inheritance his grandfather left them. As Nic begins to see another side of Jade...he finds out that there is much more than meets the eye. So what will happen when their one-year marriage of convenience is over?
This was a pretty fair trilogy with 'The Wedding Charade' (rated 4) being my favorite. I would have marked it even higher if the author would have let us know if the hero was totally faithful to the woman he married when he had to leave and go on those trips before and after they were wed. On each one his wife worried that he was seeing his many mistresses. I could have used the truth of fidelity but was left to wonder. Second in line was 'The Unclaimed Baby' (rated 4 stars) which I liked a good bit but the hero was your typical jerk of an alpha. I had a struggle with 'One Last Night.' Again a hero that was a real a$$hat alpha who had already begun dating another woman though his divorce was in no way final. No, he didn't have sex with her-yet-he tells us but was caught in a compromising position in a photo that hit the newspapers. It looked much worse than it was but it caused the wife to finally give up hope and question if he cared for her at all. The gal he was dating also caused trouble for he and his wife. I was bothered that he couldn't wait until his divorce was finalized before striking up a new relationship with this model. It was insinuated that he was not rushing the divorce thinking his wife may come back to him then in the next sentence he informs his brother that he was no longer waiting and has moved on. I don't like it when the faithfulness and celibacy issues are not completely spelled out, especially if the heroine is thinking and wondering where her husband is and who he is with multiple times. The situations are not made clear in all three of these books and that was such a disappointment for this reader.
"At least she could count her partners on the fingers of half a hand"
I'm sorry but at the end of the book I'm still obsessing over that line. I bet the author didn't give it much thought, but really, these authors need to engage their brains a little bit more. What on earth does half a hand look like?
If you divide the hand horizontally, that means four fingers. If you divide the hand vertically that could mean 2 fingers. Obviously a thumb is a 'thumb' ...:p I hate it when things are left 'open' for interpretation. Don't be a wimp and just come out and commit to a number for God's sake.
Of the H the h thinks, 'He would have lost count by now, surely?'. That, for me, is a more acceptable statement than half a hand.
As that one like distracted me through out the book, I thought it was a 2.5 stars read, more than ok but not really like like. That is what my 3 stars mean to me. For an HP, it was better than a lot of others out there.
The supposed promiscuous h and the even more promiscuous H seem to make a good match and it whiled away a few hours. Well it did as I tried to work out what half a hand was.
This is the third and final installment to Melanie Milburne's 'The Sabbatini Brothers' mini-series (The first two books are 'Scandal: Unclaimed Love-Child' and 'Shock: One-Night Heir' respectively, both of which I have read). I think this is the best out of the bunch. Melanie Milburne is one of my favourite author's.
The male character, Nic, is your typical Italian Alpha-Male, loves his freedom and doesn't want to settle down anytime soon. Unfortunately, the details of his late Grandfather's will dictates that in order to claim his inheritance he must marry the daughter of a long time family friend, and stay married for a year. He and Jade, the female, character have known each other since childhood, and previously had an attraction to one another. Nic is disgusted at the thought of not only having to marry, but having to marry Jade, who's party-girl and, seemingly, loose lifestyle he doesn't approve of. Jade had struggled through her life with the loss of her mother and much loved brother, lack of affection from her father, as well as a severe learning difficulty she has kept to herself. Hiding behind the facade of outrageous and scandalous behaviour, she keeps her difficulties and lack of self confidence to herself. As their marriage progresses, Nic learns that there is a lot more to Jade than the front she presents to the world, and Jade has to battle against her growing feelings for Nic, knowing that this marriage is only temporary.
This was a really great book, I applaud Melanie for having a female character that was flawed and had a serious learning difficulty. Her difficulty with accepting herself was handled really well, and quite sad at times that I really felt empathy with the character. The chemistry between the characters is fantastic and the passion between them is hot! The only tiny gripe I have is that I found Nic's attitude towards Jade's supposed sexual promiscuity a little hypocritical, considering his own history, however this is made a joke out of in the story, and of course, what more could you expect from a typical Alpha-Male!
The book immediately grabbed my attention, and I actually finished it in one sitting!
This is the last book in Sabbatini brothers it was not as good as Luca n Giorgio's book but a nice read
Jade is a good woman but rejections from her father and Nic has changed her,Jade suffers from severe Dyslexia but he hides it from everyone and she also sleepwalks in night which further disgusts her father all these rejections and loneliness has changed Jade a lot,she lets press to potray her as a tart n gold digger who gives a damn about what other ppl think and lives her life as she wants but she is a total different person from inside losing her mother and brother was very hard for her and on top of that her father blames her for the brother's death and when she was 16 she had a crush on Nic and tries to seduce him but he rejects her badly which let's her to retaliate and she sleeps with Nic's best friend instead which she regrets a lot till today
Nic he let's everyone believe he is a carefree selfish person but he is also a lot sensitive and different man from inside
These both are thrown together by Salvatore who is Nic's granfather and Jade's godfather,he states in will that Nic will lose all the money if he does'nt married Jade and Jade will also lose her allowances if she does'nt marries Nic,so they decide to marry but only for 12 months and then take money an get on with their lives
But when they meet again and spend time together Nic realises Jade is a different person and very talented and they both understand each other and start falling for each other though they both keep pushing each other away and hide their feelings but they get their HEA in the end
Loved this story to pieces. It was fast paced with lots of firey and fiesty dialogue between Nic and Jade. They sizzled and crackled between each other and the sparks were flying left right and centre. I loved it, loved it, loved it!
Jade and Nic are forced to marry by a certain date due to Nic's grandfather's Will. Neither party particularly wants to honor this but if they dont Jade doesnt inherit the fortune she desperately needs and Nic loses a third of the Sabbatini fortune. Cutting it to the wire Jade marches and and demands Nic honour the will and plays up a desperate, party mad, money hungry gold digger to the hilt... after all it's what everyone thinks isnt it? Jade also uses the front to protect herself against her first teenage love. Little does everyone know Jade hides a very serious secret and uses the party mad front as a cover to disguise her secret.
Jade is my hero! She is smart, witty and sticks up for herself no matter what. She fights a fair battle and with Nic in her sights he doesnt stand a chance. Nic is delicious and I'm genuinly sad the Sabbatini Trilogy is over.
I don't know if it's just this particular series or if all Melanie Milburne books are like this (I desperately hope not!!) but this was another amazing book with an unsatisfactory ending.
The was everything was revealed at this end felt rushed and seemed to come out of nowhere which made it feel flat... This was such an amazing story as well! So well written and with such beautiful characters.
Even after the disappointment I still can't say I didn't love it. I did!! It was a wonderful experience reading this book honestly and I basked in the happy haze of ready a good book for hours afterwards.
I absolutely loved this book. I had reservations about reading such a small romance...I typically do not like the fast forward romance love at first sight crap. This however was not like that. Melanie Milburne has away of making it all flow and well just work. I was completely satisfied with Nic and Jade's relationship and was soo happy they found love by the end. This story left me smiling and anxious to get my hands on the next Sabbatini brother book.
love-hate situation.
In the third and final book of the Sabbatini Brothers Series by Melanie Milburne we meet the young, sexy and feisty Nic Sabbatini and the spunky "tart" Jade. Nic and Jade are old but not great family friends, who after a fall out have not spoken to each other in years.
See when Jade was 16 she came onto Nic hot, heavy and strong but he in no uncertain terms merely turned her down. She in turn vows to show him what he will be missing and turns into the ultimate party girl.
Years later Nic's grandfather has decided Nic and Jade are to get married in order for them both to inherit a large sum of money, Jade has no option but to face the insufferable Nic face to face, even though she knows facing him again will only bring back the painful memories and her love for him again.
So she confronts him,but Nic has his reasons for not wanting to marry this snobby "tart" after all she did sleep with is best friend and he finds her lifestyle totally disgusting. A woman who cant make her own money but instead relies on others whilst sleeping around and partying every night, just does not turn him on at all.
But Jade needs the money very desperately more than anyone knows and more than she is willing to reveal. Nic sees her as a money-grabbing, gold-digging, sleeps with any and every man kind of woman, and she sees him as the man she never should have fallen and exposed herself to.
But in the end Nic realises that he cant loose any part of the Sabbatini fortune and they do decide to marry for the sake of the money. But with the condition that Jade becomes a respectable lady as he does not want his wife to be flashed across newspapers leaving the homes of strange men.
Along the first weeks of their marriage Nic and Jade's attraction to each other builds and builds and finally erupts with the hot passion we have come to know from Melanie Milburne. But behind closed bedroom doors Nic discovers the real Jade, and he begins to understand why she pretends to be someone she is not.
Now it all comes down to if Nic will let Jade go after their arranged 1 year of marriage or will he fall as hard for her as she has for him from day one all those years ago?
In the final book of the Sabbatini Brothers Series Melanie Milburne shows us that not everything is as it seems and when you do not know the real person don't go judging them. The book compliments the first and second to down to a tee.
The entire series is one of hope, love, trust, true identity, secrets and pure passion.

This was the best of the series for me. Jade was a character I loved instantly because even though she grew up with wealth there was always something missing. She is severely dyslexic and has hidden it well for 26 years being ashamed of it. She allows her name to be smeared in the tabloids because she can't read the stuff to defend herself. Nic is the baby of the family but had to grow up after the loss of his infant sister in a broken family. He rebelled to get attention but all it brought was loneliness. One of my favorite quotes of all times fits Nic to a tee "Do you ever think that the people who find it tougher to say what they're feeling are the ones who feel things more intensely? As if they have to keep their defenses high, because they care too much and have too much to lose?" I loved the ending of this book because it ended so well a series I thoroughly enjoyed.
Writing was decent. Characters were portrayed as selfish, self-indulging and shallow idiots. He was a jerk, but at least he was aware of it and he knew what he wanted, and she was selfish, dumb as a doorknob little princes with self inflicting issues that she blamed on everyone else instead of using some common sense, correcting the wrongs and asking for help. Rude, arrogant and disrespectful, even though she demanded respect from everyone, as she belived she was entitled to it. This describes her nicely: “She gave him a mutinous scowl. ‘I am not going to kowtow to the cleaning staff just so they’ll be nice to me. I will do what I want.”
And then, just like someone waved magic wand, he is her life and she is his love, and all is forgiven and they lived happily ever after.... Blah This could have been so much better...
Jade Sommerville has always gotten under Nic Sabbatini's skin. Having a sixteen year-old Jade throw herself at him had been almost more than he could take. Turning her down and waiting for her to grow-up was even worse.
Jade has things to hide, and having the inheritance from her godfather, Nic's grandfather, would protect her for the rest of her life. Having to marry Nic was the only way to get it, but she was not going to wait for him.
Nic knew that Jade was keeping secrets. Finding out her's was his goal, but finding out she was the love of his life just made it better.
I loved this book! Jade had my respect and heart from the beginning. She is a heard-hearted "tart" according to the Press, and blackmails Nic into marrying her so they can both inherit money from Nic's grandfather. There is so much more to her as is revealed gradually throughout the story. Even though she struggled most of her life and her public persona is a thin shell, I consider her a strong woman because otherwise she would have collapsed under everything she's gone through.
