"Адският свят" е последната книга от серията Twilight of the Empire на Саймън Грийн. Доста интересна като концепция със закачка какво би станало ако прекалим с научния напредък и не му сложил граници. От трите книги тази ми е най-малко любима, но пък оценявам високо идеята. 😎

Having now read all three of the "prequels" to the Deathstalker series, I have a number of thoughts. They can be read in any order, or as standalone books. Each introduces character types and concepts that would be explored in greater detail 2 years later, once Simon R. Green finished work on "Deathstalker"
The ship, "Darkwind" appears in all three, but in different ways. Captain Silence appears in different ways, almost as different characters. Simon Green seems to be experimenting with the characters before deciding on how he would use them, later. In "Mistworld", the ship is long dead and buried, subject to a massive salvage operation. So it would be chronologically much later in the whole series.
But, that doesn't matter much, just read and enjoy, while Simon R. Green experiments with the cast and scenery, getting them right for opening day. The backstory of the Rim Worlds, the dark beyond the edge of the galaxy, implants that interface with technology, augmented humans trained since early childhood to be tools of the Empire ruled by "The Iron Bitch", is all there. The concept of an "outlawing", (Off with their heads!!), remains the same. It is an expression of the casual cruelty that is the Empire. Where money and title rules, and everyone else is second-class, or lower. Being "outlawed" has no appeal to a higher court. The life of one, or an entire planet, is forfeit and never questioned. Alien species are either to be enslaved or destroyed... and the Empire's only fear is that they'll meet "others" who would be their equal in viciousness and technology.
In each of the prequel books, published in 1992 and 1994, we can see the author grow, increasing his skill at world-building and character development. By the third book, he is describing prolonged action sequences with economy, and giving us insight into character's motivations, and how they deal with their deepest inner fears.
Read these prequels, not so much as a setup for the characters in Deathstalker series, but for the broader concepts and worldbuilding, that will give you a greater understanding of what is to come.

Hellworld is the last of three prequel novels to Simon R Green’s Deathstalker series. Loosely tied to the previous two novels, the book centers on the adventures of a group of advance colonial scouts referred to as a “Hell Squad” on a planet designated Wolf IV. Each member of the Hell Squad are screw ups, misfits or criminals, and are considered expendable. Their purpose is to gather as much info on the terrain of the proposed colonial site while learning to live off the land so the proper colonists will have a head start upon arriving at their new home. Unfortunately, no one expected to find what looks like to be an abandoned alien city a few miles away or expected to find that the city itself had definite opinions about the Hell Squad—and the will to do something about it...

Good ending for the trilogy.
The twilight of the Empire trilogy ends with another triumph of the human race over alien tech. It's a good read.

Романът на практика е една от първите книги от обширната поредица-космическа опера DeathStalker. Имаме налице една Империя, която постоянно се разраства и непрекъснато колонизира нови и нови светове. Немалка част от тези светове са, меко казано - враждебни. Такъв е и Улф IV, на който попадат героите в романа. Въпросните колонизатори без изключение не са читави хора - в повечето случаи са провалили се имперски офицери или прочее личности, които вървят по острието на бръснача и са били принудени да избират: или отивате да колонизирате тази гадна планета, или смърт/затвор. Екшънът е в изобилие, уродите които се изправят срещу бойците са същества, които може да роди само МНОГО БОЛЕН МОЗЪК като този на мистър Грийн. Роман, написан на практика така, че читателят да изгуби и грам надежда нашите герои да успеят във своята мисия.
Ако трябва да съм честен, това можеше да бъде един недотам лош роман от среден калибър, с който да си запълниш скуката в свободното време. Начинът, по който обаче от издателство "Орфия" решават да реализират романа преди 17 години предизвика в мен повече негативи. Първо, тази книга на Грийн от поредицата Детсталкер е в малък формат, а другите две, които са излизали на български в стандартен. Второ, оригиналните издания на английски са първо "Светът на Мъглите", после "Светът на Призраците" и накрая "Адския Свят". Тук третата книга излиза преди първата. Трето, в книжното тяло от 87 до 103-а страница има една излишна кола. Защо е излишна ли? Защото се повтаря, ето защо!
Книгата на практика няма нито редактор, нито коректор - пълна е с граматически и правописни грешки, които на моменти ме изнервиха така, че ми идеше да я засиля нанякъде. От другите по-сериозни бъгове има един момент, в който трима от нашите тичат през поле от гейзери, когато една мадама си заклещи левия крак в някаква пукнатина. Две-три изречения по-късно дословно се каза, че всъщност е заклещен десният й крак! Друго - една мацка-килър пуши цигара, гаси фаса и си го прибира в джоба. Две-три изречения по-късно го гаси и прибира пак. За редактор и преводач са писани някои си съответно В. Петрова и С. Петрова - много ми помогнахте, няма що, не знам и кого да напсувам! Да, преводът също е пълен с издънки - Rimworld е преведено като светът Рим, aliens като чужденци и какво ли не още.
Може би в оригинал тази книга е много по-добра, но честно казано по-скоро не препоръчвам българският вариант.

Честно, разочарован съм! Без напрежение , предвидим и често повтаряем екшън , нелогични действия. Единствените плюсове са персонажите ,но за жалост има прекалено малко бекграунд , отгоре-отгоре по няколко реда история и догадки кой от къде е. Интересното е свързващото звено с предишната част ,а по точно Изследовател Кристъл, дали тази част е предистория или не обаче не се знае. Когато си изчерпан и са ти свършени добрите идеи - правиш книги като тази. Честно , по добре да не ги правиш!

This one was slow going, as well as very repetitive. I got pretty tired of almost every page having "Oh no, we are getting attacked by thousands of mutant aliens!" Of the three books I have read in this series, Mistworld was by far the best, and this one it seemed the author just ran out of steam.

Such terrible, terrible prose. Such a predictable story, especially after having read other Green recently. Plot points which seemed to exist simply to use a good line, or reference a particular quote. And yet -- I finished it. Why?

Exciting, brutal scifi horror novel by Simon R. Green. He creates Lovecraftian mystery and mercifully unfolds it, disturbing the reader, but never despairing him, thanks to his vivid and memorable characters.

A science Fiction book. The third of the 'Twilight of the Empire' trilogy which is a prelude to the 'Deathstalker' series.
This took me a while to get through because neither the story nor characters sucked me in. It was just 'ok'.

Another adventure set in the Ironstone Empire. Always a pleasure to read Green - he brings a sense of humour and pace to any story he writes. And Hellworld doesn't disappoint.
