Beth Moore is widely known and respected as an engaging and effective speaker, Bible teacher, and best-selling author. Feathers from My Nest reveals a more contemplative and personal side of Beth, very much in the spirit of her Things Pondered.Feathers from My Nest is a collection of vignettes, as Beth reflects on items belonging to her daughters who have left the nest for college. As she ponders each item, rich in memories, Beth draws from its spiritual significance. This book not only tugs gently on the sentimental heartstrings of parents, it also reminds us all of the gift of grace children offer our lives every day.
Beth Moore has written many best–selling books and is a dynamic teacher and a prolific Bible–study author whose public speaking engagements take her across the United States to challenge tens of thousands. Beth is focused on teaching women all over the world and is known and respected wherever she goes. She is a dedicated wife and mother of two adult daughters and lives in Houston, Texas, where she leads Living Proof Ministries and teaches an adult Sunday school class. Beth is one of the best known women in the evangelical Christian market.
I really like Beth Moore and have read many of her books and been a part of many of the Bible Studies she has written. I really enjoy her humorous writing style and the way that she applies scripture to everyday situations. I appreciated how this book was a personal look into her family's life as she shares reflecting on her girls leaving for college and the items she finds. I think this book is best suited for mothers of teenagers or empty nesters.
I simply adored this book. It was nice to learn about Beth from the angle of what her personal life looks like. I am a newly wed with no children in the works, but I so enjoyed learning about prioritizing faith and family. I will buy this book for every baby shower I am invited to from here until eternity. I will probably strive to read it once a year once we do extend our family. Very uplifting and encouraging, also very real. Love.
From a seasoned mother of two daughters to me- a new mother of two daughters, I really enjoyed her reflections on motherhood. She is pretty funny and it was cool to have an inside look at her family and their life. I love how she always gives glory to God and credits the way He has changed their lives for the better. I got a lot of tips from her on raising children to enjoy God, and that really encourages me.
This is a great read for mothers no matter what stage her children are in. I loved, loved, loved this book and often give it as a gift to those that are going to be empty nesters. Beth Moore is a Christian writer and refers to much scripture throughout this book.
I wanted to read Beth Moore's new book, but the wait on that was 6 months, so I put it on hold and looked through my books to pick out something else. I found this book and thought I would give it a try. At first I was skeptical because from reading the description it is vignettes that Beth tells and learns from specifically because she is a mother. As her girls have grown up and left the nest, what feathers did they leave behind. I don't have a problem with this type of book, but as a non-mother I didn't want to read a parenting book. While all of the stories were because of her children, she has a way of making them applicable to all; the truth that she is learning is not just for mothers. This is different from her Bible Study books but it is full of wisdom and love.
This is a collection of family memories from Moore and I think one of the last books of hers I have on my Kindle. While I didn't get a lot out of this book, there were still moments that I found special and impactful. I got more out of the second half of the book.
I "read" this book on audible. Now, I'm not sure if I should count it on my list! Somehow, I found it more difficult to remember, not having actually seen the words. But, it was good to have this accompany me on a long car ride.
I've completed several Beth Moore bible studies including the DVDs. So, I was well familiar with her high energy approach and her southern twang. At times I think she should be referred to as a religious comedian! The book is very similar. As a celebration of her empty nest, Moore walks us through all phases of family life from babies to car pools to teenagers, with her characteristic humor. I especially appreciated the chapters on getting older and on marriage. Moore allows herself to be frustrated, concerned, even angry with life. But, her faith and positive outlook are evident throughout.
Reflecting remarks about children growing up and leaving home for college. Sometimes over dramatic, but well written. It is good to read how other mother's are feeling about this phase in life. I am not alone as I see my young son leave for college. In 2 days. To California. A long way from Texas. So this book is basically about me. I have now joined another new club, the "your baby has left for college club" along with "my mom is no longer living club". Life continues and there is no way to stop and live in just the good times. The dreadful days of loosing loved ones in one way or another, I personally see as bad. I know, I know, it is all good. Tell me that another day.
The first Beth Moore book I've read and I loved it! While I would consider this a parenting book it is most certainly NOT the typical "how to raise good kids by doing these steps" kind of book. Instead Beth Moore shares stories and lessons she learned raising her children. Some will make you laugh and some will make you cry. She does not claim to have all the answers or to have done anything perfectly. This book was thought provoking and has me looking at my own responsibility as a parent with new perspective.
Beth Moore fans will not be disappointed by this collection of stories from Beth's days of raising three children. Several of her recollections in this book she also shares in her Bible studies, but they're fun to hear again. With humor and grace, Beth delivers hope, guidance, and forgiveness to this tough job of motherhood. I see this as a recollection I will return to repeatedly for inspiration and Bible references.
This was my 1st Beth Moore book to read and I enjoyed it. It was a very personal book for her with stories of her family. Written from the view of an empty nest, this would be a great book for moms with younger children. It would almost work as a Bible study book or devotion book as each chapter pretty much stands alone.
This was an enjoyable read reminding me that my little girls won't always be under my roof. Reminds me to cherish the good and bad times with them. I like Beth Moore and this was a good look inside her life. Frustrated moms should read this book - we will look back and remember mostly the good stuff.
Since I'm lacking in reading my bible (always) I like to read a "christian" book about every 3-4 books. I really enjoyed this one, even though Beth Moore isn't at the same life stage as I am. It was still filled with anecdotes that gave me reassurance and confidence in my relationship at home and with God.
So good! True to Beth Moore form, she can have you crying and laughing out loud all in one story, and this book is packed with just those kinds. Beautiful, inspiring and so well written. I highly recommend to anyone who is in the midst of building a family or experiencing empty nest, as she was when she wrote it.
I got this for my 36th birthday from my cousin. I loved it! What a good read as I rush through my children's lives to see all of the feathers of memories that they will leave behind when they leave my nest. An easy read and great for any mom!
This is a great read for moms. I have been on and off reading this book for 6 months. It's nice to pick up and read a chapter and think about it. Whenever you are in between books, you can pick it up and read another chapter or two.
I have been taking the "Esther" book study and seen this book and could not pass it up. Mrs. Moore allows us to peak inside her life in a very close and enduring way. I am better for reading her book.
Stories and personal testimony of the Gospel and Jesus Christ from the life of the author. Some of the stories were funny, some were touching, all were food for thought. Not recommended for the non-religious.
I really like Beth Moore. In fact, I purchased this book for both my MIL and my mom for their birthdays coming up. I feel like it's a great reflection on motherhood for whatever part of the journey you are on.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is a mother. You will find it enjoyable if you are a mom whose children or leaving the nest, or if you are a new mom who is looking forward to watching your children grow up.
This is a sweet read, especially for mothers at any stage of the adventure of motherhood. It's written in a lighthearted way, but is backed with powerful scriptures and memories shared from Beth's family.
This is a great read for a mom of children any age. I love Beth Moore and enjoyed the sneak peek into her family. There was also many great lessons learned. .....and of course I love her touches of humor.
I would recommend this book for new parents!! Extremely I'll inspirational. Reminds parents of how important it is to have God and a church family to help you raise your family and survive this crazy world.
It was enjoyable sharing in Beth Moore's memories of her girl's growing years, evoking tears of laughter and tears of bittersweet aching even as I picked up the feathers from my own nest.
Beth does it again. Why do I ever think I can make it through one of her books without bawling my eyes out?? I especially loved the last chapter about her and Keith.
