When Dylan Duke stumbles across an ex-employee of his on an escorting website, he books her time indefinitely in the hope that he can finally find out why she disappeared all those years ago. Little is he expecting to be pulled into Juliette’s life, which includes horrific past trauma, an ongoing murder investigation, and an uncertain future.
Determined to face the man who fired her after the death of her husband and son, Juliette agrees to date Dylan Duke. But when she sees him again, she’s shocked to realize that he’s not the monster she’d always imagined. Instead, he’s funny and kind and proves to be an incredible support system as she battles with her clinical OCD and depression. But how can she give her love to someone else when she can barely survive day to day? And how can she start over when she’s lying to everyone and withholding evidence from the police?
Sloane is a (self-proclaimed) novice film critic, a middling yogi, and a pro smut enthusiast. She loves writing damaged heroes and heroines and isn’t above exploring topics that make you uncomfortable—but always with a happy ever after. Sloane lives with her husband, two dogs, and sixty-three houseplants in California’s Central Valley. When she’s not writing, she can be found day drinking with her friends, crying to sad songs by no-name artists on YouTube, and Googling the disturbing factoids she hears on true crime shows.
'All good things come in threes, and Juliette's story is here stepping into the spotlight. Unlike her Shakespearean namesake, her story will end in anything but tragedy. By far my favourite story from the series!' - The British Bibliophile

2045: Clementine Lane: Juliette is the third novel in this series of four, stylishly-covered and gripping mystery thriller novels by one of my favourite author friends, Sloane Fletcher. Previously she wrote equally as thrilling, small-town romance whom some of you will already know them from under her other name, Tess Shepherd. Now though, she's stepped out of those shoes and into a whole new pair and she's hit the ground running. These first four new novels bearing four very attractive different pairs of eye-catching footwear, and she's showing us that she can strut her stuff through something even darker and more mysterious than ever before.
As with my other two reviews for the other books previously in this series--Catherine & Lyla--, I'm going to enlighten you, the lovely readers, on the triggers that will run through this book. As always, I see triggers as a personal invitation rather than a warning, but I'm fully aware that not everyone will see it the same so if you can imagine a trigger, this book and series has it. Please be aware of that but don't be put off by it when taking on this book. It and Sloane are SO worth wading through some might find to be uncomfortable with because the journey that has lead us so far and with the addition of Juliette, is almost complete.
If you missed those triggers in my previous review, they are in brief:
- Violence - Murder/death - Human Trafficking - Escorting - Dark pasts
Juliette's book continues along these triggers with their associating tropes and this is not meant to offend or to shock, but to raise awareness and tell a story. Where certain elements have real-world applications and consequences, Sloane pays usage to these triggers once more here with Juliette as the FMC, to highlight and elevate the story that is being told. Please read the note at the end of the book for any helpful information about these topics. I, personally, will always be glad that Sloane has decided to continue with these triggers--and others--into Juliette's book, because there will be readers out there with similar or replica circumstances whose experiences have been given the spotlight with great dignity and grace.
With that said, let me get down to the reason why we are all here today. Juliette. It's your turn, honey.
Juliette is the third of four books which all interweave within one another. It's best to read in release order of Catherine, Lyla, Juliette & Antoinette for the full effect and understanding of the complex, mysterious case that spans across all four books. If you read one out of order, you'll find out what is happening with the leading lady of that book before what has already happened. Or you'll find out something about the situation the girls find themselves in, out of sequence and potentially spoil things for yourself. Stick to the order and you'll be just fine. By now we will all be already familiar with Juliette and her story to some degree, but here is where her story can expand, grow and hold its own for us to find out the what's, why's of how things came to be for her and where they will be going.
It's all eyes on a brand new set of main characters who will add more mystery and thrill to a truly unforgettable series, Juliette and her man Dylan Duke.
Dylan Duke one day stumbles across an ex-employee of his on an escorting website. One that we readers of this series are very familiar with. There's no question in his mind about his motives when he not only books some time with her, but he books time with her INDEFINITELY. Why? By doing this, he hopes to find out the truth behind her disappearance all those years ago and why it happened. He knows what he's in for when he books the time out with her but what he isn't expecting, is to be pulled in to the chaos that is Juliette's life right now and all the mystery surround it with the girls. Past trauma is brought to the surface, right alongside the current event of an ongoing murder investigation, both paired with a very uncertain future for them both. Talk about 'more than he bargained for'. Still, this is not enough to make him turn and hightail it out of here.
Juliette is one determined woman. This has been demonstrated many times across Catherine and Lyla's stories from the moments where she has made an appearance, even if it's not been physically on the page but in the abstract. She's determined, now more than ever, to face the man who was responsible for the death of both her husband and her son. In order to do so, she agrees to date Dylan. In a surprising turn of events when she sets her eyes on him for the first time in many years, he's not the same monster that she always knew. Much to her shock, he's quite funny, kind and is perhaps her biggest supporter and support system both. Which is a much needed turn for the better as she continues to battle her two biggest demons, clinical OCD and depression. Despite all the good now feeding into her life via Dylan, other demons remain lurking in her mind. How can she learn to love someone else (other than her husband), when she's barely able to get through any day?
There also begs the question, how can she think about starting over when she's holding close to her heart, informational evidence which is being withheld from police? Secrets are only secrets for so long, before the truth comes out.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Juliette's story is perhaps my favourite from the entire series. It shares a middle spot with Lyla as Catherine and Antoinette are either side of them, but for me as a reader it stood out amongst the four of them. Each book does compliment the other, but there was just something in Juliette's story with Dylan that resonated with me as a reader more than the other three. By now we've read a lot and have been subject to dark themes, gore, violence, and even though her story does toe the line in that respect as well, its her overall storyline singularly that sealed the deal for me. I love misunderstood MMCs, and Dylan Duke certainly was that. Team him with a determined, no-nonsense woman like Juliette? That's a winning team right there.
This was a book that I really didn't want to finish, but ended up devouring in two days in August last year. That's right, August! I've said it in my other two reviews but if a book can capture and hold the interest of a reader MONTHS after it has been read--as an ARC or not--, then that's a winning author and their work. We read a lot per year, regardless of our own reading goals, but Sloane's work (even as Tess) has always stood out to me and I'm incredibly proud of my friend in where she has taken Juliette, and the whole series, and to have her work proudly on my bookcase for when I feel like a re-read or three.
For now I shall say to you all, adieu. To Sloane, I wish the happiest of release days for a book that more than deserves the recognition and reception that I hope it gets. I can't wait for everyone to love her and Dylan as much as I did.
See you all in the finale, and with Antoinette's review!
Tragedy is revisited with book three in the series, Juliette, 2045 Clementine Lane, by Sloane Fletcher. Grief is never easy, ending, or explainable, especially for Jules who was driving that fateful night her husband and young son were killed in a car accident. As she works hard to come to terms with her psychological state, the ladies of Clementine Lane are there to help with cocktails, fashion, movies, hugs, and lots of love and support. While waiting for answers to who murdered Lizzie, the girls are busy behind the scenes. Juliette has an appointment with her old boss – the boss who fired her for not coming in to work after the loss of her family – Dylan Duke. Powerful, sexy, hated. With one thought only, destroy him as he destroyed her, she can’t bring herself to do it. Falling into his bed instead of lashing out, desire and passion, and real sex take over as it has been far too long that Juliette felt anything until Dylan. Juliette is a conflicted woman. Because of grief, she won't allow herself a moment's peace. Going through the motions until she connects with the beautiful ladies on Clementine Lane and Dylan Duke opens her heart to all the possibilities that come with putting the pieces back together again, she works hard to deal with her personal demons, showing the strength of a true warrior. Page by page, Sloane Fletcher delivers an emotional Book Three, that includes a combination of tears – get the tissue ready – hot, wild, passionate sex, ride or die friendship, and of course the steamy LA glitz and glamor her readers have come to love.
Within the pages of this emotionally charged narrative, a world of profound sadness and darkness unfolds. The story delves into the intricacies of grief and the heavy weight of multiple deaths, casting a spotlight on the toll it takes on mental health. The author's deft handling of such a challenging subject is truly commendable.
Amidst the tragedies that befall the characters, a glimmer of hope emerges - the potential for serendipitous encounters with individuals who offer solace and understanding. The protagonist's emotional journey is a raw and moving portrayal of the complexities of the human psyche.
The narrative skillfully weaves themes of sorrow and hope, highlighting the transformative power of human connections. It sensitively depicts the aftermath of enduring numerous tragedies, shedding light on the lasting impact they can have on mental well-being.
As the story unfolds, readers are drawn into a world where healing is possible even amidst the darkest circumstances. It paints a vivid picture of the potential for shattered souls to find renewal through meaningful relationships and experiences.
In sum, this touching exploration of grief, mental health, and the journey towards healing resonates deeply. It serves as a poignant reminder that even in the face of overwhelming adversity, there's always room for light to permeate the darkness.
Where do I even start?! First, I just need to take a deep breath and let it out. Juliette’s story was a lot to take in but so worth it!!! Everyone needs a Dylan in their life. Someone so genuine, sympathetic, and loving without putting themselves first. The two of them together was so perfect. No matter how much Juliette would share with Dylan he never once pushed back just kept being that “safe place” she NEEDED. This book just have tiggers but we all personally or know someone who’s dealt with mental health and this has helped me so much with a loved one who lives with thoughts just like Juliette. I just want to give her a big hug!
The most heartbreaking story of the series is here!
Juliette is moving through grief by putting one foot in front of the other. She didn’t expect to find herself as an escort but the kindness that her neighbor extended to her found her living in the casita at 2045 Clementine Lane.
Dylan Duke found an ex-employee on the escorting site and couldn’t help but book time with her. He didn’t know why she just disappeared.
While Juliette doesn’t feel ready to move on with Dylan she can’t help also be drawn to him. Dylan was a gem. He was understanding, and sweet and their origin story was a moment he can’t forget.
While there is still the backstory of Lizzie’s death it focuses more on Juliette’s journey and their relationship and I loved it. While Juliette had to pull herself out of the unimaginable she showed such great strength.
Don’t sleep on this series, each book is better than the next, unravels the overall mystery and brings into the web of the ladies of 2045 Clementine Lane!
