Tales From The Glory Hole

Rate this book
A talking glory hole. A man who lives out his dream of becoming a horror movie hero. A loser who makes pretzels out of human intestines. A little boy who finds a monster in his closet and is given a very serious ultimatum. A high school basketball star who was stitched together from the spare parts of dead babies, but harbors a secret much less acceptable to his classmates: he's gay. These are just a few of the things you'll find here in the first collection of shorter works from Jeff O'Brien, author of Bigboobenstein and The Halloween Orgy Massacre.

I'm all about honesty and it was either the cover, the title, or the fact that I saw this for free that didn't make me stop what I was doing and take notice of this Jeff O'Brien fella before now.
The writing was strong and the stories flowed. I gobbled this read up in just a few hours.
These stories are moderately bizarre. Some had twists and others were straightforward. There's sure to be something for everyone. I liked them all.
A quick, fun read.

These are just a few of them:

4 Stars- The Girl with the Perfect Hair - It doesn't get this shiny own it's own. Balls are required.

4 Stars- The Nightlight - It keeps the monsters away.

4 Stars- The Best Blowjob Ever - There is no glory in this hole.

5 Stars- Little Timmy's Closet- There's no monster in Timmy's closet now, but he was there.

This book has been deemed a worthy read. May I suggest you check it out and then share it with your friends. A good deed does not go unnoticed.

WARNING: Tales From The Glory Hole illustrates further why sticking your dick in a hole can be a dangerous endeavor.

Please keep hair tied back and all dicks in the up right position while reading this work of fiction...

This is a collection of short stories by the one and only Mr. Jeff O'Brien. Each story is quite short except for the last, FRANKENSTEIN FAIRY which I have reviewed here on goodreads. A lot of them are hokey but in a good way. They read very much like if a Goosebump episode mated with a Tales From the Crypt episode and there's nothin wrong with that.

THE GIRL WITH THE PERFECT HAIR- Not my favorite in the book. The ending was entertaining enough, and again warns against anything be to perfect probably is too good to be true.

THE NIGHTLIGHT- I liked this one a lot! It was super cute and more like a more vulgar version of the movie Little Monsters with a fun disturbing twist again very much like a Tales From the Crypt episode. Even the dialoge is so tongue and cheek that it makes for an even more fun read.

THE BEST BLOWJOB EVER- I think I expected so much more from this story based on the title alone. I like the concepts involved separately but not together. I liked the idea of a guy running around trying to find all the glory holes he can cause he is most sexually gratified by them. Not so much sold on a guy doing this during a zombie apocalypse. I LOVE the idea of a glory hole being a sentient being and the dialogue between said hole and the main character was really good, but the ending reveal really just kind of ruined the story for me.

HORROR MOVIE HERO- LOVE this story! The story is narrated by the main character (as most of them are in this collection which I like) and he goes on to tell you about how he became a hero rescuing women from a house where he encounters evil doers such as evil clowns, Candyman, and "the king of all horror movie killers" Michael Myers! After slaying the enemy and rescuing as many of the three women as can, we get to our O'Brien twist and I really enjoyed it.

NIGHTMARE CLOWNS- I didn't really like the beginning of this story. A man is traumatized after being sodomized and raped by a clown in the house of mirrors. He is haunted by these images as an older man and these images manifest into his own demons that lead him to one final destructive confrontation. I liked the ending it was much darker and disturbing than the rest of the stories.

MOM's ADVICE- HA! Listen to your mother even if the advice is coming from a woman whose source of news is The Weekly World News. After giving up the party life to start his own life, our main character is devastated when all that he had worked for and provided is taken away when his wife leaves him and he reverts back to his old ways. Sometimes it's a lot harder to come back from a destructive lifestyle a second time. The ending was comical and I really liked it.

THE VENGEANCE DEMON- Cheating, lies, and revenge are the tri-fecta of bullshit our main character goes through. But getting one's revenge always comes with a price.

LITTLE ERWIN- Another darker tale from O'Brien. It's rather sad and super melancholy but I like O'Brien's darker side. It always has such a monotone sadness to it.

PAY DIRT- Didn't really pay attention too much to this one. Did remind me a lot of an Are You Afraid of the Dark episode though so it was kinda nostalgic there. A couple kids go out in search of the bodies of a serial killer that is still at large and what they discover is more than they bargained for.

INTESTINE PRETZELS- An adorable tale of boy meets girl with a literal twist ;)

THE FISH GOD- This had a very light Lovecraftian feel to it which was fun. A man undergoes a change on his fishing trip that leads him to a new belief and god.

LITTLE TAMMY'S CLOSET- ALWAYS check thoroughly for monsters.

Wicked fun

this is an eclectic collection of short fiction plus the novella the Frankenstein Fairy. this is a fun, gory, Jeff O'Brien book. Jeff cycles through a number of different gears in the shorts making it a fun and varied read. there's even a Lovecraftian tale with a touch of Godzilla. my pick of the litter is Little Edwin, where Jeff shows his darker side. the addition of the novella adds to the book. The Frankenstein Fairy starts off with some nods to classics like teen wolf, the breakfast club, clockwork orange, but from there it veers off in a quite original manner. this is a gory morality tale that would make a great troma flick.

This is my second jaunt into the weird world of writer Jeff O'Brien. Overall, I am left once again feeling like I just finished watching a cheesy 80s B-movie. Fortunatly, I believe that is exactly what O'Brien was aiming for. Mission Accomplished!
This is actually a collection of short stories anchored by a long short story or short novella at the end. Jeff O'Brien demonstates an O'Henry type approach to his short fiction, a surpising and effective tactic and distinctive switch from his longer work. The most noteable stories here for me were "Nightmare Clowns", "The Vengence Demon" and "Intestine Pretzles".
The anchor story, Frankenstein Fairy, was a solid fable. The plot kept growing and taking unseen twists and turns. This felt like Teen Wolf meets The Breakfast Club meets 80s B-movie horror. I was all in... until the end. The end really felt forced here, like the author was trying to force a point he was trying to make where all the story prior really hadn't set up the conclusions. Add to that my own personal distaste for a story to shove a point of view down your throat instead of allowing the reader to draw their own conclusions about the arguments.

I have been critical (constructivly hopefully) of Jeff O'Brien in the past and I've found a need to be nitpicky again. Overall this guy has a great imagination and his ability to spon an entertaining yarn grows stronger with each effort. Ifyou likr the horror a bit campy, sprinkled with some gaffaw inducing humor then get into Jeff O'Brien and his brand of weird stories. He will be your guilty pleasure.
