A wagon train of pioneers drives through Nothing Gulch en route to California. Its ill-tempered driver is sent away by the passengers, and Lucky Luke is asked to step in and replace him. He accepts, amused by this fun group. When the wagon train gets underway again, the trouble begins: A mystery vandal keeps trying to sabotage the expedition. But it takes a lot more than that to make Lucky Luke turn back!

About the author

The Belgian author Morris (full name Maurice de Bevere) is best known for his humorous cowboy character, Lucky Luke. Morris started his career in 1945 in Le Moustique, creating various covers and illustrations. By the end of the 1940s, Morris met his colleagues Jijé, Franquin and Will. These four artists would be called "The Gang of 4", because they all worked in Jijé's studio at that time. The first episode of Lucky Luke, 'Arizona 1880', was published in L'Almanach Spirou 1947, and was later continued in Spirou. In his early 'Lucky Luke' comics, Morris was greatly inspired by animated cartoons à la Disney.
In 1949, Jijé took Morris and Franquin to the US, where Morris met Jack Davis and Harvey Kurtzman, whom he helped with their plans for Mad Magazine. He also met René Goscinny in the US. In 1955, Morris returned to Europe and collaborated with René Goscinny on 'Lucky Luke'. Goscinny wrote the scenarios of over 35 stories, which led to the great success of the series.

De verhalen waarin Lucky Luke helpt een reis te volbrengen behoren tot de beste uit de reeks. 'De Karavaan' is misschien wel de grootste knaller van dit subgenre: het zit werkelijk boordevol groteske karakters, uitzinnige situaties en melige grappen. Rode draad is een geheimzinnige saboteur, wiens acties een beetje ondoorgrondelijk zijn, aangezien hij daarmee zelf ook gevaar loopt.

It's not often, these days, that a book has me laughing out loud. This one had me in stitches more than once. The character called Ugly Barrow was very amusing and deserves a specific mention. Loved his dialogue! The Wagon Train now ranks with Ma Dalton as one of my favourite Lucky Luke adventures.

Mi impresión de que Lucky Luke no era tan bueno cómo Asterix- surgida luego de mi tibia relectura de Mamá Dalton- se viene abajo estrepitosamente ante esta maravilla. Maravilla que comprueba la “Negro Viglietti teoría sobre Lucky Luke” que reza: “cuanto más real e histórico sea su punto de partida a parodiar, mejor será el resultado del libro”, teoría que acá -que se registra la conquista del oeste, el avance de los colonos y la aventura de lo desconocía- se cumple a pies juntillas. La caravana del título busca llegar a California y son decenas, por no decir centenares, los peligros en su camino. Sin embargo, y casi que por una casualidad, cuentan con la guía de Lucky Luke casi que desde el principio, quien los ayudará a sortear los peligros geográficos, los indios, el hambre, la sed y el problema cada vez más evidente de que hay un traidor entre los viajeros. De todo lo que funciona muy pero muy bien en este libro -chistes puntuales increíbles, los dibujos de Morris sacando fuego en cada cuadro (basta con ver el ataque de los indios y la respuesta de los colonos), lo variado del viaje- me quedo con un elenco inolvidable de secundarios -el líder de la caravana Boston, el malhablado Ugly Barrow, el peluquero francés, el inventor que destruye todo y, muy especialmente, el niño Phineas que es un peligro en dos patas por sí mismo- que son una prueba de amor, de toda la entrega que Goscinny y Morris podían brindar en cada libro.

Супер свеж комикс, прицелен към по-детската аудитория, но и пораснали деца, като моя милост, ще открият забавление с щипка сантиментален привкус. Историята е просто класическа. Добре познатият ни каубой, пушещ цигара от цигара и пиещ лимонада в смущаващи пикочния мехур количества, повежда керван към Калифорния. По пътя ще трябва да преодолее безброй препятствия - да отрие коварен саботьор, да преведе хората си живи през необятната пустиня и да надхитри кръвожадните сиукси...

Уви, вкусът от четенето ми се развали поради дефектни страници в родното издание (три на брой) и то баш на най-възловото място. Хубавото е, че в глобалното пространство в днешно време може да се намери почти всичко, та издирих и дочетох панелите онлайн.

Lucky Luke takes you inside another core tenet of the Old West, the wagon train, and it's a fun ride, seeing all the adventures, hardships, and troubles they would have to face, forever moving west, through hostile lands, temptations, their own foibles and weaknesses, internal sabotage, hostile environs and natives... and still keep up the spirit that drove them out here and kept them going.
Once again, Goscinny takes you deep inside another world. How does the man keep on doing it, over and over?

Το 1964 οι Μορίς και Γκοσινί κυκλοφορούν την περιπέτεια του Λούκυ Λουκ "Το καραβάνι". Κοινότυπη ιστορία χωρίς εκπλήξεις. Έχει κάποιες πινελιές χιούμορ αλλά υπάρχουν πολύ καλύτερες περιπέτειες του φτωχού και μόνου καοϋ-μπόι... Ο Λούκυ Λουκ αναλαμβάνει να οδηγήσει ένα καραβάνι στην Καλιφόρνια. Οι κίνδυνοι είναι αρκετοί, καθώς οι Ινδιάνοι και ένας προδότης τους απειλούν.

Duet Rene Goscinny i Morris w albumie Lucky Luke: Karawana stawia na sprawdzone przez siebie westernowe schematy. W scenariuszu pojawią się więc dzielni kowboje, niebezpieczni bandyci, Indianie i cała gama innych znanych fanowi serii elementów. Obok tego nie mogło oczywiście zabraknąć sporej dawki dobrego humoru. Podstawą większości żartów są niezwykli uczestnicy karawany na czele z profesorem, którego pomysły i wynalazki mało kiedy się sprawdzają. Opowiedziana tutaj historia (pod pewnymi względami epizodyczna – skupiająca się na poszczególnych bohaterach), może nie jest jakoś specjalnie wyszukana, na pewno jednak potrafi zapewnić fanowi serii sporą dawkę widowiskowej i dobrej komiksowej rozrywki.

Najmniejszych uwag nie można mieć do zastosowanej tu oprawy graficznej. Rysunki Morrisa są bowiem jak zawsze idealne i perfekcyjnie podsycają one westernowy klimat. Artysta lubi bawić się szczegółami i w poszczególnych kadrach można odkryć naprawdę kilka fajnych wizualnych smaczków.

Lucky Luke becomes the protector of a caravan that moves from East to West Coast and faces many dangers along the way. It's a good story but nothing spectacular.

The main threat comes from within, as there is a traitor inside the caravan. Later it would be discovered that the previous protector of the wagons (who wanted more money to go on with his job) was the culprit. Another threat comes from the Sioux but Lucky Luke manages to reconcile the two parties. The barber of the caravan gives presents to the Sioux his wigs which the Indians consider as scalps, in the most funny moment of the album.

The character of Ugly Barrow, who constantly swears, is a funny character, especially with the turnaround at the end, the other characters (for example the crazy inventor) not so much. The cover of the album is hilarious, too bad that the parrot doesn't appear in this adventure!

Again, based on the types of things that happened, some people get a wagon train together to go to California. On the plus side, they get Lucky Luke to lead them. On the negative side there's a young brat and a saboteur.

The story follows them as they encounter various problems including attack by Native Americans, crossing a river (no bridge), a mad scientist and a solution to the 'scalp' problem.

It's also interesting Lucky Luke just leaves at the end of stories, sort of like how the Lone Ranger ended his adventures.

More serious than usual.

Dalam perjalanannya, rombongan-rombongan semacam ini akan menghadapi berbagai bahaya, baik alam yang liar dan gersang maupun bandit-bandit dan suku-suku Indian yang tidak bersahabat. Morris berhasil menceritakan tentang perjalanan semacam itu dengan humor yang cerdas seperti biasanya.

Από τα τοπ κόμικς του Λούκυ Λουκ κατά την ταπεινή μου άποψη. Είναι από αυτά που ακόμα και τώρα σε κάνουν να γελάς δυνατά. Η ιστορία έχει να κάνει με ένα καραβάνι (όμπβιουσλι) πιονιέρων που ταξιδεύουν δυτικά, προς την Καλιφόρνια, με ό,τι αυτό συνεπάγεται στο δρόμο.

Δεν είναι από τις καλύτερες περιπέτειες του Λουκ και τα ρατσιστικά στερεότυπα της εποχής δεν βοηθούν και πολύ στο να εκτιμήσω περισσότερο την ιστορία, αλλά από την άλλη όταν είναι αστείο είναι αστείο.

Retour à une thématique ultra classique du western : la caravane.

Très très inspirés par le cinéma (on pense notamment au convoi des braves), cet histoire est riche en rebondissements de toutes nature et, au final, assez réussi.
