Introducing tablet weaving

The brightly coloured braids and ropes produced by tablet weaving can be put to many uses and the number of designs that can be made is limitless, affording great scope to the imaginative weaver. Ties, belts, and trimmings for clothes and upholstery are natural products of the form of weaving; and narrow bands of fabric can be joined together to make unusual bags and rugs. Simple, step-by-step instructions for making many different basic braids are given, fully illustrated by numerous photographs and line drawings. Beginners will soon find themselves progressing to more elaborate results and will find clear and helpful information on designing their own patterns. Fringing, button-holing, and ropemaking are also described, as well as suggestions for various ways of finishing braids.

This was good, though short, book. At 64 pages it is only an introduction.

There were few color photos, which I think is a negative in a craft book. But given that the book was published in 1974 I was not surprised.

Bird includes lots of diagrams and sketches of how turning the cards creates the weaving, and why colors show on the surface when they do.
