A WOMAN IN DESPERATE NEED OF RESCUE A deserted stretch of highway, a young woman stranded in a fancy car, and the sound of motorcycles in the black night....Tess Marsh's cross-country trip ends all too suddenly when Dallas Haynes finds her. From his sexy bedroom eyes to his black leather jacket and dusty jeans, he spells trouble, but so does the nasty-looking biker gang that surrounds them. Within minutes, Tess is on the back of Dallas's Harley, and at the mercy of a man who breaks through all of her defenses and makes her want him--good or bad, right or wrong.
AN UNLIKELY SAVIOR IN LEATHER AND JEANS Dallas's mission doesn't need another complication, yet from the moment he sees her he wants her with a rough, hungry passion that can hurt them both. Claiming her and abducting her is the only way to protect her from the gang. Then all hell breaks loose, and Dallas and Tess are on the run with no place to hide--except in each other's arms.

This book wasn't what I thought it would be about. The first half, the heroine, Tess, is held captive at a biker camp. I find her silly and naive to get her self in this situation, however I grew to like her as the book went on. I loved Dallas, the hero. He genuinely wants to help her. As he tries to get her to trust him, he falls for her along the way. The story takes a surprising turn--which I liked. There is also a very good HEA. 4 out of 5 stars because I was annoyed in the beginning.
Lone Rider was basically told in two different parts; in two very different kinds of life.
The first half we have the MC World with some nitty gritty bad men. They truly were evil incarnate. Tess meets Dallas during this time and is taken hostage by Dallas and his MC gang. Dallas does all he can to keep her safe from harm and they develop feelings for each other. In this portion, I liked that we didn't have to see too much of the nitty gritty up close and personal with the club. However, there were times I wanted to throat punch a few cast members with their actions to Tess.
In the second half of this story, we really get to meet more of Grey, and get to know him better. Tess goes through even more stress and misery and is never truly free to live her day to day life. Grey is dealing with his own stress and strains.
Will Tess ever be able to be free to love the man she really wants? Will she always be looking over her shoulder? Will anyone ever be the same again?
People, choices and life aren't always what they seem.
Note: I really liked this book. It was very different then regular MC books.I liked the two different parts of the story. My only complaint would be: In a way I felt it wrapped up too fast...maybe rushed a tiny bit? I could have done with a little more ending in the epilogue too.
I really enjoy Lauren Bach's books. But this one...I just couldn't stand the heroine! She didn't have TSTL (too stupid to live) moments, she herself was TSTL. This was her first release, so that's the ONLY reason I gave it four stars. It's really more like 3.5. I heartily recommend Slow Hands (her next book), but this one just got on my nerves!!
Tess is driving 1)alone, 2)in an unfamiliar area, 3)at night, and 4)daydreaming about her art instead of paying attention...when she runs out of gas! 5)AFTER being warned about no services available and lonely stretch of road! She's ?rescued? by a nice, sexy, leather-clad, biker dude. Then 5 minutes later, surrounded by a mean looking group of biker dudes, 6)she decides to fight the only one who looks like he might not rape her? And 7)continues to fight him even after she is held prisoner inside their compound? Does she not read? Who doesn't know it's best to try and make yourself human to your captors? Better the devil you know and all that. But she really never figures that out...instead she becomes attracted to her captor. They have 8)unprotected sex! after she's nearly killed 9)trying to run away after 10)going into the woods with a biker babe who hates her!
ARGH...I can't type anymore. Just remembering is ticking me off and making me remember how much I disliked this heroine.
The book had potential, it could have been great instead of just okay. What really made me not like it is that we have this twenty something independent, and strong woman, who again is twenty something and a virgin. Really? And the reason she is a virgin is due to waiting on Mr. Right. Now, where is this strong, independent woman? Because all I read about is a dang on whiner.. the girl was bad. She so quickly become obsessed with her kidnapper, that Mr. Right flew out the window, and she handed her V-Card over in a quick minute. All this time you have been holding on that virtue and look at you, you look pathetic! Either way, both characters fell short. The whole story fell short.
Wow, talk about someone disappearing off the face of the planet. I had no idea Ms. Bach hadn’t written a book since 2005 and no information is really available on her anymore on the Internet. Some friends mentioned her books to me, how well they liked her writing. So when I came across Lone Rider a couple of months ago, I set it out to read it, finally getting to it recently. Had no idea it would lead me into a search for author details that can’t be found. UPDATE: Discovered from a commenter here that she is now writing as Cate Noble.
Which is really too bad because Ms. Bach is quite a storyteller. A gripping storyline, strong characters, and villainous scum kept the story moving at a nice pace. This is one of those nightmare stories when the heroine is minding her own business, needing help on the highway, and the next thing she knows she’s been kidnapped by a gang of badass killers. The initial man who stopped is the one who protects her when possible, keeps the real nasties away from her as much as he can. Her fear is palpable every time the ring leader and his arrogant second hand even look her way. What the reader finds out early, that he is an undercover FBI agent, is something Tess doesn’t know until much later in the story.
Dallas is caught in his own nightmare when he fails to remove Tess from the danger he’s brought to her. He can tell her who he is and put his mission in jeopardy or he can continue to protect her to save numerous young women whose lives hang in the balance. The fact he’s basically given up his own life over the last two years to infiltrate this gang is what saves them both for as long as possible. But when all hell breaks loose, Dallas knows he can really only trust himself to keep Tess safe until the trial that will set them both free.
This is a solid story of danger and a real hero who lives what he believes. He’s lost a lot in life as officers of the law do at times, so he wants to make what he has left count. Tess is one strong lady, keeping her head during the most frightening time of her life. She is confused and torn, though, when it comes to Dallas. She knows he’s protecting her but how can she let that matter when the man is a criminal. Growing feelings for one another catch them off guard, but it’s also what helps keep them alive when they’re on the run in the second half of the book.
I look forward to reading more of Ms. Bach’s stories as I come across them in the TBR pile. This one was a pleasant surprise.
Wrong place, wrong time. When Tess Marsh runs out of gas on a dark deserted road she ends up being kidnapped by a ruthless band of drug smugglers, white slavers and murderers. There is one in the group that immediately "claims" her and ask her to trust him. Tess struggles through trusting Dallas after being threatened and witnessing a murder. She knows she probably shouldn't but she cant deny she is attracted Dallas and she's starving for an emotional connection after weeks of being kept in a cabin.
(spoilerish) Here is where the book changes. Many are promoting this book as a "biker" book. This is not a biker book. A FBI agent has been undercover for 2 years trying to catch a white slaver. When he comes across Tess broken down he has no choice but to force her to come along and claim her to make sure she isnt raped and killed by the psychotic Snake. He struggles with not telling the truth to Tess but is afraid she wouldn't be able to fool Snake and Bogen.
Once the FBI raid the compound and arrest Snake and Bogen things still dont improve for Tess and Dallas. Tess feels betrayed and Dallas realizes he loves her but with the trial coming up and Tess life still in danger will these two be able to over come how they met and deal with new threats to be able to see if they can have a future together?
Lone Rider is a good contemporary romance novel, I just felt like it fell a little flat in the last quarter of the book.
The book starts out with Tess Marsh stranded in the middle of nowhere. Of course, when Dallas rides up on his Harley to save the day, things turn bad very quick. Forced to protect Tess in the “biker way”, Dallas claims her and tries to earn her trust and at times I felt like her submission. He was using her fear against her and was pleased that she didn’t automatically stop fighting the situation. Since the author shares his POV, you know he honestly is concerned for her, so that makes it easier to accept. Things heat up quick and Tess witnesses a murder, is rescued during an FBI raid, and struggles to survive the murder trial…oh and did I mention that Dallas has a secret that changes this game of love!
Overall, I enjoyed the book, except for the few moments when I felt like I was watching slasher film and the stupid heroine was running upstairs instead of out the door. At one point I was shaking my Kindle while thinking “If you go with that biker chick you deserve to die!!! How could you trust her. UGH!”
A good debut novel, and I’ll be looking for more just because it did hold my interest and had that little bit of biker life that I’ve grown to enjoy reading about.
I wasn't expecting this to be so raw and gritty. I was looking for a sweet love story, but I got mixed up with the horrible inside scoop of the drug cartel and white slavery.
To be honest, I didn't really care for Tess. She was silly and naive for being 26. I mean, when you are faced with scary evil people who want to harm you and there are A LOT of them, do you try and escape or stay with the one person who has protected you time and time again?
I loved Dallas/Grey. I didn't read the blurb for this one, so I didn't know what it was about (obviously) but I knew he was a good guy. Tess knew it too, she even asked him "who are you?"
So the first part of the book I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. I knew something was coming, I just didn't know what. Then all hell breaks loose.
2nd half of the book was crazy. Bad guys were all over the place. Who do you trust? ACK!
The ending kind of just ended. Then, we get this short Epilogue and I still need answers.
I just felt like we got all this build up and then it ended. I was like wait, what? This book was too long in my opinion too.
One of my favorite books for the longest time. Nothing like a damsel in distress and a hot biker who comes to save the day.
Tess is kidnapped initially by Dallas and like most normal women would, fears being raped, assaulted etc. Dallas kidnaps her to keep her safe from members his gang.. Aww, but he can't tell her that. He's really undercover and trying to take down the cartel leader. Maybe it's Stockholm Syndrome but Dallas treats Tess as well as he can and they develop a twisted relationship. She becomes pregnant and things go haywire as they try to keep themselves and their baby alive.

Very good read. Read it in one night. It was hot, but the plot definitely drove the story. I have another book by Bach, Slow Hands. I'm looking forward to reading this one next.
3.25 stars. Well written but found I lost interest when Dallas became Grey. The whole MC vibe was lost and the rest was just Tess being pregnant and in danger from her initial hostage situation which could have all been avoided if she hadn’t been a total ditz. If she had only filled up her gas tank before zoning out while driving at night in the middle of bumfuck Montana! “The attendant at the last gas station warned her this was a desolate stretch of highway -- the reason she’d chosen it. She did her most creative thinking behind the wheel. In fact, the majority of her top-selling jewelry designs had been conceived driving at night.” 🙄 Kind of hard to feel to sorry for her.

It started so well, and it has some nice elements to it, but it's a bit predictable and goes from not great to really good and back down again. It was also too long. I'm so not a great fan the accidental pregnancy trope. So, some will love it, but I wasn't one of them.
Found this book in my TBR the other day when I went looking through my stash for MOUTH TO MOUTH by Erin McCarthy because it was mentioned on Twitter the other night when recommended reads came up. I knew I had it in the TBR so I went looking for it. Found LONE RIDER instead. The TBR, she's out of control. This ended up being my first read for Wendy's TBR Challenge of the year.
I vaguely remember buying this not long after it was released because it was getting a lot of buzz online on the loops. Not sure why it sat in the TBR this long, though.
I have this thing about lone women getting stranded on the side of the road in the middle of the night. I always wonder, "Do you not check before you go on a road trip to make sure you have enough gas?" I don't know why but this is like a huge per peeve of mine. Yes, I know it fiction (I do!) but there's that part in me that just can't stop from asking that question when I see it happen in books. It's just a huge "huh" moment for me.
Anyhoo, not long after Dallas saves Tess from the side of the road and takes her to his cabin hideout, we find out that Dallas Haynes is not what he appears to be. He's actually an undercover FBI in the biker gang to get the information he needs to be able to bring down the leader. We know that but Tess does not. She thinks he's what he looks like...a bad-ass biker who claimed her for his own to save her from one of the other bikers.
There were a few things that bugged me about this book.
1. That Tess, even though Dallas wasn't really a bad guy, slept with him without protection. Hello? Seriously? You don't know him from Adam but you have sex with him without protection? 2. That she didn't stop to connect the dots about Dallas before his "unveiling". Was she really that clueless?
I wouldn't say this is a book I'll ever reread again but it was an OK read for me. Nothing really stood out. Just found it to be a blah read. Filled with suspense and keeps you guessing until the end, LONE RIDER gets a 3 from me.
Tess marsh jewellery designer. Has run out of petrol in the middle of nowhere. Dallas Haynes rides by on his motorcycle and stops to help. Trying to hurry Tess up he's worried the other members of the biker gang will turn up before he can take Tess to a motel and safety. But Tess is not sure she trusts this guy, sure he's handsome, but is he dangerous. Too late the rest of the gang arrive. That's when Tess's troubles really begin. This biker gang are very dangerous. Drug taking and violent criminals. Dallas trying to protect Tess claims her for himself.
For the most part this is an enjoyable read. I thought that the mix of a thriller with a romance included should have made a good combination. But the author stopped short of making this a riveting read by making it all too easy for Tess to survive in the biker gangs camp. Yes there were threats to her by another member of the gang who wanted her. But she was always saved in the nick of time. The characters were well drawn, especially Dallas, he carried the story for me. The romance side of things was okay but then again it was more physical. I needed more convincing of a real connection between this couple. But overall it was okay.
3.5 stars. This is a reread for me. It was a well written book. Though Tess...Tess...Tess. Tess was a vapid. tstl, kept running to danger, weak heroine. She got on my nerves about a quarter way into the book. What could go wrong? Happened to Tess. Even if there wasn't anything to go wrong, Tess found a way for it to go wrong. I don't care for an overly tough heroine. But I don't like the whiny, tstl heroines either. Tess was in the later category. She actually wasn't too bad by the end of the book. Though she couldn't remember Dallas/Grey's real name no matter how many times she heard it. She had a hard time remembering she was pregnant. I was thinking that Grey actually "liked" her for her big boobs because I really couldn't figure out what else she brought to the table. I actually liked the ex wife better.
Even with Troubling Tess the book was a light enjoyable read. I nice hea.

Tess is stranded in the middle of nowhere when her car runs out of gas. Dallas is returning from a trip when he comes across her and offers her a ride into town, unfortunately before they can get on there way another biker showed up and Dallas if forced to claim Tess or giver her up to Snake. Right off you can tell that this is one of those darker MC's though I would really classify this one as a Gang instead of a club. They don't operate under the 'normal' standards for MC's and they seem to be more into the illegal business than most. A lot of twists and turns happen in this book, you think that once Tess is rescued everything would go smoothly. Instead she find's herself and on the run from certain members of the MC that want her dead. Over all a really good story, and I enjoyed all the twists that were thrown in to it. 4 stars.
Lone Rider - G Lauren Bach Inspired by Montana's big night sky, Tess Marsh is so busy designing jewelry in her head, she doesn't realize that her car is running out of gas. A dangerously sexy biker shows up and claims her as his own when the rest of the biker gang appears. Dallas Haynes takes Tess to the unsavory outlaws' hideout, and she soon falls in love with him and surrenders her virginity. Then the FBI arrives, and his true identity is revealed: he's undercover agent Grey Thomas. Whisked away into protective custody to await the murder trial of two gang members, Tess discovers that she is pregnant. After nearly killing her in the courtroom, the bad guys escape, leading to an action-packed adventure.
Ok, This was a little better story than "Rough Ride". It was a bit more believable. It had a more definite feel of a real biker club MESS! It was still lacking for me due to the connection between the H/h. I felt they we're just BOTH extremely naive in their feelings about each other. Also the ending felt a bit forced and rushed. The drug/extra-curricular crime activity was what put this story together. Worth reading but not a wow for me. Am I becoming KA jaded? Mmmnnn...
Was a pretty good story. Some reviews I had read on another website said the Heroine was to whiny but I thought that made her so much more realistic. Most people in my opinion wont be kicking their captor's butt's or be able to take on the entire gang, which is something that I hate with some heroine who can magically take on every bad thing that happens to them without any problems. The author portrayed the heroine as a real person with real fears and emotions.
I have read this book probably 50 times. Everytime I get into a slump I pick up this book. Dallas (Grey) is one of my favorite book boyfriends ever. I automatically get taken into Dallas and Tess' world and don't come out until the book is over.
The only reason that this book isn't getting a five star is the writing. It kind of bounces around the place. However, this book is one of my favorites and the reason that I truly got into reading romance.
Not at all what I expected after reading the description. I don't really know how to do a review of this without giving too much away. I found myself thinking, did she really just do that? There were a few times I wanted to jump through the pages and shake Dallas/Grey and Tess. I also didn't like the way it ended. The story was good and there were some steamy moments.
I haven't read a Harlequin-type love story for a while now, good to know I still enjoy them. I quite liked "Lone Rider". It was two stories all in one and it was never boring. Predictable sure, but never boring. The only thing I didn't like (hence the 4 stars) is the Epilogue, which to my opinion was just bad. I recommend to people who like a good Harlequin novel.
This book didn't do it for me. The heroine is kidnapped by a gangster (who's really an undercover FBI agent--not a spoiler). She's ridiculously weak and fragile. The hot agent is fine, but his motives aren't clear or believable. I would not recommend this one. Giving it 2 stars because it's not terrible and I did finish it.
3.5 stars. I did enjoy reading Lone Rider up until the very end of the book. I thought the ending was rushed and not very thought through. I would have given this story a full 4 or 4.5 stars if there was another few chapters in this book.
i loved the first bit, about the bikers and then his real identity was revealed and i wasnt expecting it ! it was very cheesy and cliche and it was different to what i read and so i think that is why i didnt enjoy it as much
