I first read this book way back in 2005, and I loved it, because it was the first book I'd ever read that was witchy, pagany and magical. I lent it to a friend and never got it back.
Fast forward to now and I'm a paranormal romance author in my own right, I've read so many books I've lost track and I'm very picky about the content of the books I read. I stumbled back across this book and thought "what the hell, I'll give it a go."
The story was still pretty solid, but some of the shine had worn off a little for me. The magic and problems seem a little juvenile in comparison to some I've read now but overall I enjoyed it and it was a pleasant little trip down memory lane.
The characters are a bit hit and kiss, the mc, Cara, has a lot of annoying habits and I did want to give her a slap now and then, but it was still a cute story.
The will they won't they of Cara and Sean's romance dragged on a little too much for me, with too many misunderstanding type problems, but I was still rooting for them.
There was a lot of typos, spelling mistakes and inconsistencies in this book which put me off a lot. I wonder if the author got the rights back and put it out in kindle herself without a proof reader, as kindle wasn't around when this book first came out.
All in all it was a cute little story that I'm glad I read again.
An entertaining read about Cara, a witch who wants to be "normal". Not only is she trying to sort out the relationship of her employers, Andie & Nick but she'd really like to get to grips with the gorgeous gardener who lives next-door. But when things don't go according to plan, she can't quite resist dipping into her spell book to try & make things better...
There were quite a few bits that made me smile - in particular this bit about the Buddhist girl who married, then divorced, a Jewish boy... "....how could it work when she was aiming for Nirvana & he thought their second album wasn't as good as their first..."
Well, it made me smile, along with the toilet that was either flushed with happiness or was depressed depending on what potions had been disposed down it. A good book for curling up with for a bit of romantic escapism, chick-lit meets "Charmed" sort of sums it up for me!
This one is actually really intriguing. It's about a nanny with magical powers... But - the family she joins is no Disney world light and bright... I have never yet read a book that so deftly captures the painful thoughts and self doubts of flawed people who wonder whether or not they are loved - or whether they really love that other person... And the magic makes all the nuts and bolts relationship stuff that much more surprising and impactful Definitely recommended.
Suprisingly for me - a really nice, light story, about everyday problems. Written with a lot of witt, heart warming and not boringly obvious. I really liked it, although I am not a great fan of romances.
I liked this book and it was a nice little easy read. However, for those expecting a tale of magical witchcraft you will not find much of that here. There are hints of witchcraft but nothing delving too deep into it.
This book was based around a family in turmoil with nanny Cara playing at a few magical spells now and then to try and help out, all the while fighting the fact she didn't like being a witch and wanting a 'normal' life. The story for me wasn't as satisfying as some books that I have read and it isn't a very deep book. But it was entertaining and did wrap up to a neat clear ending.
I have read this book more than once so it can't be too bad.
Not bad. Sort of nice to read a book with a wiccan touch without the evil undertones, wands etc. That being said the storyline seemed lacking without the afore mentioned. Have read it more than once as it is good to read when you don't want to think.
