3/5 More of the same episodic slapstick with cute girls. We start with rumor that Rina has a boyfriend. Naturally Rando/Yuna freaks out. Then we have Rando/Yuna dealing with two potential crushes one of which is a crazy kendo girl. She's cute.

Then we have a sports festival that lasts a couple chapters. A swimming chapter and a birthday gift chapter both have Rando/Yuna wearing strange outfits.

Then we end with Rando/Yuna being forced into a retreat with the karate team.

Rando/Yuna, Midori, Yuki, and Keiko on the cover of volume 3.

Book: Pretty Face, Vol. 3
Author: Yasuhiro Kano
Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars

This is probably the weakest volume in the series so far. It felt super episodic with no real story. Other than getting to see the day-to-day of the characters, there really was nothing here that added to the overall story.

I am going to try to keep my review as spoiler-free as possible, but since this is the third volume in a series, there may be spoilers for earlier volumes.

Rando Masashi's unusual new life continues after a tragic bus accident leaves him with a face identical to that of his longtime crush, Rina Kurimi. Thanks to the eccentric Dr Manabe's unexpected reconstruction, Rando is forced to keep living under a false identity while hiding the truth from everyone around him. As he struggles to maintain the charade, Rando faces even more awkward misunderstandings, outrageous situations, and close calls that threaten to reveal his secret. Balancing comedy, romance, and martial arts action, he must find a way to protect those he cares about without exposing who he really is.

This was probably the weakest volume in the series so far. It felt very episodic, and there really was not much of an overarching story. Most of the chapters focused on random situations and comedy instead of moving the plot forward. Other than getting to spend more time with the characters and seeing their day-to-day lives, there was not much that added to the overall story.
Even with that, I still had a good time reading it. The series continues to lean into classic high school manga tropes, and I have to admit they are just fun to read. The misunderstandings, awkward situations, over-the-top reactions, and school shenanigans are entertaining, especially as an adult. There is something nostalgic about them, and they remind me why these older comedy manga are so enjoyable.
The humour is still the strongest part of the series. Rando constantly finds himself in ridiculous situations because of his secret, and those moments kept me laughing throughout the volume. Even when the story is not making much progress, the characters are fun enough that I do not mind spending time with them.
Overall, this was not a bad volume. It just felt like a break from the main story rather than an important instalment. I am hoping the next volume gets the plot moving again, though I am still looking forward to seeing what kind of chaos Rando gets himself into next.

The story that intrigued me in volume 1 was finding the real Yuma. Instead, the author is revisiting all the high school tropes with a guy dressed like a girl. He also throws in plenty of fights. The humor is aimed at those who giggle when they hear the word "sex." Come on! Get back to the original story.

Three down and three to go.

He gets a full body suit that just looks weird to be able to go into the pool. They go train for their club and Rando is obviously gonna to have a triangle with the daughter of the owner.
