Who would ever believe that three cows absconding from a farm in country New South Wales could bring a father and son closer together, reunite two long-lost lovers, form a lasting friendship between completely different animal species, receive aid from a mysterious swami, and have a song dedicated to them by an internationally famous country music singer?

Who could foresee that those same three bovines could become enlightened, aware that humans actually consume cows, and in the end, capture the attention of the national media and the hearts of an entire nation as they attempt to escape to India, where cows are sacred and definitely not destined for the dinner table?

This and much more, is the occasionally hilarious, always uplifting, frequently thought-provoking, at times almost heartbreaking story of Daisy, as she, along with her friends Bunyip and Tulip set off on an amazing quest to step outside their limitations, becoming wiser and much more than others could ever expect them to be.

Book Title: "Daisy”

Review: I absolutely loved this book. “Daisy” reminded me of another great classic. It was “Watership Down” for cows. When Daisy and two of her friends, Bunyip and Tulip push down their fence in pursuit of the “greener grass on the other side” they meet an Alpaca that tells them some very distressing news. Soon it seems their entire world is tumbling down and Daisy makes a decision to find the land where cows are considered sacred and she and her friends will never have to worry about gracing the dinner table of humans ever again.

Thus begins the journey unlike any you have ever read. R.B. Clague writes in such a way that you almost forget the main characters are animals. I found myself completely transported and enjoyed every step of my journey with Daisy and her ever-growing volley of friends. I was taken back to my childhood when I stayed for an entire school year on my grandfather’s farm and remembered how I fell in love with the cows there and actually felt the sting of loss and betrayal when it came time for them to make their final journey. To me cows were and still are beautiful animals and even though I still enjoy a good steak from time to time, I can sympathize with Daisy and her friends and cheer them on the entire way.

A wonderful read, one so many can and will enjoy. A truly great book with many messages.

An absolutely brilliant book.

I had the honour and the pleasure of reading this before publication, and loved every page, every sentence and every new concept the author comes up with. R.B. Clague pushes the boundaries even for animal metaphors. In Daisy, the cows who feature as the main characters—especially Daisy herself—manage to achieve a higher level of self-awareness than any cows have in the history of the world, at least as far as humans know. They love, they laugh, they share adventures with other friends they meet along the way, and most of all they lift us up with their simple yet at the same time heartfelt and complex views of the world.
R.B. Clague allows Daisy and her friends to light up our imagination, to truly believe that the world is a beautiful and wondrous place, despite all the sorrow it contains. We follow the title character’s adventures with hope in our heart, and we are never let down by the storyline.
The archetypes and the story-arc presented herein are classic, yet fresh and entertaining. We find all the old favourites here; the hero, the wise mentor, the journey to enlightenment, and the shadow. We find a love story, a coming-of-age, a tale of responsibilities lived up to, a tale of friendship and sweet parting, the joy of reunion and the despair of failure.
And you, lucky reader; by the time you finish Daisy, you will know the joy and exuberance of a life well-lived, of friendship, bravery and loyalty, of imagination and what lies beyond the ordinary. You will experience loss, love and anger, and, finally, the joy of a story well-shared.
I thoroughly enjoyed travelling with Daisy and her friends, and I know you will too.
For you, though, the story has just begun.
Enjoy.

A little contrived and without many surprises or twists. Heartfelt though, and I probably would have enjoyed reading it when I was a little younger - I'd recommend it for a 12-15 year old audience.

Sometimes the best thing you can say about a book, is not just that you enjoyed reading it, but that it made you question, imagine and allow yourself to become immersed in the author's perspective. Daisy is such a book, in that it is not at all what you expected when you turned the first page. From a simple landscape to a worldwide and introspective journey, R.B Clague allows you to take this ride without pushing or pulling you along the way. He allows you to develop your curiosity organically. As you feel out the characters, you share their fear and hopes in direct correlation with their travels. You want to protect the protagonist Daisy, even though you know this journey is necessary, vital even. You want to scream out "danger!" much in the same way as when watching a horror film and you see the woman with the flashlight about to enter the dark abandoned basement. Daisy pulls you into her world without making you forget about your own. And the reward, the payoff is so vivid, that you realize that every step of every page along the way was written with purpose and conviction. The story is not 'aimed' at any particular group, nor do I think it was written to service any particular genre exclusively. It's a tale of metamorphosis, written with the type of clarity only a writer at the top of his game could provide. As the relationships in this story evolve you come to know the world through Daisy's eyes and even though the main character is bovine, you're left questioning the possibilities of the "human" will. This is the power of Daisy the cow. I highly recommend this book no matter what genre of writing you are a fan of. Great story.

I have read all of R.B. Clague’s books, but none equaled the pleasure I found in his book Daisy. How could one not fall in love with a cow who has become enlightened?

Follow Daisy and Bunyip, along with their friends, on their quest to help the cows reach India to develop their spiritual growth and study under the Bormpah, is a spiritual quest for all who traveled the road with them on this adventure. Be them human or animal.

Daisy, Tulip and Bunyip, break out of the life they have led, and their parents before them, to cross Australia on their way to India. An owl, two possums and a variety of other critters that live in Australia help them in their travels. Feral cats and the farmer who owns them chase Daisy and her friends across Australia. Will they reach India or be taken back to the farm and someday be eaten? This question can only be answered if one reads the book.

I can guarantee all who read this book, will laugh out loud, worry, get teary eyed, and have your heart strings pulled by this book. If you liked Babe you will love this book.

Highly Recommended.

"Daisy". By R.B.Clague.

What a heart warming story! The language was gentle and endearing, even when terrible things were about to happen. There is a sense of calmness that kids books don't have these days and I was impressed that Rob didn't deviate from that way of talking. It took me back to a time when swearing wasn't a normal part of our every day language, something that kids these days would just not understand. Even the poor old abandoned feral cat had a better path to take, despite his behaviour and shows us that with compassion, even the most damaged souls can be helped.I can see great potential for an animated movie coming from this and hopefully bring some awareness of the inhumane way, we as humans, treat the other creatures we share this planet with.Who are we to say they don't understand?Well done Rob, "Daisy" was a great pleasure to read and you are a very versatile author!

I will not give away any spoilers, in this review. **

Daisy is one of those rare books that makes you smile through every page. Cows.. I will never look at cows the same way! I liken this story to Huckleberry Fin - Cow style, although it covers some very grown up realities as well as the adventures of the cows, and various other animals.

R.B. Clague has always been an intriguing author, this work is rather different from his other offerings, and in being different, it presents a talent to change his style. R.B Clauge in my eyes, managed to reveal to us all the extent of his talent in doing so!

If you read anything this year, read Daisy! One of the best books written from an animals perspective I have ever read!

"Daisy" is an absolutely delightful story cleverly told with wit and insight. If you don't learn a few things from Daisy and her friends, go back and read the book again...and pay closer attention this time. The only thing missing were some illustrations. I'm just wondering how the author will top this one.

A deceptively simple story. I really admired the way the author gently taught us (rather than ramming dogma down our throats like, say, the Left Behind series). Daisy and her friends are well drawn characters, but the farmer and his family are also sympathetic. Not going to cause me to give up steak, but it was a really good read and very entertaining!

A delightful story about a cow called Daisy, who might easily become the most likeable cow in literature. I enjoyed every single page!!!

I do not recommend this book. Although intriguing at first I found the story juvenile and boring. The plot also became rediculous and too far fetched. Hate books that you force yourself to finish. Do not waste your time.
