The 2003 edition of this book was recalled in 2003 by the publisher and the Consumer Product Safety Commission as a safety hazard. "Hazard: The instructions in the book for making lye combine sodium hydroxide and water in an incorrect order. This could cause the mixture to bubble over, posing a burn hazard to consumers."

"Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. "

Informative and a good introduction to these crafts. Only criticism is that it's quite American in vocabulary, suppliers and weights so you may need to do some conversions and research!

I've read a few beginner Candle making books so far (and since I'm only interested in candles and not soap, that's the half I read). This one didn't cover a lot of new ground for me, and in fact mentioned some things differently from other books I've read, but didn't explain them fully. Still, if it was the only book I'd read so far, I'm sure it would have at least started me in the right direction.

I also noticed quite a few typos and poor grammar. Seems as though this was a bit rushed or could have been edited more.

It was a good book for beginners but I had to pursue other research. Use of sterin not adequately covered.
