Beth's Behavior

Rate this book
An outrageous free spirit meets her match in an introvert with a secret leather business

Raised as a free spirit, Beth Jenkins refuses to submit to the Ton’s rigid rules. She has fun where she wants, with whomever she wishes. By day, she excels at matching people’s needs with those who can provide them. That talent and her cousin, Lady Althea Egerton, are the only barriers standing between her and complete ostracization.

When her cousin requires an investor for her business, Beth gains them an entrée to a house party hosted by a wealthy earl, where she encounters Robert Orford. The intimate leather apparel and toys of pleasure he creates entice Beth as much as the man himself, and she is determined to pursue him.

As the stocky second son of an earl, Robert was bullied as a child and hates being in the public eye. Beth’s behavior is far too outrageous for his tastes. If only she didn’t have the curvy figure he most admires, perfect for testing his leather pieces.
But Beth refuses to be tamed, so if she can’t convince him to care less about society’s disapproval, they could be forced to walk away from the perfect partnership for leather and love.

”You are gorgeous. And mine to do with as I’d like.” When her gaze locked with his again, he continued, “Stop thinking. Just feel. You aren’t in control here, so relax and enjoy.”

Should I read in order?
It’s not totally necessary, but the prior characters do make appearances. This book happens concurrently with the prior book (Althea’s Awakening) and it’s really fun seeing the events happening in both books (especially the theater scene!)

Basic plot:
Beth is intrigued by Robert’s shy demeanor and very curious about his hobby in leather...

Give this a try if you want:
- Regency (didn’t see a year listed but I have the prior book, Althea’s Awakening, which happens the same time as this novel at 1817)
- bisexual (pansexual?) heroine
- reversed rake and the wallflower
- shy/self conscious hero
- bubbly/extroverted heroine
- artist/crafting hero – he draws designs for and makes leather bondage apparel
- light touch of unrequited longing – the hero saw the heroine a year ago and has been thinking of her since
- bearded hero
- overall it’s a lower angst read
- naughty house party (strip whist, blindman’s bluff)
- heroine pursues
- full figured heroine – she has a round figure with a full middle
- higher steam – 6 full scenes with detailed bondage gear and leather toys/apparel, edging, aspects of power/control/punishment, play with ginger oil, light praise kink

First line:
Beth Jenkins extended her legs and arms in a languid, satisfied stretch.

My thoughts:
I was so excited to read Beth’s story! She’s been a bubbly and fun personality through this series and I couldn’t wait to see her romance match.

This was a really fun take on the rake and wallflower pairing. Beth is extroverted, social, and up for anything – especially naughty games at house parties. She’s never been one to shy away from the limelight, exhibitionism and voyeurism included. Robert is quite the opposite. Shy, withdrawn he definitely doesn’t want the spotlight on him. He has no problem proving his prowess behind closed doors, however.

The thing I loved about this one was the time and detail spent on the bondage scenes. I have read a few here and there with someone tied to the bed with a cravat but this was deliciously different. Robert works with leather to make all sorts of toys, apparel, and bondage apparatuses that were a delight to explore in this story. Sims added such great detail to be able to picture the different apparel used.

I ended up loving both characters. Beth is one of those heroines that I just adore and want to be friends with. She seems like she’s very easy to interact with and it calls to my introverted heart. Robert, I loved having a shy hero. He’s even self conscious about his body, which I don’t think I’ve ever had a hero like that. This was a rewarding read watching them both have to open up to their insecurities and become vulnerable with each other.

I can’t recall if this is the last in the School of Enlightenment series – but this series has been spectacularly fun. I think my favorite is still Althea’s Awakening but each book really features fun steam!

Overlooked and bullied in his youth, Robert ‘Ford’ Orford, the stocky second son of an earl, still struggled with society’s disapproval. He’d learned to navigate the shadows while secretly creating and providing the Ton of all things leather to enhance their bedroom experiences.
He’s had his eye on the curvaceous Miss Jenkins for a while. Outgoing and outrageous, she was out of his reach and a threat to his privacy. Too bad really, his creations would fit her marvellously… A taste of her for just one night couldn’t hurt, could it?

Graduate extraordinaire from the School of Enlightenment, Beth Jenkins was a free spirited libertine with a heart of gold. She didn’t care much for her reputation, but she did care about people and successfully used her network to connect the talented ones with those in need of their skills.
And that’s how Beth met Ford. The man and his toys fascinate her. He’s different. Her polar opposite in fact, but maybe she can help. His talents are addictive, but will he leave her like all the others? Or can he be her forever man?

📚 This is the perfect ending to this divine series !! I absolutely LOVED this book! This author’s style fits me like a glove, and putting her books down is nearly impossible.
The role reversal works so wonderfully in this story: he’s a grumpy wallflower, she’s a sunny rake and together they’re perfection! It’s fun, naughty, kinky, very very steamy and I couldn’t chose which MC I love more. Underneath it all lays a beautiful and touching tale of how everyone comes with baggage and the art of not losing oneself in it. Finding that common ground where a true partnership can bloom. All the characters of the previous books made appearances as well… almost like a goodbye and I’m sad to see this series end. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

I get it. Beth's sexual exploitations are the foundation of the book, but it was a lot to wade through to get to Beth and Robert's romance. No objections to their sex play, the toys or expanding Robert's business. Beth is good for his business in more ways than one. She would be great in advertising today. Connections, connections, connections.
For me, the second half saved the book. Explicit, descriptive sex with bondage.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

My favourite of the series

I knew I wanted to read Beth's story as soon as I met her in the series as a secondary character and this didn't disappoint. It is hot hot hot, more so than the previous ones I found and kinky.
I loved that she is confident and unashamed of her desires while the hero Robert 'Ford' is uneasy with his physique and uncomfortable in his own skin in general. It's a nice change from the usual dynamics where the man is the one reassuring the woman.
All in all, either a great conclusion to the School of Enlightenment series or my favourite tome so far!

A fabulous story filled with torturous anguish, compromises and pristine passion. I was so excited for Beth’s story. She is a woman of unlimited passions and unparalleled intellect. She is bold, vibrant and daring. This comes across beautifully in her story. What I did not expect, was the allure of quiet, timid
Robert. He did indeed steal the show. When we are introduced to his ‘behind closed doors’ personality, his mischievousness comes out in spades. He is the epitome of stern brunch daddy, taking control and revelling in making this wild child beg, promising delights beyond even her imagination. And oh boy, does he deliver! It was such a treat to watch Beth and Althea go through their relationship struggles simultaneously after reading Althea’s story and knowing her path. It brought a pleasant commiseration to the tale. Maggie Sims writes with witty dialogue, intense passion and a subtle shyness that captivates the page.

I absolutely loved this book. It captured my attention from the first page, and I enjoyed it so much that I read it in one day. Robert and Beth are polar opposites, but in the bedroom they’re smoking hot. Robert’s insecurity was incredibly well written, as was Beth’s vulnerability. Watching them come to a compromise was very satisfying. I can’t wait to read more by Maggie Sims!

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Maggie Sims does it again. I am in love with this series. Beth was a character that caught my attention on the previous books. I love her confidence and free spirit. It was a fresh take on seeing a woman confident in her sexuality and Robert, the gentleman, was insecure in his.

I was so excited when Maggie approached me if I was interested in reading Beth’s and Roberts story and my oh my! She really nailed it in the sweet spot for me!

When I read Althea’s story I was enchanted by Beth. She is such a breath of fresh air and I couldn’t wait to see her get her happy ending.
If you like your romances with just a little bit of spice or closed door, this is not the one for you.
This book really falls into the gap of contemporary erotic bdsm romance and historical romance. It’s something I love to read (especially with the house party setting) and Maggie just nailed it and it is SO HOT.

The level of research into bondage and BDSM in general is so refreshing to read. Robert always checks in with Beth, the way he makes sure restraints don’t cut off any bloodflow in critical points of the body like the wrists and ankles. When in one scene Beth is so enthralled by an idea she answers Robert’s questions literally, it leaves him confused and thinking she’s outright rejecting it. When he then says that it’s okay and that she doesn’t have to try it, Beth immediately speaks up that she was answering the questions, in stead of not consenting. Again, Robert asks for clarification, to make sure she consents.

I love how Robert is able to thrive in this part of his life. It’s the thing he is most confident about and he doesn’t hesitate when is fully focused on Beth. He has such a passion for his work and secretly designed everything with Beth’s body in mind.

My only slight issue was the constant emphasis on Robert’s body insecurities and Beth’s fear of rejection. It was heavily mentioned in every chapter and at some point I felt it was overdone. I didn’t need the constant mentioning of it to remind me of why Robert and Beth behaved the way they did. (Which was very understandable for both I might add!)

What I do loved about this, was the open communication they had about it. In stead of doubling down and keeping everything bottled up, and making it the classic third act breakup, both mc’s communicated their difficulties on their own time when they felt comfortable sharing these.
They both said hurtful things to each other which they immediately regretted and both tried to find out how to get through their issues on their own. Beth and Robert were honest and this proves once again that a romance doesn’t need to have the classic third act breakup through not communicating or withholding information. It was just 2 people trying to see how they could compromise and have a relationship.

This can be read as a stand-alone but for the full effect it would be nice to at least read Althea’s Awakening since that happens simultaneously and you already get snippets of Beth’s and Roberts story.

If you like Golden Angel’s historicals you really need to check out these. I am definitely going back and reading the first 2 in this series because I am enjoyed this tremendously! I am very curious about Penelope’s story and can’t wait to dig into her story.

Thanks to Booksprout for the ARC copy of this book. This is my freely given opinion.

This is book 4 of the School of Enlightenment story and features Beth Jenkins, the cousin/ward of Althea, and Robert Orford, good friends of Evan/Cheltie from book 3, and the events in this story are concurrent to the events in Althea's Awakening.

Beth and Robert are opposites in personality. She is a bouncy, cheerful, a social butterfly who embraced her sexuality and not afraid of indulging in her pleasures. Because of this, Althea sponsored her attendance to the School of Enlightenment. There she became friends with previous characters in the series, such as Penelope and Sophia, who are recurring characters in these books too. Beth has great insight and a great talent for bringing people together - rather like a good talent scout.

Robert appears to be her opposite in personality. He is awkward and uncomfortable in Society and blends into the background; he is an introvert to Beth's extrovert. Both however shared some sense of being being and outcast, and being bullied. Beth dealt with it by being exuberant and defiant of societal norms, and thumbing her nose at those who dare judge her. Robert isolates himself and avoids the notice of society. But they both do feel rejected, unseen, unappreciated, and unloved for who they are. Despite being opposites, Beth and Robert are drawn to each other. Robert sees her as a goddess and his feminine ideal, and appreciates her adventuresome spirit, insight, and intelligence. Beth is drawn to his strength and creativity, being aware of his hidden hobby and business of designing and creating leather erotic props. Together, they engage in a torrid affair, testing his designs. But despite their being attracted to each other, they do not trust each other, and each thinks the other is only interested in a shallow affair, and will lose interest. This lack of trust, communication, and their own personal fears and lack of confidence become nearly overwhelming barrier to their relationship and they are unable to be open and vulnerable to each other.

I initially did not like Beth in book 3 as she seemed too much - too cheerful, too outgoing, too much a social butterfly - I guess I am more on the end of Robert's spectrum in terms of personalities. But in this story, we see that behind the facade of being an extrovert sexually open and experimental social butterfly is a vulnerable woman afraid of being rejected if she tries to engage in a deeper level and not being loved. Which appears to be something she shares with Robert. So their finding each other is sweet, but sad also in how long it takes for them to be emotionally open to each other, despite being leaps and bounds ahead in the relationship in terms of sexual antics.

On saying that, this is definitely a highly erotic read too because despite their emotional barriers and fear of being rejected, they are very open with each other in terms of sexual games and the use of Roberts leather goods. That creates and interesting dichotomy. But expect graphic sex - lots of it. There is a slow build to emotional trust and openness... but not a long trip to the first or many wet, loud, messy orgasms.

Sexy fun, with a lot of emotional vulnerability and fear of being broken hearted.

Wow! This book is amazing! If you enjoy reading very steamy books with a great storyline, I would recommend reading this book.
The series is centred around the School of Enlightenment. A highly secretive girls school that teaches everything a woman need to know and more.
It follows Beth, who had very progressive parents who taught her she can do anything a man can do. She rejects the societal norms of the day and indulges in anything that gives her pleasure. She a voluptuous young woman who has curves she is very proud of.
She lives with her older cousin, Althea after the death of her parents.
Althea needs investment in her bakery business so Beth suggests they go to a secret party held by Evan, the Earl of Cheltenham where Althea could get a meeting with Evan to talk about investing in her business.
While Althea is busy, Beth finds herself in one of the upstairs rooms of the Evan’s residence. She meets Robert, a shy young man lacking in self confidence. He has had issues since childhood with self esteem but he also has an interest in making intimate leather goods for the party guests to purchase but he is lacking a model to see how his leather cuffs and other items feel when being used. Beth is only too happy to be his model and give him feedback on his leather goods.
When Beth and Robert aren’t trying out his wares, they are becoming emotionally closer but they both have issues that may push their burgeoning relationship to breaking point and both have to work on their personality flaws if they’re going to be together.
This book is very steamy but has an absorbing story to go with it. The side characters really enhance the story and are interesting to read about. I also love how Beth is so self confident in her body and that Robert is the one who has the issues with his body confidence.
Once I started this book I found it very difficult to put down, not just because of the steam level but the storyline kept me wanting to read more.
I wish I could give this more than 5⭐️

“Men never want a long-term relationship with me.”

This is the fourth and final book in the School of Enlightenment series, the fifth if you count Roslynn’s book, and I have to say, I am very sad to see it end. I have enjoyed every single one of the books and wish Maggie would continue on. These books are nothing like traditional regency romances and they are wonderful. The heroines are all fantastic and the heroes are everything I could hope for. I honestly can’t pick out my favorite, I love them all!

Here we finally have Beth’s story. Beth is very different from the other heroines in the series and we’ve seen a lot of her before. She’s so cheerful and fun, she’s like exactly who I would want for a bff! Robert is also very different from the other heroes. As a matter of fact, he’s unlike an regency hero I’ve ever encountered. He’s not titled, although he is wealthy, he’s very introverted and except for with sex he has no real self-confidence at all. He thinks he’s unattractive and doesn’t appeal to women outside the bedroom. I thought he and Beth were absolutely ideal for each other. They had amazing chemistry together and enjoyed being with each other. Beth really helped Robert be more outgoing and less stodgy and Robert helped calm Beth and kept he in line. They brought out the best in each other and saw the best in one another. It was truly lovely to see.

This book, Beth’s story, and book three, Althea’s take place concurrently and they both are after the other books in the series. You can easily read this first but it is filled with spoilers for the other books so if you plan to read them all, save this for last. One last warning, these books are adult books with lots of open door scenes and spankings and this specific book also includes bondage. Don’t get it if this is something you find offensive and then leave a bad review because of it. There are tons of regency romances out there that aren’t as spicy if this isn’t what you like.

SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

It is always the quiet ones. ALWAYS.

Beth Jenkins defines extroverted. The free-spirited socialite plays by her own rules, even if it goes against the Ton's standards. She does not shy away from attention, even at the risqué, after-hours parties she frequents.

Robert "Ford" Orford is quite the opposite. The quiet earl avoids the spotlight at all costs and would prefer to keep to his hobby of creating leather-made items for pleasure. When his creations catch Beth's attention, she is determined to entice the earl to use his handiwork on her. As much as Ford wants to, getting that much attention is just not his idea of a fun time.

A reverse rake and wallflower story? I was all about it. I love the dynamic between Beth and Ford. Maggie Sims delivered us with a lovable and outgoing FMC, and I really enjoyed the creativity in flipping the role of the rake with hidden insecurities. Ford is equally charismatic with his shy demeanor, but what did I say in the beginning? You have got to watch out for the quiet ones because they always bring the heat into the bedroom. Ford is no exception.

This one is probably my favorite of the series. I just loved the creativity, and I felt like Sims certainly turned it up on the heat. That theater scene? Yeah, I was fanning myself. This can be read as a standalone, but if you are into super-spicy historical romance, you will not regret reading this series.

The stories in The School of Enlightenment series feature characters on the fringes of the Ton, some in open defiance of the Ton and some even afraid of the Ton. Often the story centers on a second son who won’t inherit a title or property and how they are treated by not only the Ton but their own families. Beth and Robert are prime examples. Beth dislikes the arrogance of the Ton and is in open defiance of what they expect for proper behavior. Robert is afraid of the Ton for reasons of how they treat “spares” and of the bullying they have shown him. However, these two total opposites attract like no other magnet and the pull and sparks are so erotically charged as to burn the very pages they are written on. Robert designs, crafts and sells sensuous articles of leather and iron that are meant to tease and excite the wearer beyond self-control. Beth is enthralled with the pieces and eagerly experiences all that she can. When his designs and her desires come together the erotic experiences are beyond their anticipation and expectations. There is a good under plot that revolves around the very essence of the Ton, but the real story is the exceedingly erotic affair between Beth and Robert. Her exuberance and Robert’s desire for anonymity and privacy clash at every turn and threaten the very core of their relationship. Can one win over the other? Should one win over the other? Is there any chance for a win-win? The answers are there for all to see, except it seems for Beth and Robert. A rollicking Regency novel that is very much fun to read, and erotically enjoyable even more so. 4 Stars

This book centers around the heroine, Beth Jenkins, and the hero Robert Orford. Beth is a young woman who had a unique upbringing. She was sent to the "School of Enlightenment" when she was a young woman, where she learned how to be a free spirt, including sexually. She is no wilting wallflower and takes lovers of both persuasions. She is very social, confident and self aware.
Robert is the opposite. While in school he was bullied, and the aftereffects have molded his personality. He is very reserved, never wants to stand out in a crowd and has social anxiety. Though he is aloof, he hides a secret... he designs leather restraints and apparatuses.
Beth is intrigued and seeks Robert out. - The plot centers around the dynamics of their relationship. Robert who never feels comfortable in his own body and Beth who craves a deep love and not just a one-night stand.
I was pretty impressed with this plot and the depth of the characters. It's quite rare for a "spicy book" to be this developed. Many authors just write page after page of sex scenes and the plot /characters are never well developed. Maggie Sims did a wonderful job writing a spicy book that also had a meaningful plot and good characters. The "scenes" added to the story- they weren't the story.
If you enjoy less tame books-I suggest you pick this one up!

The final book in the School of Enlightenment series and Beth’s Behaviour makes sure that this series is going out on a high note with this grumpy/sunshine spicy romance although I think the author missed a word from the title, namely ‘bad”. Our heroine Beth is not your typical shy, virginal historical heroine. She lives her life with the gusto of a modern day woman intent on experiencing all that life has to offer and I mean all! Second son Robert Orford has made a secret if profitable career for himself creating leather sex toys for title members of the Ton while lusting after Beth Jenkins from afar until their attendance at a house party where she discovers his secret and is instantly intrigued. I loved the role reversal in this book with Robert playing the part of the wallflower while Beth….well she’s basically the female version of whatever a rake is with no regard for what people think of her behaviour but in Robert she’s finally met someone who can fully satisfy all her needs but Beth’s heartfelt efforts to help him lead to some strife as he fears the exposure of his secret. The chemistry between them is sizzling and steamy but past that, this is a story where love means compromising. With appearances from characters from the previous books this was the perfect ending to what has been an enjoyable series.

I love this series of books and Beth has always been one of my favourite characters I was therefore a bit nervous about this book and whether it could live up to the ideas in my head. I shouldn’t have doubted for a moment. This book showed Beth as everything you expected and wanted her to be; fearless, brave, passionate and strong. It also showed a softer and more vulnerable side to her that is beyond the public persona she has shown in past books.
Her interactions with other characters and with more anonymous members of society throughout the book show why she is a firm favourite as no matter what she acts with kindness and compassion even if that isn’t what is deserved.
I really liked the fact that in this book the conflict and doubt was on Robert’s side as it is unusual in books set in this era. I like that the author is not afraid to go beyond stereotypes into more human possibilities for her characters as it makes them more engaging.
I really didn’t want to finish this book and I took a bit of time after finishing it, before I wrote my review to make sure that I could do it justice.
I can’t recommend this series enough. It is historical romance with twists. The stories are steamy and sweet rolled together enough to shock Georgian Society. The books are also great fun to read.

Another absolutely fantastic book by this author. Well written, full of steam, love, action, fabulous storyline/plot, twists and turns. The best writing that continues to tell the story of the girls/woman from the School of Enlightenment and the men in their lives. Beth is a young woman who just enjoys what her body needs and wants from everyone. She lives with another character from another book in this series- Althea, together they explore what they book need . Beth just wants to help Robert with his business of leather treats and loves being his model. Robert has many issues with his bode and has compared himself to other men. Being treated not so good in school , he learns the second son will need to venture out for himself- hence the leather goods. Beth helps him and he helps her satisfy what she needs. Together they are able to help each other and fall in love. Has some hot steamy scenes between them. Enjoyed this fast paced book that keeps you reading till all hours of the day or night. Absolutely can not say enough about this author or the rest of the series. Would recommend to all.

Well, well, what a bondage bunny Beth turns out to be! Needing to borrow money for Athlea's apothecary venture, Beth and Athlea go to one of the Earl of Cheltenham's infamous parties with the intent to get Athlea a meeting with the Earl himself. Meanwhile Beth, who doesn't give a fig for her reputation, manages to capture Robert Orford's attention and discovers his passion for bondage fashion. Willing to be his private model Beth discovers what she has been missing in her previous sex life and wants Robert for keeps.

Unbeknownst to Beth Robert is body conscious and refuses to get naked with her. But bondage bunny she is and he needs her to be more than his model. Can she get her wish?

Once again Maggie Siim has created a saucy gem of a book. Full of lecherous Lords, forbidden fun and pleasure seeking adults.
This is a rip roaring romp through Regency excesses: a deliciously dirty delight in bondage discovery and male body image paranoia.
As usual a wonderful piece of historic escapism from a master of the genre!

It's always the quiet ones. - Beth is as outgoing and effusive as Robert is shy and retiring. True opposites in so many ways. But they share something really special and intimate - the joy of indulging their desire. The low candles might mask his bulk, built up from honest labor, but nothing can hide the way he sets Beth on fire with every touch, every glance, every smile. She yields to the pleasure of his touch even as she refuses to deny herself the public play she craves. He'll have to step outside his comfort zone to hold onto his wild woman, but the rewards for them both will be well worth it.

This was a wonderful story with great characters. I like that Beth is the fun one and Robert is the shy guy who lights her fire. An anomaly in Regency England to have a young lady be so free with her thoughts and person. And the line of business Robert is in is positively scandalous! Having the previous couples in the book adds to the enjoyment. A good read indeed.

This is an exciting story filled with hot scenes and emotional conflict. You could get caught up in the sexual aspect of this story, but that is just a means to carry the emotional journeys of two people desperate to be loved and accepted for who they are. Both Beth and Robert have suffered at the hands of the Ton. Although her outrageous behavior is what Society sees, she has a big heart and is quite skilled at connecting people with who and what they require…nurses for ailing mothers, discreet servants for wealthy earls, etc. As the second son of an earl, Robert has been bullied or disregarded for most of his youth. He craves his privacy and has purposely kept his circle of friends small. The attraction between the two of them is palpable, and although he is quiet and unassuming in public, Robert prefers to take charge in the bedroom, using restraints and other devices he has created. This story is well written, steamy, intricately told, and has an emotionally satisfying ending.

Reading about a BDSM love relationship is really not for me. This story could not hold my interest. There were a lot of sex. The rest of the story centered mostly around how to make equipment for sex. There was a bit too much leather for my taste, and not enough of a love story. Maybe a bit to modern characters for the time. I could not connect with the heroine. What I did like the most, was the description of the hero. In recent years it has become accepted to write about a plus size heroine. The hero on the other hand is almost always perfect with abs, 6 feet tall, and the most beautiful man the heroine has ever laid eyes upon. It was a delight to read about a hero, who was described as having a stocky body figure. I also liked that even though he had sexual preferences, he wasn’t a rake. I liked he had his insecurities about his body and, as result of that, was afraid to draw attention to himself. I understood where he came from. It annoyed me that the heroine took so long to understand his preference for anonymity and her constantly pressuring him to expand his business.

This Series Is Not To Be Missed!

Ooh! Sultry, Steamy, Erotic, this is one HOT read!

I love Beth’s character, how feisty she was, she knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to live her life in an age that judged women unfairly.

Robert was quiet, invented erotic toys and knew how to please a lady. He’d seen Beth a little while ago and thought she would never to look at him but he was quietly surprised when she was more than interested in him and his toys.

A wonderful, super hot storyline! Both had issues that needed to be overcome but at the base of it all, they couldn’t resist each other and slowly fell in love.

I love the way this author includes previous characters, it gives each storyline added character and interest to all the books within this amazing series.

If I could give more than 5* I would. A highly recommended read!.

Beth Jenkins, Althea’s free-spirited, confident cousin from Althea’s Awakening, returns in this novel, where she accompanies her cousin to the house party thrown by a business investor known for his provocative party games. There, Beth meets Robert, a conservative introvert who supplies the party with intimate leather toys for the guests’ entertainment. Despite mutual, heated chemistry in the bedroom, Robert and Beth couldn’t be more dissimilar outside of it—or are they? Sims’ fourth novel in The School of Enlightenment series mixes up traditional gender tropes, with Beth as the confident pursuer and Robert as the uncertain, body-insecure target of her affection. While still rich with appearances from prior books’ characters, Beth’s Behavior adds fresh spice that expands and deepens Sims’ world with a story about compromise and meeting your partner where they are without sacrificing your ideals.

I really liked Beth when I first met her in Sophia's Schooling. I did wonder though what kind of man would catch her attention when she's always been such a free spirit about who she sleeps with. And in comes Robert in Althea's Awakening but I didn't have any idea how spicy he would be.

Beth was raised as a free spirit and to never submit to the Ton's rigid rules. She has fun with whomever and whenever she wants. By day she helps those who seek assistance through her network of contacts. Her talent and cousin, Lady Althea are what stand between her and being ostracized.

While attending a party with her cousin she meets Robert Orford. He created intimate leather apparel and toys of pleasure that entice Beth as much as Robert himself.

As the second son of an earl, he was bullied in school and now prefers to stay out of the public eye. Beth is too outrageous for him but her curvy figure tempts him and is perfect for testing his leather pieces.

He fears Beth cannot be tamed and she can't seem to convince him to not worry about what the Ton may think. Will they be able to form the perfect partnership of leather and love?

Thank you so much to the author for so generously sharing an ARC to review.

Received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have loved the free-spirited Beth since she was first introduced in this series and I was so excited to read her story... and it did not disappoint. The surprise was Robert. Oh my goodness. I flipped between crushing on him to wanting to give him a hug throughout the whole story. He is not your traditional alpha MMC and it was so enjoyable to see a different male perspective. Great hero!

The chemistry between Robert and Beth was amazing and you could feel the emotion from their very first encounter. Of course they have issues... it wouldn't be a story if they didn't, but the way they came through the adversity felt real and made me even more attached to these characters. I love the world building in this series and hope we can look forward to other stories as well.

‘Beth’s Behavior’ by Maggie Sims is the 4th book in this series and it is inspired! Beth has been seen in the other books and she is such a great character. She’s a bundle of energy, sassy, curious, and caring. Robert lives in the background of society, bullied as a schoolboy, and never wants to be the center of attention. An unlikely pairing but they are attracted to each other sexually.

Maggie tells their story with patience, empathy, and an emphasis on their fears of acceptance. Robert’s leather creations and attention to a woman’s body turns Beth into a one man woman. He’s fiendishly clever with his hands and mouth. Their relationship benefits from their friend’s advice and communication with each other. This series is such a joy to read and Robert and Beth deserve their HEA!.

Maggie Sim’s books are always entertaining and steamy and this is no exception. The heroine is a veritable breath of fresh air in a world of stifling rules and infuriating double standards for men and women. She’s free with her affections, she’s not shy about her desires, but is looking for something more, a deeper relationship. The hero on the contrary is very shy in public because he’s suffered shame and bullying when he was younger.
And of course this is a case of opposites attract, but it’s also a beautiful relationship between two very different people who talk to each other (hallelujah!) and find a compromise to be together. A very satisfying read!

Beth's Behavior is the 4th book in the School of Enlightenment series. It takes place at the same time as the previous book, Anthea's story, but can easily be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. I'd still recommend reading the books in order since there are quick a number of references to persons and the school itself. Beth and Robert seem to be complete opposites, yet delving deeper, they share a lot of admirable character traits and are well-matched. This is a spicy read with a kinky twist as well, well-written and highly entertaining, with a well-deserved HEA.

Oh this story was a fun time. It was regency setting, which I love, but had a whole lot of naughtiness to their behaviors which made it all the more enjoyable. I could have done without all the self loathing of Robert and Beth, but I think in the end it made their union stronger and gave satisfaction for the things they both had to compromise on. This was my first foray to this author, so I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series as I've met the characters, but now crave their backstories.
