When a Gattan warrior loves a woman, nothing will stop him from claiming her - not breaking his society's long-standing traditions on a world not his own nor the fact that this woman's brother was once an enemy.
From the first moment Marljas caught sight of Sheala's curvaceous body and mischievous eyes, he wanted her. When she accidentally cut him, she sealed her fate. She’d blooded his neck, claiming him in true Gattan tradition. By all rights, she was his.
Raised on the hedonistic planet Drakan, Sheala learned a myriad of ways to please a lover. However, she decides to practice the sensual arts she had learned on the handsome Gattan visiting her family. The virile lion man with golden hair, tufted ears, and an Alalakan dragon tattoo his shoulder fascinated her. But it was the huge bulge between his legs that came alive every time she was near him that captured her attention. Oh, yes, Marljas would be her first true lover.
After Sheala is kidnapped and tortured by a family enemy, the indulged, protected young woman she’d been disappeared. Hoping Marljas will heal her physically and mentally, Sheala initiates the blood ritual that would bind her to him forever.
The fire he ignites in her soul does much, much more.
Lots of adventure, with a great ensemble cast. I enjoyed this romp through space.
This book starts just before the previous book ends, but from a different POV. Sheala, our heroine has been kidnapped and raped by the bad guy from #1 book, Brianna. She ends up married to Marjas, a Gatton who is blood-brother to Brianna. Sheala is already Brianna's SIL. And the relationships between most of the cast just gets more complicated the longer it goes.
There are several plots brewing only some of which are obvious, but Ban, Sheala's cousin, who is also the Monarch's secret assassin has spies everywhere and contacts aplenty.
Lots of fun, not the least are Brianna's earthisms.
I reread Brianna just prior to reading this book, just to catch up with everything that was going on, and I almost wish I hadn't. Then maybe I wouldn't have had the two issues I DID have with Sheala. Judy Mays does excellent world-building, and her characters are multi-faceted. I loved Brianna, and Sheala was an interesting read with lots going on. But it could have been better. It could have been deeper.
In Sheala, Sheala and Marljas just got LOST in the cast of characters. This was supposed to be THEIR book, THEIR story. I wanted JUST her POV and his POV. Everyone else should have taken a backseat, a supporting role. NO ONE ELSE should have had a POV in this book. Shaela's situation was terrible, and I wanted to see how Marljas' love & devotion helped her heal, and helped them come together as a couple and move towards their HEA. I wanted their thoughts, their emotions, their hopes and fears and dreams and yearnings. Their sorrow and regret. Their rage. The stage was cluttered with too many characters having a say, and depth suffered for it.
The other thing I noticed was entire CHUNKS of narrative were cut from the end of Brianna and pasted into the beginning of Sheala. That made me angry, b/c Judy mays is better than that. It felt like a cop-out. I wanted those self-same scene rewritten from Shaela's and Marljas' perspective, to really take hold of the inciting incident (a tragedy) and then allow them to start moving forward. Marljas kills one of the villains with his bare claws, and someone else finds the shredded body. I NEEDED that scene to be in Marljas' POV. I wanted his rage, his sorrow and outrage, his regret that he wasn't able to get to Sheala in time. It wouldn't have been an easy scene to write, but it would have been SO much more powerful.
I look forward to more books in this series. I would LOVE to see a book for Ban. That boy has a LOT going on in his life, lots of issues. An assassin with a playboy face, the black sheep of the family. HE could be really interesting to flesh out and give the spotlight to...
This started out pretty good, but I began losing interest midway through the book. There were a number of interesting ideas and events, but somehow they weren’t put together in a way that kept my interest or made me care enough about them. The characters are human with some animal DNA mixed in. They live on different planets. Marljas has claws, a tail and a face with lion features. Sheala is more human looking but has a tail. Sheala lives on the planet Drakan where sexual promiscuity and public nudity is the norm. Marljas is from the planet Gattan, where women wear clothes that cover them and are not promiscuous. Gattan visits Drakan for trade negotiations, meets and falls in love with Sheala.
CAUTION SPOILERS: Sheala loses her virginity to Gattan. She is then kidnapped by Bakom where she is beaten and raped. Gattan rescues her and marries her. While she is going through the healing process from the rape she is afraid to have sex with Gattan. Meanwhile, Kadis wants to marry Gattan and is causing trouble. A subplot involves Sosha who had been kidnapped and held by Bakom for a year. During that year, she was tortured, raped and drugged to addiction. I wanted to see justice done to the person who arranged for the kidnapping of Sosha and the kidnapper himself. This was not resolved at the end of the book. Another subplot involves threats against the Gattan Queen.

I bought this because of the Judy Mays kerfuffle a while ago (Google it) to support Judy.
I liked the characters. I thought the political plot was pretty interesting. The sex was decent.
The writing was average. The POV shifts mid scene were somewhat distracting. There's the dreaded use of the Mirror Cliche. Twice. And the main character gets raped, which becomes The Thing that keeps the hero and heroine apart for a portion of the book. The female villains were a bit 2-dimensional--either insanely power hungry and not smart... or vapid and not smart.
I think I probably would have given in four stars if the writing had been a bit tighter and the rape of the MC had been excluded. There were other ways to go about driving the hero and heroine apart for a bit. And they still could have saved the other woman (who was being held as a sexual slave by the male villain.)
All said and done, I *liked* and cared about the characters. Especially Ban. Heck, I would love a book with just him. Wouldn't even need to be an erotic romance to catch my interest.

I went int with low expectations after reading other reviews. This book dragged on and on. I skimmed a LOT and it was still incredibly boring.
The story starts off about 3/4 through the Brianna book. It's before the Gattan's have arrived, Sheala is planning her Solstice party, the bad guy from Brianna hasn't been caught yet. Everything is from Sheala or Marljas perspective.
The first half of the book is all Sheal's trauma over being raped, then Marlja's trying to help her to get over it. The second half of the book was like bad Italian renaissance intrigue. Assassins, blood debts, intrigues etc....but it wasn't very good.
I kept hoping I'd see some inkling of THE TRIP to earth and all the aliens being exposed to Earth and human culture. Nope...doesn't look like that's in the next book either.
Ok, so I want to give this like 3.75 stars but don't think tht's available. I loved it, but there were things left up in the air. I so want to know how this continues!!! Love how the relationship evolves between the main characters after everything Sheala goes through. However, I would have liked to see her character developed some more. The overall story is great. The author has so much going on, weaving in and out other storylines that are extremely interesting. I want to continue reading about these characters because I feel there wasn't an ending! Please please continue...
I liked the first book "Brianna"Brianna better but I did like this couple. Part of the problem with this book is that the first quarter of the book is basically rehashing what we already read in "Brianna" only this time we're seeing things from Sheala & Marljas' side of things. The book I really want written in the Celetial Passions series is Ban's story. He is by far the best character in these books.
Really Fun Read that Does NOT Duplicate the First Book
This is the second book in the series. The story is from a different perspective, that of the main characters of this follow on story. This is the case for most follow on books. The book was a fun read that had all the elements needed for a good story. I wish the author would write more books about the characters and worlds that I read about in this series--so much potential. The author did a great job of covering a serious topic and created a truly enjoyable story.
I have to admit that I only read this book so that I could catch up on Brianna, Char and Ban. I really didn't care to know about the story of Sheala and Marljas. I hope the author decides to do the story of Ban. He is a character that I have come to love.
In a word, the covers of Judy Mays' books SUCK! I'm glad I read the first book, "Briana" (5 stars on the Goodreads meter for me) because it was fantastic. I really appreciate an author who can successfully mix erotic romance and fantasy/sci-fi.
DNF; I knew after the first two chapters that there was no way in hell I'd finish this book. Yes, I knew it was far out there erotica, but it was over the top too much.
Not as good and entertaining as Brianna´s story but that´s understandable, seeing the fisrt part of the book. However, I loved the Gattan, they are my favorite specie among the 6 worlds.
