How can Raven and Leander stop a war with a distant kingdom? First try to make nice. When that fails, bring along your fire-breathing dragon. Raven is still serving in her kingdom's special forces. Her latest mission is a special request to restore peace and return the prisoners of Malenspire. The island kingdom is far away and Raven has time to think about telling the king she was responsible for his son's death. Will the journey end in a dangerous battle? Or does the king have a surprise request for Raven that could change the course of her life? Raven will turn to her trusted dragon and ask Leander to stand by her side as she makes up her mind. Do what the king asks to end the wars or march on into battle.
Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
This was as good as the other books in this series; however the end of the book was like ending a chapter. It is a very unfair way to FORCE you to BUY the next book. After this series ends, I promise I will NEVER buy another book or series from these authors. It is very deceitful to end a story in the middle and call it a book by itself, just so you can charge for the rest of the story by saying its another book. Shame on you. What a rip off.
It brought the characters more to life than before, although I do feel that Martha can be a little bit tentative, when writing about relationships.
At the end of the first Warmage series, Raven and William are getting quite close, emotionally, but this new series started with them estranged for some very half-heartedly explained reason.
Then, even with her new friendship with the Dragon Vet, Dr Chui Welby, it's still more about them looking tentatively at each other, rather than really exploring what they might have developing between them.
I don't enjoy reading gratuitous sex scenes, but a 'little' more realism in their relationship would be nice! Lol
That said, Martha is still absolutely ace at writing kicka** female characters, so that makes up for a LOT! Lol
The blurb on this book basically describes the plot, so I won't bother copying that - although it's much more lively to read, than the description might show.
But I really enjoyed seeing Raven and Leander given much more authority, with her Airborne Legionaries Corp, and I'm hoping to see where that will take them - apart from the long sea journey to Malenspire, of course!
I only gave 4 stars for this book - something that I don't do very often with an LMBPN book - oeven though the writing, as usual, was excellent because, quite frankly, I was a little bit annoyed at its rather abrupt ending.
I don't mind at all that I'm buying books that are rather shorter in length, than I'm used to reading in most of my physical books - I'm all for supporting authors, as they have given me a lifetime of sheer happy memories, in the thousands of books that no I've read - but when the book ends as though it's still mid-scene, it's enough to disappoint me.
Admittedly, because I'm 2-3 years behind, in the order of the listed publications, with LMBPN, I was able to buy the complete box set of this series, so I'll be going straight on to Book Four: 'Red Raven', as soon as I finish this review, but my heart goes out to all those readers who had been forced to wait, in between publishing dates, before they could find out what was going to happen next!
Anyhoo, despite my bit of a moan, I really DID enjoy reading this book, and highly recommend the whole series to anyone who enjoys action adventure/fantasy-type stories!
So, with that, I'm going on to start reading Book Four and, when it's finished, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I thought of it!
BTW, do go on and read all the Authors' Notes at the end of each book, as they often give great insight into our Authors' writing processes - and it's been quite strange, to read books published in the COVID years, along with Martha and Michael, especially with Martha coping with chemo treatments for her - 5th, I believe - bout of Cancer.
Frankly, I don't know how she found the strength for everything she was doing, during that period, but she, amazingly, kept on writing, so that we avid readers had something to keep us occupied during that time.
I don't know about you but, to me Martha Carr is definitely what I call a Kicka** Hero! 👍
Sometimes in our lives we look forward to better times, especially during highly stressful social change, like a global pandemic. Turning a deadly virus into political a political battlefield seems like insanity, it is, making a virus appear more intelligent than the people becoming infected with it. Luckily we can escape the stupidity of our society with awesome stories to read from great authors. This story was told perfectly, especially when a deadly sickness attacks the wonderful Dragons, but the people here are smarter than those in our earthy lives. They worked together to help find a way out of their pandemic. Great reading during political stupidity here on our world.
ugh - first book in series was pretty good. And i did what i usually do with series - read the first one and then the samples of all the rest until the last one. But i bought this 3rd one because it sounded a lot better than it turned out to be. And the sample of last one was so repetitive and boring i didn't bother. I might've liked this writing in 5th grade, maybe even 8th, but as an adult i found it very slow going with extraordinary amounts of filler - ugh. Story line very interesting but whole thing could easily have been told in one or two books.
It amazes me the resilience and imagination that Carr shows thru her prolific writing. She and Anderle create book worlds where we can go on adventures of magic and where justice is served by kick@$$ characters. I highly recommend all of their books, and I hope to read the continuation of the many series they write. Enjoy!
What can I say but what a great story. So much anticipation, excitement, worry, and then once things start surprises. Maturing more than we thought we had but not ready to commit. Still strong enough to believe in oneself and that I can get things done with my squad and friends.
I just can't get enough of Carr and Anderle though I feel they generally suck at romantic relationships. The rest of their content tends to be great, so they generally garner a 4 or 5 star review from me. I like the pace, the humor, the adventures and the friendships. Keep 'em coming!
Raven & Leander make an excellent team but the addition of another mage on this adventure is an exciting addition! Can’t wait to read the next installment in Book 4! Martha, so happy to know you are on the road to recovery!!
The Author Notes on this one is the best part! Congratulations Martha! Raven and Leander's continued adventures include Bella this time, and brings the team back together for an offshore mission. Get 'em, Ladies!
Martha Carr is simply an amazing author. I've flown through 3 books in 2 1/2 days and now...I have to wait for the next one. I sure hope she is on the road to recovery. God Bless you Martha Carr
Raven, Leander and her crew stopped an invading army and are now waiting to see what's next, only to find out the fun has just begun. Another great installment in this series and once again leaves you wanting more.
This story was not as involved as past books. It feels like filling to get to the end, with action and little or no explanation for complete changes in character personalities. This story is like the soaps, always leave them hanging wondering what's next.
Definitely recommend starting at the beginning of this series. I started an entire series before this one so I have invested some time and emotion into the characters and it's very enjoyable to see the progress and stories they get themselves into
Great book as usual. But the really great news is in your authors notes. Congratulations on finishing your chemo treatments and best wishes for the future.
This book is extremely exciting! Dragons and magic and of course the same great characters including Raven I'll be who is totally awesome! It must read for sure!!!
