Spy Pups Training School is the story of Spud and Star, the pups of super spy-dog Lara, who are undergoing their next stage of training to be spies with the FBI in New York. Unfortunately for them, they soon fall foul of crooked FBI agent Brad and his thief twin brother Chad, who want to steal a famous statue of Janus and set the pups up to take the blame.
This is a funny story, even though I'm definitely not the target audience. I do think it's the kind of thing that both boys and girls (possibly 8-11-ish) will enjoy, especially as there's lots of action and humour here. Brad and Chad made for very sinister villains of the piece and I was actually surprised by how violent they were in their efforts to defeat the spy pups, although I think that actually helped to ramp up the tension at the end.
A fun story with a decent message at the end and enough action to satisfy the younger reader. 3 stars.

Angus (9) enjoyed this more than Hamish (7). Angus found it quite funny and was able to take in all the details of the investigation, whereas Hamish was really more interested in the dogs themselves rather than the mission.
