This is an interesting contemporary account of an outsider's view of Nauvoo in 1842.

The story of the Greek Psalter, which Joseph Smith claimed to be Egyptian, even though Henry knew it to be in Greek is interesting.

Many of the issues that troubled members then, still trouble members now. When is the prophet speaking as a man and when is he speaking for God? How should a prophet behave? Is there a danger in idol worship of leaders?

The booklet is also interesting for what it doesn't mention. Caswell knows of the attempted murder of Lilburn Boggs probably by O P Rockwell, but as far as I can remember he doesn't mention the spiritual wife doctrine or practice. That's interesting.

Well worth a read and important to look beyond Caswell's own religious prejudice for insights into Nauvoo life and some of the challenges in particular of the English Converts.

I enjoyed some of the historical details, but this book could be summed up in one sentence: My religion is better than your religion.
