Here I am hard at work on my next story.

Let me tell you a little about myself. Twenty years ago, I wrote my first book just to see if I could do it. The novel occupied space on my bookshelf, unread for nearly twenty years until, one day while in a cleaning frenzy, I considered disposing of the neatly stacked but now age-yellowed pages. As I began to read the long forgotten work, I was surprised to discover that the story was enjoyable! Editing and retyping the first book provided a new sense of accomplishment and additional tales followed. Completion of This is Fitting encouraged me to write four more romance novels. I Love My Life and Sunset Island were followed by Awaiting My Assignment and its sequel, Anything Your Heart Desires. One Day Longer Than Forever is now complete and in the hands of first readers before the first big edit.

Now retired, there is all the time in the world to write. I live on the east coast with my partner of twenty-eight years. Because we love a challenge, we provide a loving home for two spoiled cats instead of a dog! In addition to writing, any spare time is devoted to reading, mastering new computer programs, and socializing with friends. (from the author's website)

Amanda ends her 12 year relationship with Bernie when she discovers she has been unfaithful yet again. Leaving everything behind but a suitcase full of clothes and her laptop she seeks temporary shelter in her best friend Dana’s flat. Escaping to New York will give her the time and space to decide quite how to move on from relationship she realizes had ended several years before.

In New York she meets Dana’s lovely next-door neighbor Mallory. The two women quickly become friends and find they have many hobbies in common. Their attraction is obvious, but Mallory has suffered her own heartbreak and Amanda is barely free of Bernie.

Will their friendship develop into something more? Or are there pasts too big an obstacle for them to move beyond?

----------

This is a gentle romance following on from AJ Adaire’s first novel, Sunset island. It is completely stand-alone however, as the only real common thread is the friendship between Mallory and Ren and a brief visit with Ren and Lindy from the earlier book.

Here we find Amanda and Mallory building a friendship and carefully testing out the possibility for more, while dealing with the aftermath of Mallory’s loss and Bernie’s infidelity. As the friendship develops the two women assess their previous relationships and realize that they both had things missing.

AJ Adaire biogAt the same time translator Dana is of on assignment and building a relationship with Nic in romantic Rome. The parallel romances build and then merge, offering a subplot that fills out the characters and storyline. Ultimately, however, the real twist in the tale will take you by surprise, and is well written and well played.

A sweet tale, it doesn’t have the emotional intensity of Sunset Island, but as always with Ms Adaire’s books it is well written, well edited and charmingly put together. A most pleasant read.

Having read both Sunset Island and The Interim I looked forward to reading `Awaiting My Assignment', knowing the story would flow and be well written, I was not disappointed.

In this book we actually have the story of Ren's (from SI) friend Mallory and Amanda, who is living in the house of Mallory's next door neighbour Dana. They get on well, even go on a cruise together, then disaster happens, but I won't give the story away.

We also meet the neighbour Dana, working away in Italy and learn a bit about her love life, as well as learning about Amanda's ex Bernie, but look out for the twists.

All in all, the story lived up to expectations and AJ's story telling just keeps on improving. If you want a good easy to read romance that flows well with a couple of twists and turns then this is the book for you!

I was thoroughly pleased with this sequel. Mallory & Amanda are wonderful, complete characters. Bernie ended up being even more of a cad than I knew. Great twist that I didn't see coming. I love the closeness built up over time between Mallory ^ Amanda, and enjoyed the secondary couple of Dana & Nic, and lastly, I got a peek at Ren & Lindy from Sunset Island!

Great job, Aj! I'm moving on to the next one! Thank you for sharing your creation with us!

Too much telling and not enough showing in this second book of the "Friends" series. There are a couple of very clever plot twists and some well written scenes but they are not enough to lift this novel to the standard set by Sunset Island.

Mallory and Amanda likeable characters. I enjoyed the start of their relationship as friends doing things together. The other story Dana and Nick, that was enjoyable too in a different way. All in all an okay story.

The story continues

Although not as amazing as the first book was, this book was still enjoyable— even if its due to the familiar & beloved characters & good writing style rather than the actual plot & storyline developed.

The ending resolutions just seemed to wrap up more than a "lil bit" too nicely, conveniently & efficiently once a direction was decided on. After all the build up, the conclusions seemed insufficient for the fury of emotion, drama & energy of the experience.

Still, all in all I would easily recommend this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance. It is the second book in the Friends series, but is a stand alone novel. Characters from book one in the series make a brief appearance but not enough to confuse the reader if they haven't already read book one.
This book will wring emotions out of you, and provides a few surprises along the way. All the characters are well developed and the story progresses steadily.
An excellent weekend read.

Out of all the Friends books that were written this is my favorite.

This is the book that weaves all the other stories together. You get to catch up with Ren and Lindy. This book also tells the story of Mallory and Amanda but also what happens with Dana.

This can be read as a stand alone but to understand the story as a whole you need to read the first 2 books "Sunset Island" and "Interim." AJ has a way of telling a story and fillling in all the missing peaces. You get to find about past relationships and how they effected their partners and friends respectively.

This book can make you think, cry and laugh out loud all at the same time. I really like the way that each part of this trilogy have been written as a separate novel. I have known authors to write novellas and charge the full price for an ordinary book, thank you for doing that. The only part that is a Novella is "The Interim", which is the ideal size for filling in the gaps.

A book about loss, love and a lot of sight seeing.

Cant wait for the next assignment
