Jeremiah has always had a fascination to Christian hearts, because of the close similarity that exists between his life and that of Jesus Christ. There is an especial message in the ministry of Jeremiah for those who are compelled to stand alone.
Interesting look at the life of Jeremiah more so than the actual book of Jeremiah. It's very similar to Eugene Peterson's, Run with the Horses. Some excellent prose at parts. Here is the opening line:
If the days of David and Solomon may be compared to the spring and summer in the history of the kingdom of Israel, it was late autumn when our story opens.
There were a lot of new things I learned from this devotional commentary; a few of the chapters were absolutely standouts, others not so much. I enjoyed it, as I do most things FB Meyer wrote, but probably won't remember it years from now.
Meyer Mission #1 A good look at the prophet Jeremiah and the complex work he wrote. Brief, and it could have been longer, but a decent introduction. A longer work needs to be read for a more detailed study.
This was a fantastic read, very different from what I was expecting in the detail. It was almost like reading a description to a novel in places where he was setting out the scenes and characters. This really did help me picture and understand the circumstance of Jeremiah. The layout was easy to understand but I needed to re-read some of the chapters and paragraphs in places due to the depth of instruction and light shown on the piece of scripture he was detailing. It will inspire you to read Jeremiah, his passion for the word clearly comes across. This book has been a great help.
